The main purpose of this paper is to point out a new approach in evaluating the preparedness of the population of a selected city for civil protection and its response to emergencies. Using new approaches, it evaluates a subjective questionnaire survey in combination with the objective state thanks to a mathematical approach and its subsequent verification on a specific example. The proposed approaches are then verified by experimental surveys in the selected city. The result is a highly adaptable tool that can be set up and adapted to different situations and different types of questionnaires to address the preparedness and safety of the population for emergencies. Thanks to this tool, it is possible to evaluate the subjective opinions of the population and thus gain insight into the assessment of the city’s preparedness for emergencies. Subsequently, we can set the prevention and preparedness of the population in the city on the basis of the obtained outputs, which potentially has a fundamental influence on the response after the occurrence of an emergency. Improving preparedness in the area of civil protection shall not only be reflected in the response and minimization of the consequences of the emergency, but also in the emotional security of the population.

The intangible value of emotions is often neglected in healthcare evaluations; however, it forms an important part of the hospital experience that needs to be taken into consideration to move toward person-centered care. This article conceptualizes how space and architecture may influence patient, family, and healthcare provider emotions. Building upon Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space, theories on emotional design and architecture, as well as research in environmental design, we suggest several ways to value emotions in hospital design and architecture. The first theme explores several hospital spaces (the waiting room, the hospital room, the treatment room) using Bachelard’s phenomenology in order to show how to facilitate emotional security by catering to the individual needs of the user. The second discusses the overall hospital room environment, notably the influence of light, color, and sound on the patient’s emotional experience. The third explores architectural theorist Giuliana Bruno’s theory of e(motion) to explore the hospital space as vissuto, a space of lived experiences, that invites us to rethink the design and architecture of hospital spaces to allow for patient participation. The article also gives suggestions of qualitative, person-centered methodologies that can be used to move forward this debate.

For a sample of 103 court cases with parental conflicts regarding custody and residence results on attachment diagnostics by psychological court experts are reported. Attachment diagnostics was performed using multiple methods with two observations per parent. It was coded whether there were indications for a similar level of emotional security with both parents or more emotional security with one parent than the other. In addition, indications for attachment disorganization, manipulation of the child by one or both parents and children’s views regarding residence were coded. About 55% of the children showed indications for more emotional security with one than the other parent. 38% of the children did not express any preference regarding their preference. If a preference was expressed and if there were indications for more emotional security with one than the other parent, children most often wanted to live with the parent to whom they showed comparably more indications for emotional security. Manipulation, especially manipulation by both parents was associated with indications for attachment disorganization.

The report theoretically clarifies the pedagogical grounds for the formation of self-esteem in the activities of choice, as a form of self-realization of the preschool child. Considering the sensitivity of the preschool period and the importance of self-esteem for personal affirmation, the possibilities of this form of selfexpression for the formation of six of the vital components of self-assessment are substantiated: physical safety, emotional security, identity, belonging, competence, mission (B. Youngs). The complex, integrative and dynamic nature of self-assessment is reason to look for opportunities to form a healthy self-assessment in the preschool child, encouraging its formation and manifestation in the educational process of kindergarten. In addition to the main forms of pedagogical interaction, the activities of their own choice, as a form of free and autonomous expression of children’s personal experience, provide opportunities for objectification of children’s self-assessment.
