The cut flowers are living organs, with intense metabolic activity, subjected to a rapid aging process compared to the undetached flowers from the mother plant. Improving the life of cut flowers is one of the most important factors for customer satisfaction. The effect of silver thiosulphate (STS) and commercial mixtures was studied in carnation cut flowers and kept in randomized vases according to experimental factors. Three commercial mixtures were used (Chrysal, Flower Food, Fleur̛ Rose) and for thiosulphate four levels (0 or control, 0.03, 0.06 and 0.9 mM). The interaction of the two factors studied was insignificant for most traits, including wilting percentage and vase lifespan, which may involve the application of both substances alone is sufficient to improve post-harvest quality and is not necessary to use simultaneously in the preservative solution. The results also showed that following the interaction of the two factors, treatment with 0.06 mM silver thiosulphate can be applied to improve the post-harvest quality of blossom cut flowers and commercial chemical mixtures can be successfully replaced.

In order to increase the vase life as well as quality of leaves of goldenrod (Solidago canadesis), the effect of 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate (8-HQS), silver thiosulphate (STS) and l-methylcyclopropene (l-MCP) were investigated. 8-HQS was used as a continuous treatment at 400 ppm with or without sucrose at 50 g/l. The treatment of STS was used by putting the flower bases at 0.4 mM for 6h with or without sucrose at 50 g/l. l -MCP was used at 0.5 g/m3 for 6h dry or in water. Except the treatment of l -MCP in water, the chemical treatments, which were used, led to the increase vase of life of leaves as well as to the inflorescence of cut solidago spikes compared to the control. The best treatment in this concern was 8-HQS at 400 ppm without sucrose, which resulted in longest vase life of leaves as well as inflorescences and lowest percent loss of fresh weight of initial.

Cut flowers of Dianthus caryophyllus L. cv. Asso were treated with 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate (8-HQS) at 200 and 400 ppm with or without sucrose at 50 g l-1, silver thiosulphate (STS) at 0.2 and 0.4 mM with or without sucrose at 50 g l-1,and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) at 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 g m-3 for 6 h to study the effect of these chemicals on post-harvest quality. 8-HQS treatments increased the vase life and the percentage loss of initial fresh weight compared to the control. In addition, the vase life was longer when sucrose was applied in combination with 8-HQS. The best treatment involved 400 ppm 8-HQS + 50 g l-1 sucrose. All the concentrations of STS prolonged the vase life and fresh mass compared to the control. The best treatment was STS at 0.4 mM with or without sucrose. All levels of 1-MCP prolonged the vase life and increased the fresh weight in comparison with the control. The best treatment in this respect was 1-MCP at 0.5 g m-3 for 6 h. The chlorophyll content (chl a and chl b) in the leaves was higher than the control in the best treatment of each chemical.

ABSTRACT
Heliconia ‘Sexy Pink’ has beautiful bright pink colour and big size of bractea. The quality of Heliconia ‘Sexy Pink’ as tropical cut flower can be maintained with appropriate post-harvest treatments. One of the post-harvest technology that can be applied is the use of disinfectant and 1- Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP). The objective of the study was to prolong the vase life of Heliconia ‘Sexy Pink’ using disinfectant and 1-MCP, and to determine the optimum concentration of disinfectant (active compound: sodium hyphoclorite-NaClO) and 1-MCP applied separately or in combination. This study used factorial randomized complete block design with two factors and ten replications. The first factor was concentration of disinfectant (NaClO) i.e 0% (A0), 0.5% (A1), 1.0% (A2) and 1.5% (A3). The second factor was 1-MCP i.e 0 ppm (B0), 0.003 ppm (B1), 0.004 ppm (B2) and 0.005 ppm (B3). The results showed that optimum 1-MCP concentration for maintaining the vase life of Heliconia 'Sexy Pink' cut flowers by 30% from total amount of bractea blackened variables was 0.005 ppm; This 1-MCP concentration kept the vase life for 6.2 days. Vase life of Heliconia 'Sexy Pink' cut flower with the combination treatment without disinfectant and 1-MCP concentration of 0-0.005 ppm based on hedonic test by panelists still preferably up to 8 days. Hedonic test criteria is recommended to indicate the vase life of Heliconia 'Sexy Pink' cut flower. The addition of the disinfectant is not advisable to maintain the vase life of Heliconia 'Sexy Pink' cut flower.
Key words: 1-methylcylopropen, Heliconia, NaClO, tropical cut flower, vase life

Setiap satuan percobaan terdiri atas 1 tangkai bunga, sehingga terdapat 160 tangkai bunga Heliconia "Sexy Pink".
Kata kunci: 1-methylcylopropene, bunga tropis, Heliconia, NaClO, vase life

Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora) is an ornamental plant that has high economic value, including flowers that are in great demand at domestic or abroad. As cut flowers, chrysanthemums are used for decoration and flower arrangements at weddings, and for opening new offices. The quality of cut flowers depends on the appearance and durability of freshness. Flowers with prime quality have a higher sale value compared to low-quality cut flowers. To maintain the quality of prime cut flowers still need to be implemented several treatments, especially when the flowers are ready to harvest to the consumers. The handling of post-harvest chrysanthemums is an important factor that is inseparable from the stages of cultivation and greatly influences the selling value and added value that will be obtained by farmers and traders. The use of pulsing and holding liquid during display will extend the chrysanthemum vase life. By implementing post-harvest chrysanthemums in accordance with handling procedures (SOP), chrysanthemums will be obtained that can meet quality standards and can provide added value for farmers and flower traders
