USE OF THE METHODS IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO YOUNG LEARNERS

This article covers the easiest ways to learn a foreign language for the children at an early age. It includes activities that may interest children and teach them to think in English. If we use these methods in teaching young people, if we can increase their interest in learning the language, in the future they would not only become masters of their profession, but also have the opportunity to expand their abilities even more. The purpose of this article is to increase the interest of many people in learning a language with the help of task- based learning approach and project-based learning approach.

This study targets unveiling junior pre-service English-as-a-foreign-language teachers’ ( N = 80) perceptions of the process they went through as preparing projects for young learners and their views about the effect of project-based learning on teaching English to young learners. The data gathered from a qualitative survey and semistructured interviews were analyzed using an inductive content analysis. The results indicated that while the participants encountered a number of difficulties in the preparation process, they believed the use of project-based learning could promote young learners’ English language learning, and preparing projects for young learners made them feel like a real teacher.

In Indonesia, English is a foreign language, hence not easy to teach English to young learner in Indonesia, thus, need something interesting to teach English to young learners, one of which uses instructional media. Instructional media as a tool needed to facilitate the teachers in presenting the material, but many English teachers in Indonesia find it difficult to use instructional media in the classroom. This study aims to (1) how the teacher applied the instructional media in the classroom. (2) to investigate problems faced by the teacher, and (3) elaborate the teacher's strategies in solving problems using the instructional media. This study was conducted a case study design, by using observation and interviews to collect data. In the investigation teachers do not have free access to use the media provided at school. Thus, they faced obstacles to provide proper media in classroom. Therefore this paper described certain strategies to solve teacher problems in using instructional media in the class. Keywords:        Teaching English, Instructional media, Young learners

This study aimed at investigating teachers’ perceptions about natural approach in teaching English for young learners and its implementation in public primary schools in Gianyar Regency, particularly on teachers’ perceptions on natural approach in teaching English for young learners, how the English teachers implement naturalistic values in teaching English as a foreign language in Gianyar regency, and teachers’ perceptions about naturalistic values for young learners related to the strategies in teaching English as a foreign language in classroom. The subjects of the study were 3 English teachers in 3 different public elementary schools in Gianyar Regency. The research design of the study was mixed methods. This study used three instruments: observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews. The observation sheet was used to find out how teachers implemented the naturalistic values in teaching English for young learners. The questionnaire was used to find out teachers’ perceptions on natural approach and the interview was used to find out how teachers’ perceptions related to their strategies in teaching English for young learners in their classrooms. This study showed that the relation between teachers’ perceptions and the implementation found that there were few results indicated inconsistency between both of them. The data were also supported by the result of interviews.

The advantages of teaching a foreign language from an early age has been demonstrated in the past years. However, only few schools in Italy offer bilingual programmes. Early bilingual childhood education represents a significant opportunity for the personal development of the child and for the quality of his/her language competence. This paper describes a model used to teach a foreign language to very young learners (aged 0-6) in schools and it presents and discusses some documents which have been devised in order to gather information about this model.

This research was surely aimed at investigating young learners’ behaviors toward the teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). This qualitative research used descriptive method. It was conducted in SD Islam Sultan Agung 4 Semarang. The population of this research was the students of grade 5 and students of grade 6 in the academic year of 2017/2018 with the total sample was 70 students, consisting of 32 students of Grade VA and 38 students of Grade VI. In this research, the researchers used convenience sampling to determine the sample of the research. The variables of this study were teaching English as a foreign language which is as independent variable and young learners’ behavior functions as dependent variable. The data collection techniques of this research were through 1) observation and 2) close-ended questionnaire. The results of the research then indicated that young learners showed positive behaviors toward the teaching English as a foreign language such as paid attention to the teacher’s explanation, wrote down and read the material, actively and bravely in asking questions to the teacher, and made the vocabularies list to be memorized.Keywords:  Teaching English as a Foreign Language; Behavior; Young Learners

Nowadays, English has become one of the subjects that must be mastered. Thus, English learning should be done from an early age. This research aimed to describe how Total Physical Response (TPR) method can improve English vocabulary achievement in 5-6 years old children. TPR is the language learning approach which stimulates the children in acquiring their mother language which implemented in teaching foreign languages. The samples of this research were 5-6 years students of TK (Kindergarten) An-Nisa, Rokan Hilir, Riau Province, Indonesia with the total samples 15 students. This research used qualitative research. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics, analyzing the scores of English vocabularies. The results showed that noun categories had the highest percentage in vocabulary acquisition (97.78 %), then followed by verbs (86.67 %) and adjectives (62.22 %). Meanwhile, the percentages of vocabularies that used by children were verbs (24.44 %), nouns (11.11 %), while the children were still not capable in using adjectives (0 %). The results of this research is expected to contribute to the development of  English learning for young learners.

Teaching language to old learners is different from teaching language to young learners. Young learners have certain characteristics which are different from old learners so those influence their acquiring a foreign language. Teaching foreign language is easy if we understand the rules well. The rules are understanding characteristics of our students, mastering some suitable methods, and choosing suitable material. Young learners have certain characteristic distinguishing to the older learners. Related to the certain characteristics, the teacher must understand to differentiate the method they use in teaching English as a foreign language to the young learners. To empower the teaching, the teacher must master the material well

A discussion of the impact of parental demand on the terms of employment of imported native-speaking and local non-native-speaking teachers in private language schools.As more and more parents realize the importance of learning the language at an early stage, the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to young learners has become a lucrative adventure for Taiwanese entrepreneurs. Taiwanese students and parents alike represent a stable and growing market, at least for now. The demand for both Native Speaking (NS) and Non-Native Speaking (NNS) teachers is also on the rise and can certainly be attributed to the flourishing EFL industry in Taiwan. However, there is a distinctively huge difference in the pay and reward policies and practices for the two kinds of teacher. This article touches on relatively sensitive issues concerning NS/NNS as EFL teachers and as members of staff.
