Nursing training is a blend of both theoretical and practical learning.  Students learn practically in the clinical environment. Despite the progression in nursing education, in some clinical settings, the effective teaching behavior of clinical instructors is absent that affects student learning. The aim of this study is to assess nursing students' perception of a good clinical preceptor. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used for the study. Data were collected from all 4th year nursing students (n=130) in the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Medical Technical Sciences, Alzaiem Alazhari University (AAU). The result shows that 68 out of 130 (52.3%) nursing students considered teaching ability as very important followed by competencies 57 (43.8%).

Introduction. To produce competent, confident, critical thinker with the ability to lead, to question, and to be questioned is needed in nursing education. This study aimed to assess perceived clinical competence among nursing students. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted in two nursing schools in Ethiopia. Data were collected using pretested, semistructured questionnaire. Clinical competence was measured by Short Nursing Competence Questionnaires. Binary logistic regression model was fitted to identify associated factors. An adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence interval was computed. Results. Overall, 48.7 % of the participants perceived themselves as clinically competent. Social support [moderate (AOR = 5.87, CI: 1.346, 9.586), high (AOR = 6.27, CI: 1.741, 7.608)], type of institution [(AOR = 3.20, CI: 1.331, 7.694)], year of study [(AOR = 1.89 (4.760, 18.510)], attending theoretical classes [(AOR = 0.83 CI: 0.017, 0.412)], and clinical environment [poor (AOR = 5.65, CI: 1.837, 13.453), fair (AOR = 7.31, CI: 2.790, 15.356), good (AOR = 9.31, CI: 3.260, 19.967)] were associated with clinical competence. Conclusion. More than half of the study participants perceived themselves as incompetent. Social support, type of institution, year of study, attending theory classes, and clinical environment were associated with perceived clinical competence. Authors suggested that nursing students attend their theoretical class and utilize the available resource.

Management is a process of planning, decision making, organizing, leading, motivating and controlling, and an effective utilization of the resources to reach the organizational goals efficiently and effectively. Management has a crucial role in quality of work and production in any institutions. Although a rapid increase of Nursing Education Institutions in Nepal since last decade which had been trained thousands of nursing cadres, the management aspects of these institutions are not studied adequately. Thus current study intended to explore the current status of Nursing Education Institution Management as experienced and perceived by the bachelors nursing students. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among the nursing institutions in Kathmandu valley. Of the total 28 in the valley, 14 were selected purposively. From the selected institutions, all 377 eligible students currently in final year of study were selected. Among them, 208were from BSN and 169 were from B Sc program.  The data was collected through the self administered structured questioners after taking informed consent. Data entry and analysis was done in SPSS version 16 software. The findings of the study show that 70% students were satisfied in institutional management (mean59.62, SD ± 3.66). In academic management (78%), (mean139.82, SD ± 6.22), followed by human resources 67%, (mean43.54, SD ± 2.79) and were in physical resources management 75% students were satisfied (mean45.02, SD ± 3.08). Analysis of variations between group (administrators, faculties, students) found statistical significance (p value <0.05). So it is concluded the perception of students, faculties and administrator were different on managing the nursing education.

The clinical competence of nursing students in operating room (OR) is an important issue in nursing education. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian Perceived Perioperative Competence Scale–Revised (PPCS-R) instrument. This cross-sectional study was conducted across 12 universities in Iran. The psychometric properties and factor structure of the PPCS-R for OR students was examined. Based on the results of factor analysis, seven items were removed from the original version of the scale. The fitness indices of the Persian scale include comparative fit index (CFI) 5 .90, goodness-of-fit-index (GFI) 5 .86, adjusted goodness-of-fit index (AGFI) 5 .90, normed fit index (NFI) 5 .84, and root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) 5 .04. High validity and reliability indicated the scale’s value for measuring perceived perioperative competence of Iranian OR students.

Background: Identifying and analyzing the occurrence and sort of student clinical errors which will allow for early detection of problems and offer chance for system evaluation and improvement. This study intended to explain the types of errors along with near-miss errors encountered by nursing students in clinical settings. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at five recognized governmental universities in Khartoum State and included 470 nursing students in their fourth year (2017–2018)who met the selection criteria of the study. A full-converge sampling method was used and data were first collected by the researcher using published self-administered survey and then analyzed. Results: Initially, the study included 519 nursing students but only 470 of them responded(at a rate of 90.5%).The responses showed that while one-third of them, that is, 162(34.5%) students, had never encountered an error, 99(21.1%), 79 (16.8%), 71 (15.1%), 46(9.8%), and 13(2.8%) of them encountered errors with respect to needle stick, medical administration, omission of treatment, and wrong treatment, respectively. Regarding the near-miss errors encountered by the respondents, almost half, that is, 202(43%)of them had never  encountered a near-miss errors, while 112(23.8%), 106(22.6%), 18(3.8%),17(3.6%), and 15(3.2%) of them encountered near-miss errors with respect to medication administration, omission of treatment, wrong  patient, providing wrong treatment and others   such as improper bedrail used, did not follow sterile precautions respectively. Conclusion: This study concluded that errors and near-miss errors exist and that awareness on clinical errors and near-misses need to be raised and strategies be developed for error management. AbstractBackgroundIncivility in nursing education can negatively affect the academic achievement. As there is no tool in Arabic to assess incivility among nursing students, there is a need for a valid and reliable tool.PurposeThis study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Incivility in Nursing Education- Revised (INE-R) survey.MethodThis cross-sectional study was conducted in four universities in Iraq using a convenience sampling strategy. A translated Arabic version of the INE-R was used to assess its validity and reliability.ResultsThree hundred eighty-nine surveys were included in the analysis. The contrast validity was confirmed by using Exploratory Factor Analysis. The internal consistency was tested using Cronbach’s alpha, which showed the result of 0.87.ConclusionThe Arabic version of the Incivility in Nursing Education- Revised is a valid and reliable scale. This scale can be used in Arab countries to assess incivility in nursing education.

Background: Caring is the core of nursing and should be cultivated in student nurses. However, there are serious concerns about the caring concern in the clinical environment and in nursing education. Clinical instructors are ideally positioned to care for student nurses so that they in turn, can learn to care for their patients.Methods: A descriptive, comparative, cross-sectional and correlational quantitative research design with convenience sampling was conducted to describe the perceptions of junior student nurses (n = 148) and senior student nurses (n = 168) regarding clinicalin structor caring. A structured self administered questionnaire using the Nursing Student Perceptions of Instructor Caring (NSPIC) (Wade & Kasper, 2006) was used. Descriptive statistics and hypotheses testing using parametric and non parametric methods were conducted. The reliability of the NSPIC was determined.Results: Respondents had a positive perception of their clinical instructors' caring. No relationship could be found between the course the respondents were registered for, the frequency of contact with a clinical instructor, the ages of the respondents and their perceptions of clinical instructor caring. The NSPIC was found to be reliable if one item each from two of the subscales were omitted.Conclusions: Student nurses perceived most strongly that a caring clinical instructor made them feel confident, specifically when he/she showed genuine interest in the patients and their care, and when he/she made them feel that they could be successful.

AbstractObjectivesTo determine the prevalence of the assumption that ‘reading too much’ could cause madness (i.e., severe mental illness) among medical, nursing, and community health students, and also explore the relationship between these students’ status on this assumption and their academic performance.MethodsThis study was a cross-sectional study conducted among a convenient sample of medical, nursing, and community health students (n = 122) studying within the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital campus, Sokoto, Nigeria. Study tool was a paper questionnaire, which obtained information on the demographic profile, awareness of ‘madness’, assumption that ‘reading too much’ is a cause of madness, and self-rating of the participants’ academic performance in their current course of study. Data collected was analysed using the SPSS version 20 software. Test of associations between variables were done using Chi square test.ResultsThe mean age of the 122 respondents was 27.3 years, majority (61.5%) of them were males, and 53.3% were medical students. More than half of the surveyed nursing students (54.2%) and community health students (55.6%), unlike the surveyed medical students (24.6%), had the assumption that reading too much could make them run mad. There was no statistically significant relationship between the assumption that ‘reading too much’ is a cause of mental illness and academic performance of the respondents.ConclusionAssumption that reading too much could cause madness is a fairly common phenomenon among the surveyed tertiary school students, irrespective of their level of academic performance. There exists the need to disabuse the minds of tertiary school students from the assumption that reading too much could make one run mad.

Introduction:Insufficient research has been conducted into the factors that prompt young students to select nursing education as a profession in Saudi Arabia.Aim:The aim of the study is to identify factors affecting students' preference for nursing education and their intent to leave.Methods:This study follows a descriptive cross-sectional research design, with data collected by adapting the Tan-Kuick questionnaire to measure second-year nursing students’ (n=162) preference for nursing education and intent to leave one academic institution in Saudi Arabia.Results:Nursing image is identified as the major factor influencing the nursing students’ preference for nursing education in Saudi Arabia (69.89 ± 16.49), and parents' image of nursing is identified as the factor with the least amount of influence (34.52 ± 22.04). Additionally, more than half of the nursing students surveyed report intending to leave the nursing profession. Regarding the reasons for their intent to leave, a total of 70% of the surveyed nursing students report having no interest in the nursing profession. Family disagreement and societal image are also identified as common prompts to leave nursing.Conclusion:The study recommends the use of media to enhance the image of the nursing profession through the presentation of role models that talk to the students and encourage and motivate them to engage in the working life of a nurse. In addition, the study suggests replicating the longitudinal study for the same group in their third and fourth year of study to see if they leave the nursing profession.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine attitudes and knowledge regarding career planning after graduation, as well as the perceived educational environment of a pediatric clinical course, among nursing students at Menoufia University in Egypt. This study also investigated the influence of the perceived educational environment on future career planning among nursing students.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was used, with a structured interview questionnaire that included demographic characteristics, a section that measured students' attitudes and knowledge toward their career planning, and the Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure Scale (DREEM).Results: The mean total score for the DREEM scale was 109.61, and most students perceived many areas within the program as more positive than negative. However, they had low levels of knowledge regarding career planning.Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, further efforts should be made to stimulate students' interest in pediatric nursing, to integrate theoretical content with practice, and to improve their planning activities early during their study. It is important to engage students in discussions concerning their ideas and worries about factors they perceive as less enhancing and more threatening in clinical settings.
