The aim of this study was to identify the digital library services for visually impaired (VI) students, studying in the University of Karachi. The VI students have the same information needs as that of sighted people but digital information services are not available for them. The VI students have been facing problems in searching information on the internet because they can not use computer and internet without the support of a helper or some specific software or hardware. The researchers collected data by interviewing VI students. The findings show that the VI students had a keen interest in using digital information through digital libraries because they were aware of the importance and usefulness of digital information and wanted to get benefit of that in their education.

This study represents a framework that digital libraries can leverage to increase usage and visibility. The adopted qualitative research aims to examine a digital engagement strategy for the libraries in the University of Ghana (UG). Data is collected from participants (digital librarians) who are key stakeholders of digital library service provision in the University of Ghana Library System (UGLS). The chapter reveals that digital library services included rare collections, e-journal, e-databases, e-books, microfilms, e-theses, e-newspapers, and e-past questions. Additionally, the research revealed that the digital library service patronage could be enhanced through outreach programmes, open access, exhibitions, social media, and conferences. Digital librarians recommend that to optimize digital library services, literacy programmes/instructions, social media platforms, IT equipment, software, and website must be deployed. In conclusion, a DES helps UGLS foster new relationships, connect with new audiences, and establish new or improved brand identity.

The current analytical survey investigates the utilization and effectiveness of digital libraries in 51 self-financed engineering colleges affiliated to the VTU in the Karnataka, India. The research paper is based on survey of final year BE students and faculty members have been chosen for the study. Questionnaire tool was used to gather data. Findings shows that the Utilization of digital information resources for overall purposes is found to a large extent among respondents with mean value of 2.28±0.89. An impressive 88.9% of respondents are of the opinion that digital library services are superior to conventional library services. The digital library utilization and its purpose are correlated using Pearson correlation and its significant value r=0.489, p=0.000<0.01 proves that user dependency on digital information resources is positively increasing in the respondents’ activities and has an impact on their academic pursuits.

The purpose of this research is to examine students' information-seeking intention regarding academic digital library services guiding by the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) and Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Data was collected among students in a public higher learning institution in Federal Territory of Labuan Malaysia. The empirical result of the hierarchical regression had confirmed that students' intention to seek for information in digital library was influenced mainly by their attitude, implying that, in predicting the information-seeking intention in an academic digital library with TPB was much better than TRA. The findings of the research provide broader insights for the academic digital libraries to be more aware of the important factors that influence library users in seeking for information and fulfil their requirement. A new motion can be developed by using the result of this research, which improve the knowledge from previous studies via the assessment from TPB.

Digital Library Services (DLS) at the University of Iowa Libraries has progressively worked toward coordinating more large-scale, “left-to-right” digitization projects both within the libraries and across campus, moving away from model of web exhibits that were often created before the department was formed in 2005. However, a variety of situations still call for small-scale projects. This chapter, describing the design and production of the “W9XK Experimental Television Digital Collection”, attempts to show that small-scale digitization projects can bridge that gap, and yield collections that rise above the level of web exhibits in their usefulness to scholars and the general public by limiting exclusive selection and promoting comprehensiveness. While mirroring this approach of mass-digitization, digital librarians can also use curatorial decisions and software functionality to further assist users of these small-scale collections.

This study investigated the information needs and library service delivery to students with visual impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria with a focus on assessing the influence of library 1 services; information needs; media formats availability and accessibility on library use among students with visual impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria. The study established educational information, health information and information on coping with their visual impairment as major information needs of the visually impaired students while circulation service, reference service and screen reading service on computers are found to be the only library services provided for them. Print Books/Magazines, Braille Books and Braille-in-Print were found to be prominent among the few media-formats available for the students while the dearth of media-formats was found to be inadequate in meeting the information needs of students with visual impairment in Oyo State. Lack of ease of accessing the library resources, facilities as well as library staff whenever they need help, poor policy on borrowing privileges, lack of path sounders to guide their movement around the library among others were major accessibility issues confronting the students in enjoying quality library services. The study recommended the need to address the provision of basic facilities that are critical to effective library service delivery to the visually impaired students.

This study aims to evaluating the pattern of digital library utilization in the time of COVID-19 by the postgraduate students in Yarmouk University - Jordan, in addition to helping the university library’s staff and decision makers to identify the role that the digital library play as a response to the closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effectiveness, Moreover, to examine availability of the ICT infrastructure and support modality the distance teaching and learning which took place due to the university closure since the start of the pandemic. A was used to collect data on how the needs of the postgraduate students and their use of the digital library resources during the period of COVID-19 pandemic. The sample consisted of (180) postgraduate students selected by using simple random sampling technique through (GoogleDocs) in order to represent the study population which is (759) postgraduate students. The findings indicated the poor utilization of digital information resources since students depended on the internet to obtain free digital resources. As a conclusion, the students’ skills have overcome the digital gap as their generation depends on the use of all forms of smart devices.

To implement the next generation digital libraries, one has to examine both the data and functional aspects of the digital library requirements and understand the existing available technologies. In this chapter, we outline the major implementation issues of next generation digital libraries and review existing standards, tools and related research topics. Due to new kinds of content and metadata, as well as domain- and task-specific usage, the next generation digital libraries will need to handle the representation and storage scheme of metadata and content. Unlike the brick-and-mortar libraries, there are new challenges in metadata harvesting, search and retrieval that require standardized protocols to be adopted across different digital libraries. Finally, some advanced digital library services are also discussed.

The digital reproduction and transmission of audiovisual works seems to be the next stage of dissemination and commercial exploitation of protected works, following musical works. Additionally, the latest major novelty of the information society is the creation of digital libraries, for profit or not, at national and international level. The inclusion of audiovisual works in digital libraries and their resulting exploitation raise a number of legal issues. This chapter aims to review the economic rights involved in the process of digital exploitation as well as the delimitation of the safeguarding of the moral rights, which the libraries are bound to observe. Such review examines both continental and common law jurisdictions. It does not, however, address issues related to the off-line exploitation of audiovisual works or their further use by the user of the digital library services.
