The article talks about the “heterotopias” and “heterochronias” based on studies of ethnography of duration (Eckert & Rocha, 2013b) in the context of large Brazilian metropolises. We propose a reflection especially in relation to the work Des espaces autres (1967) by Michel Foucault (1984) in which the author criticizes the cumulative conception of time for the understanding of the contemporary world. According to the author, the current epoch is more related to space than to the accumulation of time, because the experiences of juxtaposition and simultaneity are opposed to the experiences of linear and progressive time proposed by the modern epistème. In opposition to the use of heterotopias as a way of neglecting the importance of “heterochronias”, this writing proposes a critical incorporation of Foucault's heterotopology into the studies of the ethnography of duration in contemporary urban spaces

Soberania. Disciplina. Segurança. Poder. ABSTRATCT: The objective of this work is to draw from the concept of device in Michel Foucault an analysis from the perspective of the relations of knowledge/power in search of a more detailed understanding of what we could call a device of sovereignty, disciplinary device and device of security. It is a question of investigating the interdependence present in the discourses that legitimize each device and the relations of power that allows the innumerable practical articulations that we find in our societies. From this methodology of analysis of the power, we will investigate the legal-discursive conception of power, the concept of disciplinary power, as well as what Foucault calls biopolitics. As a result, the understanding of the globalized contemporary world becomes more accessible as a time when numerous devices come into shock, making the possible political analysis more and more complex. We seek a diagnosis of the present, by understanding its present dispositions of power, so that we can move forward in search of freer and less oppressive, normalized or regulated relations.  KEY-WORDS: Device. Sovereignty. Discipline. Security. Power.

AbstractIn Birth of Biopolitics, Foucault tries to analyze the emergencies and provenances of the economic market understood as a way of veridiction from our western society from its appearance with the pastoral of Christian meat, through the modern state reason, to neoliberalism doctrine. The present papper tries to trace the consequences of such a concept in the sense of thinking of it as a model of governance according to which, in the contemporary world, governmentalization is focused on the changing flow of economic indicators responsible for establishing the rules of what is considered good or bad government. It happens that, as a reflected practice of government, the economic market ends up operating as a device for assujeitamento conducting hostage of its indicators not only the State and its institutions, but the subjects themselves who do not recognize another ethical element otherwise those from the economic capacity of the market manage what must live and what must die.

Tremendous technological developments in contemporary world have transformed all aspects of human life. Through interaction with these developments, living spaces should correspond to science and technology and serve to satisfy basic human needs especially safety and security. Due to their geographical and political situation, many countries have been exposed to a variety of natural or man-made threats, and have suffered heavy human and financial losses. For that reason, urban developments should make use of digital architecture products and create fluidity in order to modify human living spaces in correspondence with prerequisites of passive defense, for vulnerability reduction, and expansion of defensive measures in order to create an environment which holds the potential to overcome crises. The present research investigates the benefits of digital technology in formation of living spaces and the impact of approach to flexible urban spaces on mutual interaction between man and environment, as well as the extent to which these transformations create a sense of security and reduce vulnerabilities in urban crises. Fluidity of environment is in paradigm with active human responses to environment. The need for creating an environment safe from risks and threats is the motive behind the approach to flexibility with the use of technological advent. As a part of environment and by relying on computers and geometrical language, technology generates forms which are manifested in all parts and elements of living spaces, thus creating potential and elastic environments. It seems that by creating flexible spaces with the use of digital products, these environmental changes lead to organization of development plans, reduce vulnerability against natural risks and man-made threats, increase efficiency after said threat is realized, and significantly contain the extent and intensity of damages and losses.

AbstractRichard Ashley's writings in the 1980s are central to the production of post-structuralist or ‘dissident’ scholarship in International Relations (IR). In this article, I use analysis of the standard dissident view of Ashley's writings to examine the interpretive practices through which the community of dissident scholars was produced textually. Dissident ‘thinking space’ in the discipline was produced in part through the exclusion of Marx, capital and class, despite these being present in Ashley's writings throughout this period. Similar interpretive practices were applied to the writings of Michel Foucault, with similar effects. This exclusion has negative consequences for dissident scholarship, in particular analysis of historicity and the place of capitalism in contemporary world politics. Overcoming these problems requires reading the work of Ashley and other founders of dissident scholarship in a different way are attentive to the silences of thinking space.

Cities of Saviors is a short study of the urban spaces of E. E. Cummings’ poetry and Peter Ackroyd’s seminal novel, Hawksmoor. Although at first sight a comparison of these two authors might seem surprising, the analysis offered by this new book shows that such a reading can be revelatory for the understanding of both authors. Relying on close readings informed by the spatial theories of Mircea Eliade, Michel Foucault and Gaston Bachelard, it sheds light on a common understanding of space: one that is immersed in a dark sacrality. By doing so, it also radically reinterprets the oeuvre of both authors, in that it positions Cummings away from the accepted image of the neo-Romantic poet of transcendence and situates Ackroyd in the continuing tradition of (late) Modernism

This text discusses and explains the relation between the urban crisis today and the antivalue in respect to the conceptual framework by David Harvey, a well-known British geographer. He approaches this theme in many of his books, including ‘Marx, capital and the madness of economic reason’, published in Brazil, in 2018. This text uses this book as a starting point for the discussion of how the contemporary world, which is increasingly urban, is dominated by the Empire of antivalue, especially in the form of a growing debt. The antivalue, in the form of capital holder of interest, plays a crucial role in the accumulation of capital, articulating production, circulation and realization of commodities, promoting and facilitating the geographical movement of capital and the transfer of capital between economic circuits and cycles of production. However, debt is the favorite form of antivalue under capitalism today. In addition to being supported and granted by the State in a variety of ways, including through public debt, debt imprisons all economic agents in perpetual servitude. Debt follows the tendency of continuous production of value and surplus value under capitalism, a movement that Harvey calls bad infinity. Antivalue in its form of debt is also called fetishism of capital, which defines the contradictory situation in which money alone seems to have the magic powers to create more money. The consequences of growing debt to the urban crisis go beyond the necessity of solving fiscal problems of the State. The need to produce value and surplus value, in addition to the service of the debt generates urban spaces marked by gentrification and segregation. In sum, the text discusses the urban crisis today in the context of the domination by the financial-real estate complex, basing the discussion on Marx’s theory of value and the concept of antivalue, as presented by David Harvey.

Cartographies of the ungovernability of bodies in art and life Abstract: We have suffered a growing governmentalization of the bodies and behaviors throughout the modern and contemporary world. This was one of the expressive contributions of the French philosopher Michel Foucault’s thought. However, such governmentalization has not come without a counterpart. In any case, it is a systematic undertaking of investment by the power and of reduction of the bodies to their extensive, utilitarian, functional and organic dimension to a word, instrumental. A plethora of practices has been created in various fields - health, education, work, leisure, sports, etc. - to this end. However, bodies are not reduced to a state of affairs, to their extension, in short, to their reification, as unavoidable as it might be. This work aims to circumscribe this problem, in order to explore the theme that concerns the relationship among the bodies, the culture and the role of the art as an intensive cartography, under the sign of ungovernability. Keywords: cartography, ungovernability, body, art, philosophy.
