Objective:to describe the quality of life and its interface with the quality of sleep and multiple drug use among university students. Materials and Methods: this is a cross-sectional research, carried out with a sample of university health occupation students, having the perception of quality of lifeas an outcome variable, and the report of sleep disorders and multiple use of medicationsas predictors. This research was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Bahia, under nº2.852.559. Results:158participants(66,1%) of the sample are women, with an average age of 22±3.53 years. The prevalence of multiple medication use was 59(24.7%). Dissatisfaction with sleep reached 119(49.8%), andquality of life was perceived as poorby94(39.3%), with a significant association of these variables (p<0.03). Conclusion:dissatisfaction with sleep is frequent and itsassociation with quality of life declared as bad obtained positive significance. The practice of multiple use of medications highlights the importance of awareness and further research on the association of these outcomes, reflected in the academic quality of life.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the quality of life of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the three levels of the healthcare system. Method: A quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study carried out in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare units with individuals in outpatient care. The validated Diabetes-39 instrument was used to evaluate quality of life. Results: The sample consisted of 53 people. There was a decreasing tendency in the quality of life impairment from the primary to the tertiary care levels. In the total sample, there were differences between domains of quality of life with the variables gender, insulin use and occupation, greater perception of quality of life impairment and disease severity in people with higher rates of glycated hemoglobin. Conclusion: Quality of life tends to worse as the disease worsens. The results suggest that quality of life is related to sociodemographic and clinical variables, therefore, these should be considered in the care.

Background:The aim of this study was to analyze how sociodemographic characteristics, health, characteristics of quality of life, and perceptions of places are associated with park use in Curitiba, Brazil. Methods:A cross-sectional study with face-toface interviews was conducted with 1461 adults who lived within the area of 500 m near 8 parks. The survey included questions about gender, age, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, body mass index, perceived health, number of morbidities, perception of quality of life, physical environment, leisure opportunities, self-satisfaction, and satisfaction with the park. The use of a specific park near the residence was identified as 1 of 3 outcomes: park use versus nonuse, park use ≥ 1 time/wk, and park use ≥ 3 times/wk. Poisson regression was used to examine associations between the independent variables and each level of park use. Results:Overall park use (60.9%) and ≥ 1 time/wk (32.2%) and ≥ 3 times/wk use (16.8%) were associated with age and leisure opportunities. Leisure opportunities and park satisfaction were related to more frequent visits to these outdoor areas. Conclusions:These results can be used in guiding interventions that improve the quality of parks and other outdoor areas and offer leisure opportunities to the community.

Background: Quality of life (QoL) is affected even at early stages in older adults with cognitive impairment. The use of mobile health (mHealth) technology can offer support in daily life and improve the physical and mental health of older adults. However, a clarification of how mHealth technology can be used to support the QoL of older adults with cognitive impairment is needed. Objective: To investigate factors affecting mHealth technology use in relation to self-rated QoL among older adults with cognitive impairment. Methods: A cross-sectional research design was used to analyse mHealth technology use and QoL in 1,082 older participants. Baseline data were used from a multi-centered randomized controlled trial including QoL, measured by the Quality of Life in Alzheimer’s Disease (QoL-AD) Scale, as the outcome variable. Data were analyzed using logistic regression models. Results: Having moderately or high technical skills in using mHealth technology and using the internet via mHealth technology on a daily or weekly basis was associated with good to excellent QoL in older adults with cognitive impairment. Conclusions: The variation in technical skills and internet use among the participants can be interpreted as an obstacle for mHealth technology to support QoL.

AbstractObjectiveTo evaluate the correlation among nutritional status, tooth wear and quality of life in Brazilian schoolchildren.DesignThe study followed a cross-sectional design. Nutritional status was measured via anthropometry using BMI and tooth wear was measured using the Dental Wear Index; both these assessments were carried out by a trained recorder according to standard criteria. A modified version of the Child Oral Impacts on Daily Performances was used to assess quality of life.SettingCity of Bauru, in Brazil.SubjectsA cluster sample of 396 schoolchildren (194 boys and 202 girls) aged 7–10 years.ResultsThe anthropometric assessment showed similar situations for both sexes regarding underweight (31·40 % in boys and 30·20 % in girls) and overweight/obesity (33·96 % in boys and 33·17 % in girls). The underweight children showed a greater severity of tooth wear in the primary teeth (OR=0·72; CI 0·36, 1·42), although in the permanent dentition the obese children had a greater severity of tooth wear (OR=1·42; 95 % CI 0·31, 6·55). The tooth wear was correlated with age for both dentitions.ConclusionsTooth wear in the primary and permanent dentition may be related to nutritional status. Tooth wear and obesity did not have a significant impact on the schoolchildren’s perception of quality of life.

Descritores: Violência; Idoso; Qualidade de Vida; Exposição à Violência; Autoimagem; Determinantes sociais de Saúde.ABSTRACT Objective: to describe experiences of violence and self-perception of quality of life and health after 60 years of age. Method: quantitative, cross - sectional and descriptive study developed with 100 elderly. Data collection was used for the Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREEF), Mental State Assessment and questionnaire on the occurrence of violence. Results: there was a higher frequency of female elderly (62%), incomplete primary education (43%) and family income up to a minimum wage (46%). More than half of the elderly (62%) reported not having a good quality of life, and 38% described feelings compatible with despair, anxiety and depression. It was observed that 73% suffered some form of violence, including insult and discrimination (40% and 35% respectively), abandonment (31%), financial abuse (15%) and physical aggression (12%). There was no relation between suffering violence and self-perception of health and quality of life (p-value 0.5587). Conclusion: the importance of the identification and magnitude of violence in this population segment is highlighted, since interdisciplinary and intersectoral interventions need to be articulated with the health sector and, thus, to favor the protagonism of the elderly in confronting violence. BACKGROUND: Hypertension is one of the most common diseases around the world, which is the most risk factor related to cardiovascular disease. The quality of life of hypertensive patients is influenced by various factors, namely age, sex, educational background, ethnicity and nutritional status. Another factor that is also important is the quality of sleep.AIM: We aimed the assessment of sleep quality using a PSQI questionnaire, and quality of life assessment with the SF-36 questionnaire.METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional study of 45 respondents at the H. Adam Malik Central General Hospital in Medan in 2018. Assessment of sleep quality was performed through the PSQI questionnaire (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), and quality of life assessment was carried out with the SF-36 questionnaire.RESULTS: The prevalence of impaired sleep quality in hypertensive patients was 35.6%. Most patients have a good quality of life, with 71.1%. In this study, sleep quality was found to be related to the quality of life (p = 0.037). Furthermore, variables related to sleep quality were sex (gender) (p = 0.003) and education (p = 0.005). In multivariate analysis, the quality of life is predominantly influenced by sleep quality (p = 0.025).CONCLUSION: The quality of life of hypertensive patients is influenced by the quality of sleep.

Abstract Background The Heroes Clinic is a unique dental clinic housed at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine that offers military veterans dental care at no or minimal cost. The aim of this study is to collect patient feedback on their perception of the quality of care they receive at the Heroes clinic. Methods A cross-sectional study design was used to gather patient feedback on empathy and quality of care using Service Quality Measures (SERVQUAL) and Dental Satisfaction Questionnaire (DSQ) frameworks. Mean scores were calculated to determine the average of positive or negative responses. Fisher’s exact test was conducted to test any significant differences between the patients’ perception of quality of care they receive at the Heroes clinic (outcome variable) and the SERVQUAL and DSQ independent variables. Results One hundred and seventy-seven veterans responded to the survey with a response rate of 35%. Over 50% of patients were between the ages of 20–35 years and 63% were students. The mean scores demonstrated high levels of all variables. Bivariate analysis for SERVQUAL data determined that veterans agreed to conditions demonstrated by four scales of empathy and all scales of responsiveness (p < 0.05). DSQ bivariate analysis revealed that veterans agreed to conditions demonstrated by four scales of quality of care, two scales of pain management, one scale of accessibility, and also general satisfaction pertaining to the received dental care (p < 0.05). Conclusions Heroes clinic has provided quality dental care to veterans as attested by the patients.
