This article explores the domain of entrepreneurial research by thematically mapping and assessing the intellectual area of the field. Existing reviews show that the body of knowledge of entrepreneurship is growing, and while important contributions to theoretical and methodological integration are proven, the field is described as phenomenal based, potentially fragmented and suffering from theoretical shortcomings. Based on that entrepreneurship encompasses a variety of entrepreneurial developments throughout the country, we identify 44 relevant journal articles published in the 2009-2018 period. We inventory the development domain of entrepreneurship to provide relevant and comprehensive research organizations. This involves examining the subject of Entrepreneurship research, and inductively synthesizing and categorizing it into the main themes and sub-themes. As such, we offer reliable, ontologically constructed, and practically useful resources. From this basis, we discuss phenomena, problems, inconsistencies, and temporary debates in which new theories of entrepreneurship continue to develop and research can be done. We conclude that Entrepreneurship has several thematic fields that are coherent and rich in potential for future research and theory development.

This paper presents an in-depth insider’s case study of a “runaway” information systems (IS) project in a U.S. State government agency. Because such projects are politically sensitive matters and often obscured from public view, details of how such projects operate are not well understood. This case study adds new details to the body of knowledge surrounding IS project escalation and de-escalation. The authors’ resulting project narrative details how this project went out of control for so long, raising important questions for future research in theory development for both IS project escalation and de-escalation. The paper argues that a punctuated equilibrium approach to analyzing “runaway” IS projects are a more fruitful area to explore than are “stage models.”

As the world is trying to discover what the shape of the much-needed next economy and socio-economy will be, this study attempts to explore the possibility of a framework that would address holistically the different inspiration economy driven constructs that have already been presented by researchers and authors. With the development of humanity and the fast pace of a knowledge-based economy, inspiration is becoming an ever more essential factor for the development of any socio-economy.The study of the inspiration economy framework by the knowledge community is still in its infancy, especially if the need for deeper work, as explored in the work of Thrash and Elliot (2010, 2004, 2003) and the Handbook of Inspiration Economy by Buheji and Thomas (2016), are acknowledged. A review of the literature shows that the body of knowledge has not so far established a robust theoretical framework that will guide researchers from a holistic perspective and demonstrate how the inspiration economy can be approached by researchers.This study aims to address a general question: how the inspiration economy can be approached by researchers. In seeking an answer to this question, the paper has two objectives: 1) to review how researchers are seeing the constructs of the inspiration economy framework, taking into account the available literature; 2) to develop recommendations about the research that would contribute towards unleashing the constructs of the coming inspiration economy. Finally, a set of conclusions is presented. This offers a better understanding of the inspiration economy with the aim of improving future research that would, in turn, enhance both discussions on and knowledge of the subject.

Purpose This paper aims to empirically investigate how event innovation may induce desirable corporate branding. Design/methodology/approach A survey yielded 280 complete responses from tourists who had attended an event in Macau. Structural equation modeling was used to test the innovation-corporate loyalty framework through perceived event value and corporate image, with a multi-group comparison to examine differences between first-time and repeat customers. Findings The results indicate that innovation is not only the key to value enhancement of the event but also an efficacious instrument of branding the parent company and building corporate loyalty; only product-related innovation has a significant impact on event value; both functional and emotional values induce a more favorable corporate image; and event-induced corporate branding is more effective in securing repeat business than attracting new clientele. Practical implications The findings help hospitality operators and event planners to leverage innovative events for corporate branding and cater to different customer segments by providing distinct marketing strategies. Originality/value The study contributes to the body of knowledge regarding event management and corporate branding and sheds light on future research to explore the initiative and benefit of pushing forward event innovation.

Qualitative research has been criticised for not building a distinctive body of knowledge, leading to fewer publications and citations. In the light of this critique, this paper offers guidance on how qualitative researchers can contribute to developing a distinctive and cumulative body of knowledge, thereby attracting more attention to their research. In pursuit of this aim, there are four objectives addressed in this paper. The first objective is to explain the relevance and value of deductive qualitative approaches to theory building. Secondly, to illustrate how examining the maturation of a concept can help decide the appropriateness of a particular research approach. This paper explains how in their planning, researchers need to confirm their intention to contribute to theory development and to ensure that this is appropriate, given the stage of maturation of the concept to be investigated. The third objective is to offer guidance on the philosophical assumptions of the researcher and how to test research propositions. Therefore, it is advised that data collection and analysis should take place within a post-positivist paradigm, and that the field work should be designed and carried out with research propositions as a point of departure. The final research objective is to explain how the findings of a deductive qualitative study should be handled to demonstrate the contribution of the study to the body of knowledge. Here guidance is offered on the contextualisation and generalisation of research findings.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide state-of-the-art knowledge about business model innovation (BMI) and suggest avenues for future research. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review approach was adopted with thematic analysis being conducted on 92 articles. Findings The body of knowledge for this concept is in its infancy and is highly fragmented. This study therefore attempts to consolidate this fragmented knowledge. It reveals dominant themes, establishes coherence, and identifies conflicting arguments in the current literature. It also points out gaps in the research and highlights new directions for research. Research limitations/implications This study analyzed articles that were found based on a systematic literature review approach. Practical implications This study identifies some fundamental issues that managers need to understand regarding BMI. Originality/value The main value of this study lies in its synthesis of the current knowledge of BMI.


This chapter aims to explain the different implications of the research results, including theoretical implications, and how the findings contribute to the body of knowledge, and the practical implications for managers and decision makers in organizations. These include how they could use the research findings to achieve better results in customer, employee, society, and overall performance areas by developing the right types of organizational culture and using the right ICT tools. This chapter also sets out the research limitations and provides recommendations for future research based on the findings and experience from this study.

Purpose – This paper aims to conduct a systematic review of the literature on supply chain collaboration published over a 10-year period from 2005 to 2014. It explores the nature and extent of research undertaken to identify key themes emerging in the field and gaps that need to be addressed. Design/methodology/approach – The authors review a sample of 207 articles from 69 journals, after using an iterative cycle of defining appropriate search keywords, searching the literature and conducting the analysis. Findings – Key themes include the meaning of collaboration; considerations for supply chain collaboration theory; emerging areas in collaboration for sustainability, technology-enabled supply chains and humanitarian supply chains; and the need for a more holistic approach, multi-tier perspectives and research into B2C collaborations. Research limitations/implications – The paper provides discussion and scope for future research into the area which would contribute to the field tremendously. Originality/value – There have been very few reviews in the past on supply chain collaboration, and this is one of the first extensive reviews conducted to address how well the body of knowledge on supply chain collaboration corresponds with our contemporary society.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to offer a comprehensive overview of challenges and risks of the Internet of Things (IoT) in supply chain management (SCM) and provide a structured framework for classifying and analyzing the relevant literature to deduce insights for research and practice.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review (SLR) of 102 peer-reviewed journal articles on the topic of IoT in SCM was conducted.FindingsThis review identifies, categorizes and describes the relevant literature regarding the dimensions time and specificity. The resulting framework contains a holistic overview including focus areas and relations of macro-environmental, network-related and organizational challenges and risks. Furthermore, this review represents a conceptual framework for future research, considering the multidisciplinary body of the subject and provides an analysis of the timeline of literature, journals and used methodologies.Practical implicationsThis study offers valuable insights into IoT and its impact on applications, processes and the structure of organizations and supply chains (SCs). The identification of challenges and risks helps to prepare for changes in the future because of the disruptive nature of this technology.Originality/valueThe originality of this paper lies in the synthesis of the fragmented body of literature of IoT challenges and risks for SCM. The derived framework and identification of relations and research gaps provide the foundation for further research to evaluate the relations between challenges and risks and offer solutions.

Tourist destinations have evolved throughout the world because governments invest on developing a tourist sector. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life of the local residents. For this reason, the impacts of tourism, both positive and negative, need to be measured from the local residents’ perspective. This study segments local residents according to their perception on tourism. A hybrid fuzzy segmentation method was applied to a sample of 504 local residents in Gran Canaria. Three representative profiles are obtained for two scenarios: (1) extreme tourist lovers, extreme tourist haters and ambivalents and (2) lovers, haters and ambivalents. Contributions to the body of knowledge and policy implications are discussed. A future research agenda is given.
