This article deals with the acquisition of Brazilian Portuguese as an additional language by Haitian immigrants, more specifically with regard to the perception of liquid consonants / l / and / r / in the intervocalic position, in forms such as pala, mala, Sara. A total of 14 resident Haitian immigrants, at the time of the survey, in the city of Pato Branco-PR, with a mean age of 30.07 (SD = 4.98), were all male. The discussion of the data is based on the theoretical assumptions of the Phonological Acquisition of L2 (FLEGE, 1995; BEST, TYLER, 2007) and the results show a tendency towards the assimilation process, ie without the separate categorization of / l / and / R / . There is also a positive effect of the course time and the fact that the informant resides here with his Haitian family, with better performance for those who attend longer courses and reside here with their family.

AbstractIn this article, I study the effect of entry and ownership structure on product variety within a city. Using longitudinal data on theaters in Korea, I find that the positive effect of entry on city-wide movie variety is limited only to the first few entrants. This finding, together with the observation that movie variety in a theater does not respond to entry, suggests that a theater's incentive to soften price competition by screening less popular movies not otherwise available in the city decreases as more theaters enter. I also find evidence that movie variety is greater in more concentrated cities, implying that a chain that owns multiple theaters in a city may differentiate the movie lineup offered in each theater more than when the theaters are individually owned in order to avoid cannibalization or to preempt entry.

This study analyzes the salt / sodium in food, in public policies and health. In this way, it proposes to provide subsidies around the concepts of the importance of the city in the construction of healthy food. The purpose of this review is to discuss the constraints, reflecting on them through theoretical assumptions about the promotion of citizenship and the pasteurization of taste / flavors. Food in society raises the integration of actions, actors and various social spaces, such as: State, schools, associations, businessmen in order to excel, consistent and efficient, by an educating city. In the context of the state of Espírito Santo, for two years, the law 10.369/2015 banned salt shakers at bars and restaurants in Espírito Santo for two years. In this way, research shows that excessive sodium intake (which raises blood pressure and affects the cardiovascular system) brings several complications that can last for many years or even a lifetime.

The question of the essence of the socio-cultural space and its intersection with the economic space of the city is considered. It is shown that the most effective organization of the spatial interaction of these spaces is in many ways a geographic task. A method is proposed for studying the social practices of the population to localize points and lines of interaction between the socio-cultural and economic spheres. The practice is considered in the course of which socio-cultural values are created that have a positive effect on the economic space of the city. The problem of the influence of pedestrian spaces (the most saturated with practices) on the formation of the city's image is discussed.

Abstract

The main goal of this article is to analyze the effect of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) as a management strategy on the enterprise performance, differentiating between male and female managers. To carry out the study, information was gathered from 170 companies in the leather-footwear sector of the state of Guanajuato, mainly in the city of León. The designed model was contrasted through a system of structural equations by partial least squares (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS® software. The general results indicate that although there is a positive effect with performance, there is a difference in the conformation of the EO, depending on the gender of the manager. In the case of women managers, there is a low orientation towards aggressive competitiveness and a greater orientation towards autonomy and proactivity than their counterparts. This study will serve managers, researchers and government officials to guide efforts to strengthen a female management in the region and in the same way academics to generate new theoretical approaches to the construction of EO from a gender perspective.

Keywords: Entrepreneurial Orientation, Women, Management, SME Company, Guanajuato.

This paper evaluates the real effects of pollution charges reform on [Formula: see text] emissions at the city level. Using the establishment of Comprehensive Work Plan for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction (The Plan) in China as a quasi-natural experiment, our difference-in-differences estimation shows that: (1) increasing pollution charges has a significant and positive effect on controlling industrial waste [Formula: see text], and this relationship is robust to different specifications and alternative measures; (2) [Formula: see text] emissions can be reduced to achieve reduction targets by forcing companies to strengthen the degree of process production controls and end-of-pipe treatment; (3) eastern and western cities have a better pollution control effect than the other regions, and large cities have better emission reduction effects than smaller cities. Overall, this paper sorts out the evolution of China’s pollution charge policy, and reveals the mechanisms behind the real effects of pollution charges reform on [Formula: see text] emissions, thus providing timely implications for policymakers concerned with environmental protection.

Intersections present a big safety problem in traffic since there has been an increased risk of crashes because of conflicts in the flows intersecting. A great number of studies done in the world show that roundabouts are safer than conventional intersections since it has been recorded that after the conversion to roundabouts the number of crashes has been decreasing. The research on applying Empirical Bayes (EB) method has been conducted by using 15 two-lane intersections in the city of Niš (Serbia), which have been converted into large compact two-lane roundabouts during the period of 2005-2013. The results show that the conversion of conventional intersections into roundabouts has positive effect on reducing the number of crashes. For all intersections, the reduction of crashes is estimated at around 76% for all crashes, i.e. 80% for the crashes with injuries. For different groups of intersections the effects are determined separately.

The percentual distributions of selected sites of cancer cases according to origin, sex and age are compared. Data were obtained from the Registry of Cancer of S. Paulo (School of Public Health of the University of S. Paulo, Brazil). The reference period for inhabitants of Japanese descent was 1969/78 and for those of Brazilian descent, the period was 1969/75. Standardized Proportionate Incidence Ratios (SPIR) with approximate 95% Confidence Intervals (CI) were evaluated using age specific Incidence Ratios of S. Paulo, 1973, as standards. The results agree with findings of previous works on mortality, but show different patterns according to origin. The well known fact that some sub-groups of a population may be different from the overall group is once again brought to the fore. Attention should be drawn to the differences detected for stomach, skin and prostate, in males, and for stomach, skin, cervix and uterus in females.
