This chapter examines faculty leadership from the perspective of the historical context, the role of faculty, the current landscape of faculty leadership, the critical climate of higher education, and looking into the future. The authors provide a plan to foster faculty leadership through the Trilateral Mentorship Model and the CEM Leadership Framework to facilitate institutional leaders in preparing and cultivating the next generation of faculty leaders. Through these models, silos will start to diminish.

In this chapter, priorities of the Black Academy are compared with Boyer's priorities of the professoriate. Understandings of Indigenous knowledge and the roles of the Black Academy are set in an historical context. From the colonial occupation to the 1980s, the “Dark Ages for Indigenous Knowledge,” engagement in Western knowledge was rare. Today, the Black Academy makes a range of contributions to higher education, providing: an Indigenous perspective; an oppositional approach; integrative Indigenous knowledge; contemporary Indigenous knowledge; and pure Indigenous knowledge. These contributions include elements of the scholarships of integration, of application, and of discovery, but pure Indigenous knowledge also involves conservation of knowledge and the role of community in its maintenance, which might be styled a scholarship of preservation; quite the opposite of Boyer's scholarship of discovery. Reflecting on the research paradigm involved, emerging contributions of the Black Academy represent a supercomplex renaissance.

The impact of systematic racism within the education system has been a web that researchers have aimed at detangling for many years. The myriad effects that racial oppression have had on the education system are numerous; one area of overwhelming concern is the impact on incoming students' readiness to do college-level work in math and English language arts. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the historical implications that race has had on systems of higher education and to describe the perceptions of a subset of African American college students in Texas regarding barriers to college access and program completion during times of crisis. The researcher will use the historical context of racial oppression and the establishment of higher education systems. The demographics shifts to provide a lens through which the perceptions of a sample of African American college students' experiences can be viewed. Ultimately, this chapter aims to share the lived experiences of these students and give voice to college success data.

This introduction sets the theoretical and historical context for this special issue on student engagement. Drawing on literatures about audit culture, governance and change in higher education institutions, and theories of practice, institutions and organisation, it sheds light on the current era of English higher education. The Browne Review led to the withdrawal in 2010 of the majority of the government teaching grant for English universities, and it tripled tuition fees in 2012. In the post-Browne era, ‘engagement’ emerged as an organising concept linked in multiple ways to other objects and discourses, in particular university league tables and measures of student satisfaction; and it was swiftly and often unreflexively translated into visions for developing learning and teaching. This special issue focuses on this specific shift in policy and discourse, exploring institutional change and everyday experience, and reflecting on the power and limits of policies.

The article discusses the formation of legislation on higher education in Russia. The sphere of education is the most important condition for the spiritual, professional formation and development of the individual, the social well-being of society, political and economic formation of the state. An analysis of the historical and legal experience of regulating public relations is a prerequisite for building modern legislation in the field of education. The relevance of the study of the Russian features of legislation on higher education of the XVII-XVIII centuries is that modern social relations in the field of education are not fully regulated. This is evidenced by a range of legal problems. Particular attention should be paid to the legislative regulation of certain powers of participants in public relations in the field of higher education, by-law legal regulation, as well as the implementation of certain legal norms of the Federal Law of 29.12.2012 № 273-FZ. The need to resolve these problems updates the relevance of theoretical problems. The answer to the above questions is an analysis of the historical foundations of Russian legislation on higher education. In the pre-revolutionary Russia, sufficient experience in managing higher education, as well as regulating relevant social relations was in place. The completeness of the study of the subject of public relations in the field of education in the historical context is closely related to the analysis of the activities of Russian universities. The article considers the reasons for the appearance of educational institutions in Russia. The first domestic educational institutions appeared at the end of the 18th century - at a historical moment when the expansion of Western European ideas for organizing university education reached the Russian state. Russia had an urgent need to train specialists in the field of public administration - officials, theologians - to strengthen the Orthodox faith, teachers - to educate and promote morality. The authorization of the first regulatory and legal sources in the field of higher education was associated with attempts to create the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy in Moscow. The revival of the ideas of education in Russia objec'tively accelerated the process of creating domestic educational institutions. The further development of legislation on higher education is associated with the implementation of new ideas about the establishment of universities under Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and Catherine the Great . In the final part of the work, it is noted that in connection with the creation of the first educational institution in Russia, the first normative legal act regulating legal relations in the field of higher education is published - "Privilege for the Academy." During the XVII-XVIII centuries Russian legislation on higher education contained personal regulatory legal acts. They were strictly targeted and regulated the activities of the educational institution, its officials, teachers, students, as well as other participants in academic social relations.

O Estado do Rio de Janeiro, juntamente com as universidades públicas (federais e estaduais) sediadas neste estado, iniciou no período 1999-2000 a construção do consórcio Cederj. Neste artigo são apresentados alguns aspectos importantes que influenciaram decisivamente no planejamento inicial desse projeto, tais como o contexto histórico da Educação a Distância no Brasil e em outros países, a situação do ensino superior no Brasil à época, mostrando que a metodologia de Educação a Distância passava por uma transição entre instituições tradicionais? e instituições que iniciavam oferta de cursos com e-learning sob influência das novas tecnologias. É também descrito o desenho acadêmico do projeto inicial, com a distribuição de oferta de cursos semipresenciais no ensino superior nas instituições públicas e os resultados da implementação dos primeiros cursos, que geraram grandes desafios para a continuidade do projeto, considerado um dos casos mais bem-sucedidos dos dias atuais.Palavras-chave: Consórcio Cederj, Fundação Cecierj, História da EaD no Brasil, Darcy Ribeiro, e-learning, Ensino superior, Educação pública. Cederj Consortium: The History of Project ConstructionAbstractThe State of Rio de Janeiro, together with the public universities (federal and state ones) in this referred state, began in 1999-2000 the construction of the Cederj consortium. This article presents some important aspects that influenced decisively the initial planning of this project, such as the historical context of Distance Education in Brazil and in other countries, the situation of higher education in Brazil at the time, showing that the methodology of Distance Education went through a transition between "traditional" institutions and institutions that started offering e-learning courses under the influence of new technologies. O trabalho aborda o contexto histórico da educação superior no Estado da Bahia, no que diz respeito a sua origem e expansão. Este estudo exploratório-descritivo, utilizando-se da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental para caracterizar o surgimento e a expansão da oferta de ensino superior e das universidades no Brasil, contextualizando a origem dessas instituições na Europa e nas Américas, bem como o surgimento e a expansão de universidades e outras instituições de ensino superior no Estado da Bahia. Os resultados evidenciam uma inserção extremamente tardia das universidades no país, apesar do histórico de ensino superior datado do Brasil Colônia, em um cenário de resistências à criação dessas instituições até o ano de 1920, com a criação da Universidade do Rio de Janeiro. Os resultados evidenciam também um atraso histórico na oferta federal no Estado da Bahia, que se limitou a capital, entre os anos de 1946 a 2002, com a presença da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). Além disso, demonstram a iniciativa estratégica de interiorização com criação do sistema estadual baiano de educação superior, formado por quatro universidades estaduais, a partir da década de 1970 (com surgimento da Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana, a primeira). Demonstram ainda que, nos últimos anos, houve significativa expansão da oferta pela iniciativa privada no país, a partir do período de ditadura militar, sendo bem mais lenta no setor público, que apesar disso, implantou novas universidades federais no interior do Estado baiano.

The article identifies the historical context of the piano schools development in China and Ukraine. The factors that formed the basis of the periodization of the studied phenomenon in both countries are identified. The periodization of the piano schools development in China and Ukraine has been carried out. As a result of a comparative analysis of the historical development of piano education in China and Ukraine, the common features of training pianists during a certain historical period were clarified, such as: the influence on the development of piano education of Western European and Russian traditions; national basis for the development of piano schools in both countries; opening of a significant number of art education institutions, including higher education institutions; availability of a large number of music programs of international level; opening of factories for the production of piano; rapid introduction of conservatory piano education.
