SUSANNA GABRIELYAN - THE GENRE OF CORRESPONDENCE: AN ATTEMPT OF LINGO-STYLISTIC STUDY The present article is devoted to the study of the linguostylistic peculiarities of correspondence genre (with special reference to personal letters). As early as in ancient times a specific model of correspondence was developed which clearly defined the requirements for its content and format. From the semantic and structural perspectives the letter is a complete text which is a means of communication overcoming time and space. In the present work a special reference is made to Y. Charents’s correspondence which is one of the interesting manifestations of the poet’s creative mind. Over time correspondence has undergone linguistic, structural and stylistic changes also brought about by scientific and technological advances which provide various opportunities for communication, at the same time, setting new requirements. The article focuses on the comparison, distinction and analysis of various changes, prospects and development trends of written speech.

The present article is a study of radio fatwa in Indonesia with special reference to the Tanya-Jawab genres in radio dakwah. The concept of fatwa has changed over time. Such Islamic Tanya-Jawab programmes broadcast on radio dakwah are important to understand how fatwa is disseminated by means of media, since Islamic Tanya-Jawab programmes can be considered as part of fatwa. These programmes give not only information about Islam, but also become a forum in which interpretation of Islam takes place. This can be seen in the discussion on the Islamic ruling on eating “dog meat”, in which interpretation of Islamic law is highly contested.[Artikel ini mendiskusikan radio fatwa di Indonesia, utamanya tentang program tanya-jawab yang disiarkan radio dakwah.

The Moon, the Night Owner, fascinated over time almost all civilizations on Earth; it is the one that strongly shines in the night, driving back the darkness. The changing appearance of the Moon in its multitude of phases has raised the interest and imagination since ancient times and has influenced the perception of time and space. The Moon was the base of calendar making, of cosmological mythology, oral and visual artistic creation. Moon signs and symbols were preserved in the Romanian people’s traditions and customs. The work includes some heritage from the Neolithic and Copper Age, in conjunction with popular beliefs and customs, as well as the scientific aspects of the Moon that illuminates the Earth and the Romanian soul.

The focus of this chapter is on how languages move and change over time and space. The perceptions of historical linguists have been shaped by what they were observing. During the flowering of comparative linguistics, from the late 19th into the 20th century, the dominant view was that in earlier times when people moved, their languages moved with them, often over long distances, sometimes fast, and that language change was largely internal. That changed in the second half of the 20th century. We now recognize that in recent centuries and millennia, most movements of communities and individuals have been local and shorter. Constant contact between communities resulted in features flowing across language boundaries, especially in crowded and long-settled locations such as most of Central and West Africa. Although communities did mix and people did cross borders, it became clear that language and linguistic features could also move without communities moving.

Witches, women believed to have supernatural powers, have been with us since ancient times. Often they were beautiful, highly sexual women whom men bedded at their own risk. They had magical powers (including that of flight), communed with the dead, and did not conform to patriarchal ideas of womanhood. Their sexuality led them to be classified as succubi, or female spirits who visited men at night and had sexual intercourse with them while they slept. In medieval Christian Europe, witches were refigured as ugly over time, and they became the face of evil. They were believed to fly to their unholy Sabbaths, where they participated in orgies with Satan and sacrificed babies. In truth, most people who were accused of being witches were women caught up in the changing mores and beliefs of the medieval Church, which began to view women as more susceptible to the demonic than men, a Church that needed evidence of their unholy activities, even if extracted by torture.

AbstractWe describe the use of network modeling to capture the shifting spatiotemporal nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. The most common approach to tracking COVID-19 cases over time and space is to examine a series of maps that provide snapshots of the pandemic. A series of snapshots can convey the spatial nature of cases but often rely on subjective interpretation to assess how the pandemic is shifting in severity through time and space. We present a novel application of network optimization to a standard series of snapshots to better reveal how the spatial centres of the pandemic shifted spatially over time in the mainland United States under a mix of interventions. We find a global spatial shifting pattern with stable pandemic centres and both local and long-range interactions. Metrics derived from the daily nature of spatial shifts are introduced to help evaluate the pandemic situation at regional scales. We also highlight the value of reviewing pandemics through local spatial shifts to uncover dynamic relationships among and within regions, such as spillover and concentration among states. This new way of examining the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of network-based spatial shifts offers new story lines in understanding how the pandemic spread in geography.
