Abstract. Hiking is one of the most popular outdoor sports activities in Hungary. Despite not having many mountainous areas, a wide network of hiking trails crosses the country’s landscapes. As online tourist maps and thematic mobile applications become more and more popular among hikers, the role of paper-based, analogue tourist maps decreases. However, no thematic application has been issued that contains detailed surveyed (or crowdsourced) data on attractions or the natural circumstances (coverage, difficulty) for a certain area in Hungary yet. Nature tourism in the Bükkalja Region, Hungary is mostly based on geological-geomorphological features that are completed with cultural facilities. The length of the hiking trail system is more than 370 km in the examined 354 km2 large sample area. We have developed an OS mobile application that offers guidance for tourists based on four basic pillars: the physical condition of the trails, the attractions along a trail, dangerous trail segments and hiking trail marking quality. These pillars are visualized with an OpenLayers-based online map. The result is a multi-purpose smartphone application. Its main aim is to offer a planning platform for tourists by examining the difficulty of the trails and designating the attractions to visit. There is information on the most important attractions of the area: cultural and geoscientific sites are also presented. We also encourage users to report changes to the map data content via the crowdsourcing menu. These comments and remarks are continuously checked for validity and the database is modified with the use of them.

Modern technologies surround people every day, including seniors. The aim of this pilot study was to create a maximally user-friendly mobile application in order to meet older users’ individual needs. The research sample consisted of 13 older individuals at the age of 55+ years with a mean age of 67 years, living in the Czech Republic. The key assessment tools of this pilot study were the developed application and usability testing. The findings confirmed that the newly developed mobile application for teaching English met the needs of cognitively healthy seniors, and was acceptable and feasible. In addition, it indicated what technical (e.g., visual interface or easy navigation) and pedagogical (e.g., an instructional manual or adjusting to seniors’ learning pace or clear instructions) aspects should be strictly followed when designing such an educational smartphone application. In addition, the authors of this pilot study provide several implications for pedagogical practice. Further research should include more empirical studies aimed at the exploration of educational mobile applications for older generation groups with respect to meeting their individual needs in order to enhance their overall well-being. However, such studies are, nowadays, very rare.

Public bus transportation has become an integral part of society, but the disrup-tion of bus services is one of the major concerns. This project presents the devel-opment of Smart Bus Transportation using Augmented Reality (TRANSPAR) that was developed on a mobile application. One of the major issues with public transportation is on real-time responsiveness. Most bus schedules are presented online but customers still faced many failures. Some bus schedules are not updat-ed when changes happened through time. Some existing bus schedules system is fixed to the bus stations. This research is to identify the bus schedules and its routes characteristics. A 3D AR animation based on identified characteristics was designed using the Unity 3D image marker detection on a mobile Android plat-form. A smartphone application was developed using Vuforia and Google Fire-base. TRANSPAR shows an AR mobile application for acquiring the bus time-tables. The phone camera is applied for marker image detection and scanning the bus station’s images. AR and normal image scanner were designed. Google Fire-base Database is used to retrieve and store each timetable data for every bus sta-tion. Analysis of interactivity and benefits of TRANSPAR shows about 90% agreed on the use of AR and more than 76% agreed on its functionality based on 50 taken samples. This shows a positive impact on the designed TRANSPAR. The research is significant to encourage and experience the public with new tech-nological application for public transportation and it impact the society.

Mobility as a service (MaaS) is proposed to encourage travelers to choose sustainable mobility options and reduce use of individual car. In the future, mobility services based on autonomous vehicles (AVs) are also incorporated into MaaS. The objective of our work is to elaborate the concept of mobile application, aiding the MaaS based on AVs. We applied a system engineering process-oriented approach to determine the information system components, the functions as well as input and output data. Functions of back-end information system operation and front-end interface of application have been identified, as well as the information flows have been modeled. We highlighted the main differences between MaaS and MaaS based on AVs. We found that recording of event-based points and feedback management are regarded as pivot functions in this self-travel service. Our results facilitate the development of smartphone application for the MaaS based on AVs.

The assessment of patients likely to undergo lung resection surgery is a multidisciplinary approach involving pulmonologists, surgeons and anaesthesiologists. In thoracic surgery, medical operability is also a calculation of postoperative lung function. A mobile application – PreParAPP MSD – to calculate postoperative lung function has been developed with the endorsement of the Italian Society of Anaesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care and with the unconditional support of MSD Italia. Thanks to a simple graphic interface, the calculation becomes fast and intuitive, while the possibility of storing and sharing data in an analytical and computerised way with other clinicians might help with the full assessment of patients without forcing them to undergo several medical examinations. These simple calculated parameters are performed by a minority of clinicians, generally anaesthesiologists. In our facility, there is a team involved in the perioperative evaluation of lung resection surgery (13 pulmonologists, 9 surgeons and 5 anaesthesiologists). In order to evaluate the possible Awareness towards postoperative lung function calculation better, we organised an internal survey with 27 clinicians who are members of such a team before and after the introduction of the PreParAPP MSD. It was found that after the introduction of PreParAPP MSD, the percentage of clinicians involved in postoperative lung function calculation rose from 18% to 70%. The implementation of a digital tool may help to improve guideline adherence, in accordance with other experiences in which such tools represented the start for various quality improvement purposes throughout the medical field.
