The Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town (UCT) recently acquired a powerful mini-computer with interactive terminals and a range of educational and business software. This paper applies a particular model of the learning process in order to choose the most effective computer-based teaching methods for the MBA programme. It is argued that this choice must take into account characteristics of the learner, the learning environment, the material being learned and the stage of the learning process. These elements and the current status of computer-aided instruction on the UCT MBA programme are described and basic policy guidelines are presented.

Kata Kunci : E-Learning, TreeView, SLC, Asynchronous learning[En]Some developed countries implemented computer and ICT in learning environment both intranet and internet, and in the form of Computer Aided Learning (CAL) and Intelligent Tutorial System (ITS). Based on the observations, some of high school education institutions in Indonesia have utilized computer facilities for learning purposes, such as using e-learning tools. In this research we built a Self Learning Center (SLC) software that aims to support the learning process and monitor the progrss of students learning on-line using Asyncronous Learning method. The e-learning application is built using tree view as a tool of learning process. It was created using Macromedia Dreamwaver MX, PHP programming language, Java Script and MySQL database.Based on the results of implementation, it can be concluded that the SLC e-learning application can help students and teachers to swift from paper-based materials to computer based. In addition SLC can be used as one of the facilities to present the material structured using tree view and to see the results of student progress by presenting statistics and graphs

Computer aided learning (CAL) is a terminology used for delivering educational experiences electronically. CAL materials may use any combination of teaching techniques including question and answer, simulation, multimedia, didacticism (tending to convey information), or problem solving. CAL environments increasingly are using a combination of interactive multimedia and virtual reality (VR) such as text, audio and video, graphics and images, two and three dimensional animations, and simulations in presenting learning materials. Interactive refers to the way the user engages in these environments to enhance his/her learning process.

In our research, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of games-based learning within a computer aided design and manufacture undergraduate module. Although widely used in a selection of subject areas, there appears to be limited application of games-based learning in engineering and technology. Its effectiveness as a learning or training tool, especially in Mechanical Engineering subject area, has been unclear. This research follows on from previously presented research in novel approaches in delivery of engineering education. Games-based learning has a potential to enhance student experience and learning process. In order to evaluate the outcomes of games-based learning approach and observe its effect on students’ performance, a simple in-class game on assembly topics was designed and implemented as part of a laboratory exercise. There were two groups of students considered in this case study: the student group ‘playing’ an assembly game (experimental group) and the group which did not experience games-based learning (control group). The results of the assessment element in the experimental group were compared to the control group. Our work evaluates both the qualitative and quantitative data established from computer aided design assembly delivery using the game, and delivery using conventional method. In addition, the comparisons were made between the entry level in to Higher Education in terms of tariff points level (academic score) of participants and educational background. It thus concludes on the effectiveness of the games-based learning process in Mechanical Engineering Education.

AbstractThe article summarizes the experience of laboratory technical subjects teaching methodologies using a number of software products. The main aim is to modernize the teaching process in accordance with the requirements of today – based on information technology. Increasing of the study attractiveness and effectiveness is due to the introduction of Computer Aided (CA) technologies in the learning process. This paper discussed the areas where individual CA system used and concrete examples used in the education process. They are CAD system Catia V5, FluidSIM created and simulates the pneumatics and electropneumatic schemes and circles, software witness used for simulation of material flow planning and RobotStudio that illustrates operated Robot in his own manipulated area. Environment using CA systems are briefly presented in each chapter.

Computer-aided assessment (CAA) is traditionally seen as an efficient approach to testing large numbers of students by utilizing objective questions with the emphasis firmly on measurement. This chapter describes the development of a system that also seeks to contribute to improving student learning by enhancing the quality, sophistication, and authenticity of the assessments delivered. The system supports students and tutors through the learning process by providing diagnostic and directed feedback to learners and a clear measurement of their true ability to the teacher. The chapter also looks at current work focused on developing assessment systems that can assess higher order skills and begin to blur the boundary between learning and assessment.

The objective of this paper is to analyze and describe computer-aided design training and its aspects. A traditional and technology-supported learning process is described with the purpose of analyzing computer-aided design training and provision of knowledge assessment, and identifying problems in the CAD system training. The article analyzes the learning process by defining its objectives, the necessity of student characterization, motivation analysis, the necessity of feedback and other basic components; it analyzes the training methods, provides insight into technology-supported learning process, identifies the provision and types of computer-aided design training and knowledge assessment as well as describes feedback and its role in the training process.Elaboration of an intellectual learning system would solve the problems associated with lack of feedback, lack of adaptivity and the emergence of plagiarism (since only the end result of the design is subjected to the test and not the whole process of creating it, it is easy to pass another’s work for one’s own). A solution to these problems would facilitate the work of the teacher and improve student learning outcomes.

Higher education has an important contribution to acquiring the knowledge, skills and social competences of staff employed in various organizations. The main goal of the study is to exhibit that the use of laboratories in the didactic process contributes significantly to improve the efficiency of the learning process by combining the practical side with the theoretical side. In the article, to illustrate the validity of such a thesis, the effects of using modern IT tools in the preparation of managerial staff were characterized, with particular emphasis on audience of economic studies.
