Tablets are the most commonly prescribed dosage form as offer a convenient form of drug administration provides dosage uniformity from tablet to tablet, stable over extended and diverse storage conditions, can be produced on high-speed compression, labelling, and packaging equipment. Advancements in technology and modification in standard compressed tablet are to achieve better acceptability as well as bioavailability. Various types of newer and more efficient tablets are developed to create a delivery system that is relatively simple to administration. In one sense osmotic pump systems are another type of membrane-controlled release drug delivery system and work in the following way. Drug is incorporated in a tablet core which is water soluble, and which will solubilize or suspend the drug in the presence of water. Also, a multi-layer tablet dosage form over a more conventional mono-layer tablet is useful. In FDDS Gastro retentive dosage form improves bioavailability, therapeutic efficacy and allows a reduction in the dose because of steady therapeutic levels of drug. The another system is MADDS Mucoadhesion is commonly used to describe an interaction between the mucin layer, which lines the entire GI tract, and a bio adhesive polymer, which could be natural or synthetic in origin. An ideal controlled drug delivery system is one which delivers the drugs at a predetermined rate, locally or systematically, for a specified period of time and an ideal targeted drug delivery system is the one which delivers the drugs only to its sites of action and not to the non-targeted organs or tissues. So, in this review article we will study the basic fundamentals of tablets their technologies, and types of systems with available marketed products of various dosage forms.

The present research work was carried out to Formulate and evaluation of bilayer tablet dosage form for the treatment of Hypertension. The objective of this study to compare the specific characteristics of Metoprolol [beta selective (cardio selective) adrenoreceptor blocking agent] and Hydrochlorothiazide (Thiazide Diuretics]) in order to design stable formulation. It can be concluded that bilayer tablet were successfully formulated to achieve immediate release of Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)  and tailored release of Metoprolol (MPL)by using Dual Release Drug Absorption System(DUREDAS technology). Both drugs were found to be stable in Bilayer tablet formulation and were found to be stable for few months. This bilayer tablet dosage form increases the stability which may reduce loss and cost of formulation. It improves the benefits of producer, retailer, and patients. Recently, greater attention has been focused on development of bilayer tablet formulations. Over the past 30 years, the expenses and complications involved in marketing new drug entities have increased with concomitant recognition of therapeutic advantages of conventional drug delivery system. Several pharmaceutical companies are currently developing bi-layer tablets, for a variety of reasons: patent extension, efficient pharmacological effect, better patient compliance, etc. Bilayer tablet is becoming new approach for the successful drug delivery system and for better stability in combination. Bilayer tablets can be primary option to avoid chemical incompatibilities between APIs by physical separation. Objective: Cancer is the deadliest disease affecting the life of the people all around the world. Colon cancer is the cancer which is affecting the colon region it is the last part of the gastrointestinal tract which is mainly responsible for the absorption of water and minerals from the food debris. Colon cancer is the second most cancer creating death in the world. It affects both male and female equally. Curcumin is a flavonoid used from decades for the treatment of various ailments including cancer. This present work is to formulate Self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery (SNEDDS) system with the help of curcumin for colon delivery. Materials and Methods: Nanoemulsion was prepared using the curcumin pre-concentrated self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system, with which tablets were prepared and coated with pectin followed by the evaluation test such as in vitro dissolution and cell line studies. Results: Solubility profile of curcumin was found with a greater impact using Capmul MCM and Labrafac PG which is then added with the surfactants and co-surfactants and were converted into Nano-droplets. F1 formulation was selected after carrying out the characterisation studies and converted into a tablet dosage form and then coated with pectin, in vitro studies depicted a release of 80% in pH 6.8. Conclusions: Formulation of a solid self-Nano emulsifying drug delivery system using curcumin was successfully carried out. From the results obtained, the formulation (F1) was selected for the formation of the tablets and the further experimental part is carried out. The tablet dosage form is then coated with pectin and used for targeting the colon cancer cells for its treatment.

Many chemical entities and nutraceuticals are poor water soluble and show high lipophilicity. It’s difficult to formulate them into oral formulation because of its low aqueous solubility which ultimately affects bioavailability. To enhance the bioavailability of such drugs compounds, self microemulsifying drug delivery system is the reliable drug delivery system. In this system the drug is incorporated in the isotropic system and formulated as unit dosage form. Self microemulsifying drug delivery system is the novel emulsified system composed of anhydrous isotropic mixture of oils, surfactant, and co solvent and sometimes co surfactant. Drug is directly dispersed into the entire gastro intestinal tract with continuous peristaltic movement and drug is available in the solution form of microemulsion, absorbed through lymphatic system and bypasses the dissolution step. Hence they increase the patient compliance. The excipients are selected on basis of construction of ternary phase diagram. Self micro-emulsifying drug delivery system is very useful for drug in which drug dissolution is rate limiting step. This review describes the novel approaches and evaluation parameters of the self microemulsifying drug delivery system towards different classic drugs, proteins-peptides, and nutraceuticals in various oral microemulsion compositions and microstructures.

Drug delivery for a long time has been a major problem in the pharmaceutical field. The development of a new Nano-carrier system called nanosponge has shown the potential to solve the problem. Nanosponge has a porous structure and can entrap the drug in it. It can carry both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. They also provide controlled release of the drugs and can also protect various substances from degradation. Nanosponge can increase the solubility of drugs and can also be formulated into an oral, topical and parenteral dosage form. The current review explores different preparation techniques, characterization parameters, as well as various applications of nanosponge. Various patents related to nanosponge drug delivery system have been discussed in this study.

Objective: To enhance solubility and dissolution rate of budesonide through development of solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (S-SNEDDS). Methods: Liquid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (L-SNEDDS) were prepared and ternary phase diagram was constructed using Origin pro 8. Liquid self-nanoemulsifying formulation LF2 having 20% oil and 80% of surfactant/co-surfactant was optimized from the three formulations (LF1-LF3) to convert in to solid, through various characterization techniques like self-emulsification, in vitro drug release profile and drug content estimation. The prepared L-SNEDDS converted into S-SNEDDS, SF1-SF6 by adsorption technique using Aerosil 200, Neusilin US2, and Neusilin UFL2 to improve flowability, compressibility and stability. Results: Formulation LF2 exhibited globule size of 82.4 nm, PDI 0.349 and Zeta potential -28.6 mV with drug indicating the stability and homogeneity of particles. The optimized formulation SF4 containing Neusilin UFL2 was characterized by DSC, FTIR, X-Ray diffraction studies and found no incompatibility and no major shifts were noticed. Formulation SF4 released 100 % drug in 20 min against pure drug release of 47 % in 60 min. Regardless of the form (i.e. liquid or solid) similar performance of emulsification efficiency is observed. Conclusion: The results demonstrated that the technique of novel solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system can be employed to enhance the solubility and dissolution rate of poorly water-soluble drug budesonide.

A drug delivery system is a system in which a drug is released from a pharmaceutical dosage form to achieve the desired pharmacological effect. The system consists of conventional and new drug delivery systems. In the new drug delivery system, polymers are used as a matrix. The aim of this article is to find out and understand the formulation and evaluation of natural ingredients that have anticancer activity with different dosage forms and the basis for developing these dosages. Journal searches in this review came from primary data sources on the internet. Journal searches were carried out using a search engine such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. In recent years, natural products, such as extract, fraction, and isolate, are getting attention to help treat cancer. Because of their low solubility and bioavailability, the effectiveness tends to be lower than synthetic drugs. Therefore, a dosage form with a new drug delivery system was made to overcome the problem. The dosage forms commonly made are patch, suspension, powder, and emulsion with a new drug delivery system. To ensure the product that has been made met the requirements, they need to be evaluated with various methods like In vitro Study, morphology study, particle size study, and others. Cancer treatment using the natural product can be delivered through several dosage forms like patch, suspension, powder, and emulsion, with specific formulation and manufacturing methods based on several considerations such as natural ingredients properties, dosage form selection, excipient properties, and the purpose of the formulation. Dosage forms that has been made are then evaluated using several evaluation methods.
