There has been an interest in alternative sources in rabbit feeding. Therefore, the current study aimed to estimate the health status, growth performance, hemato-biochemical, and histological picture of some important internal organs in growing Newziland rabbits as a result of replacing different levels of Panicum maximum (PM) in its pelleted diet. A total of 35 weaned rabbits (20 males and 15 females) aged 5 weeks were purchased with an average body weight of 839.7 ± 7.05 g and 771.20 ± 9.19 g for males and females, respectively. Randomly, five equal rabbit groups were formed (7 rabbits in each group). The first group (control) was fed a basal diet without PM. The second, third, fourth, and fifth groups were fed pelleted diets containing PM with a replacing percent of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of clover hay, respectively. All groups were fed ad libitum of pelleted feed for two months. The blood was aspirated individually three times, including at the beginning of the experiment (as zero time), after one month, and at the end of the experiment, respectively. The whole blood was used for the measurement of hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit percentage, erythrocytes, and total leukocyte counts. At the experimental end, in each group, 3 male rabbits were sacrificed and their internal organs including liver, kidney, cecum, and rectum were collected for histopathology. The live body weight was significantly affected by sex where males were heavier than females, also feed conversion ratio, growth rate, and feed intake were significantly affected by feeding on different levels of PM. Blood hemoglobin, hematocrit, and the total leukocytic count had a non-significant effect while the erythrocyte count increased significantly in all experimental groups. There were insignificant changes in plasma total protein, albumin, globulin, ALT, AST, creatinine, and glucose concentrations when different levels of PM were added. furthermore, the plasma total cholesterol and triglycerides were significantly decreased in rabbits fed PM, 75% and 100% when compared with 25%, 50%, and control groups. Finally, replacement PM instead of clover hay in pelleted diets till 75% was found to be the safety and optimum percentage for biological and healthy rabbits.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of methionine supplementation on feed intake, nutrient digestibility and growth performance of growing rabbit. Sixteen weaned crossbred New Zealand White (NZW) growing rabbits (30-35 d) were distributed into four treatment groups having four replications in each group using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Basal diet composed of green grass (dhal grass) and concentrate mixture which was offered ad libitum basis for 56 days period. Four levels of methionine such as 0.0% (control), 0.15%, 0.25%, and 0.35% were supplemented randomly to rabbits. Results showed that supplementation of methionine did not affect green grass intake. Cumulative as well as daily concentrate and DM intake were significantly (p<0.05) higher for all methionine groups than control group. Final body weight gain as well as daily, weekly and cumulative body weight gains were improved significantly with increasing level of methionine. It was found that methionine had significant (p<0.01) effect on digestibility of DM, CP, NFE and EE but CF digestibility did not differ significantly. Digestibility was improved with increasing the level of methionine. Feed conversion ratio also decreased significantly with methionine supplementation, and 0.25% methionine group showed the best performance among the four treatments. AbstractThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the administration of a species-specific probiotic (Lactobacillus animalis SB310, Lactobacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei SB137 and Bacillus coagulans SB117 in a 30:35:35 ratio, respectively; 1.8 × 1010 CFU/g of powder) on gut microbial balance, immune response and growth performance of Holstein female calves during the first month of life. Twenty-two calves were divided into two experimental groups from 2 to 28 days of life: control (C), fed with milk replacer and concentrate as a basal diet, and treatment (T), fed C diet plus 1 g/calf/day of probiotic powder for the first month of age. Faecal and blood samples were individually collected and analysed weekly. Individual faecal score was recorded daily and general health score was calculated at the end of the trial. Cell-mediated immune response was evaluated by skin test at 7 and 28 days of life. Milk replacer and concentrate intake were recorded daily, while body weight and biometrical parameters were recorded at 2, 8, 14, 21 and 28 days of life, thus average daily gain and feed conversion rate were calculated. During the first week of treatment, lower blood eosinophil percentage (0.05% vs. 0.22%; P≤0.01) was found in T group, while basophils were higher in T than C group at the end of the trial (0.21% vs. 0.16%; P≤0.05). Higher faecal lactic acid bacteria (LAB)/E. coli ratio on day 28 of life (3.73 log CFU/g vs. 2.02 log CFU/g; P≤0.05) and lower incidence of diarrhoea were found in the treated group (63.30% vs. 70.71%; P=0.05). Body weight (48.92 kg vs. 46.92 kg; P≤0.05), total concentrate intake (14.77 kg vs. 12.56 kg on dry matter basis; P≤0.05), and heart girth (81.16 cm vs. 78.49 cm; P≤0.05) were significantly higher in T group. The administration of the probiotic during the first month of life improved gut microbiota and increased the growth performance and some biometric parameters of calves.

Two trials were conducted to evaluate the inclusion of glycerine, glucose, or sucrose in broiler starter diets to overcome negative effects of delayed feed access. In trial 1, 2160 newly hatched chicks (mixed sexed) were randomly assigned to two feeding programs (immediate vs. 36 h delayed feed access). Nine starter diets prepared with crude glycerine, glucose, or sucrose fed at 0%, 4%, or 8% levels were fed during the first 14 d post hatch (PH). In trial 2, 720 male and 720 female newly hatched chicks were randomly assigned to two feeding programs (immediate vs. 48 h delayed feed access). Starter diets fed during the first 14 d of feed access, consisted of a control, 8% glycerine, or 8% glucose. In both trials, a common grower and finisher diet were fed during days 14–24 and 25–35, respectively. Body weight and feed consumed were measured on 7, 14, 24, and 35 d. In trial 1, all 8% diet-fed birds were heavier compared with the control on day 35 PH (2259 vs. 2198 g, P < 0.01). Birds fed glycerine starter diets had improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) during 22–35 d (P < 0.01). In trial 2, glycerine diet resulted in heavier birds after 35 d of feed access, compared with birds fed control and glucose diets immediately after hatch (2373 vs. 2276 g, P < 0.01). Dietary inclusion of 8% glycerine can assist newly hatched broiler chicks to overcome delayed feed access induced growth suppression.

A feeding trial of 42 days was conducted to discern the effect of dietary incorporation of giloe and cinnamon powder on growth performance in commercial broilers .One hundred and twenty, day old Vencobb broiler chicks were procured and divided randomly into 6 treatment groups with 2 replicates of 10 chicks each viz., T1 (control) were fed basal diet whereas in treatment group T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6, basal diet was incorporated with 1% giloe, 2% giloe, 1% cinnamon, 2% cinnamon and combination of 1% giloe and 1% cinnamon, respectively. During starter phase (0-21 days), the body weight gain was significantly (P£0.05) higher in T3incorporated with 2% giloe. The feed conversion ratio was significantly (P£0.05) improved in broiler chicks fed diet incorporated with 1% giloe (T2). The performance index was significantly better in T2 and T3 compared to other groups. During finisher phase (22-42 days), the feed conversion ratio was significantly better in T2 and T6 compared to other groups. Performance index was significantly higher in T2 incorporated with 1% giloe. During the whole experimental period (0-42 days), incorporation of 1 % giloe improved broiler performance in terms of body weight, weight gain, feed conversion ratio and performance index. The average body weight gain of T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 were 1408.8, 1580.2, 1540.3, 1517.2, 1474.4 and 1551.0g, respectively. It can be concluded that giloe and/or cinnamon in combination can be fed to broilers to improve growth performance.

A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was comprised 2x3 factorial arrangements of two breeds (DYL and local breed) and three different lysine levels. The 18 weeks old, nine castrated DYL and nine local breed were randomly allocated in each individual pen to six treatment groups with three replicates into 18 pens. Two breeds of pigs (DYL and local breed) were exposed to the three different dietary treatments, L1- basal diet without lysine supplementation, L2- basal diet with 0.95% total lysine for finisher and L3- basal diet with 1.45% total lysine for finisher. The growth performance and back fat thickness were determined for finishing pigs. Significantly better body weight, weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and lower back fat were observed in pigs fed L2 but did not significantly differ from those fed L3. Otherwise, diets without lysine supplementation (L1) showed no better effect on the growth performances of both DYL and local breeds. It could be noted that L2 was the best level to obtain optimal growth performances and feed efficiency. Between the two breeds, growth performances of DYL were superior over that of local breed. Back fat thicknesses of DYL were also thinner than that of local breed. The interactions were observed between lysine levels and different breeds regard for final body weight, cumulative gain and feed conversion ratio. It was noticeable that lysine supplementation helped to improve growth performance and reduce back fat thickness of both local breed and DYL crossed breed. The result also showed that a comparison of the two different breed revealed the improved performances in DYL crossed breed rather than that of local breed.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of AZOMITE® as source of natural minerals on growth performance of commercial broiler. A total of 1,020 day-old Cobb 500 male broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 5 dietary treatments with 6 replications per treatment having 34 chicks in each pen. The five dietary treatments were: (i) basal diet without AZOMITE®, (ii) basal diet with 0.25% AZOMITE®, (iii) basal diet with 0.50% AZOMITE® which was recommended by manufacturer, (iv) basal diet with 0.75% AZOMITE® and (v) basal diet with 1.0% AZOMITE®. Broilers were reared in open-sided gable type house for a period of 32 days. Results showed that the supplementation of AZOMITE® had significant effect on growth performance (p<0.01) of broilers. Live body weight (LBW), body weight gain (BWG), average daily gain (ADG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), European efficiency factor (EEF) and gain cost of the birds fed various levels of AZOMITE® were significantly improved as compared to the control. Meat characteristics results indicated that the treatments had no significant effect on dressing percent, thigh, drumsticks and breast percentage among the dietary groups. Taken together, it may be concluded that the supplementation of AZOMITE® in commercial broiler at 0.50 to 1.0% improved live weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio of commercial broilers. Background The benefits of probiotics being used in animals are well-documented via evidenced growth performance improvement and positive modulations of gut microbiota (GM). Thus, a combination of effective microorganisms (EM) has been frequently used in animal production, including broilers. However, there are only very limited reports of EM on the growth performance and the modulation in GM of partridge shank broiler chicks. Methods We attempted to evaluate the effects of a basal diet with the addition of an EM mixture on the growth performance and gut microbiome of the chicks. A total of 100 ten-day-old female partridge shank broiler chicks were randomly divided into two groups of 50 chicks each, of which, one group fed with EM supplementation in the basal diet (designated as EM-treated group), the other group just fed with a basal diet (referred as to non-EM treated group or control group). The body weight, daily feed intake, daily gain, feed conversion ratio and other growth parameters were observed and compared between EM-treated and non-EM-treated chicks, and the gut microbiota was profiled by 16S rRNA-based next generation sequencing (NGS). Results EM-treated chicks showed significantly increased performances in body weight (BW), average daily gain (ADG) and reduced feed conversion ratio (FCR). Histological observation indicated that dietary supplementation of EM significantly increased the villus heights (VH) and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth (VH/CD), while decreased the CD of jejunum, ilea, and ceca. The results of 16S rRNA-based gut microbiota analyses showed that Firmicutes accounted for the most of the relative abundance (63.24%∼92.63%), followed by Proteobacteria (0.62%∼23.94%), Bacteroidetes (0.80%∼7.85%), Actinobacteria (0.06%∼13.69%) and others in both EM-treated and non-EM-treated broiler chicks. The addition of EM could not alter the alpha diversity of gut microbiota. Compared with the non-EM-treated chicks, the abundances of bad bacteria in the phyla of Firmicutes, Euryarchaeota, and Ruminococcus were dramatically decreased in that of EM-treated chicks, while the abundances of good bacteria in the phyla of Actinobacteria and WPS-2 were significantly increased. Conclusions The supplementation of EM in feed could improve the growth performance and positively influence the morphological characteristics of the intestine, and ameliorate the community and structure of the intestinal microbiota of partridge shank broiler chicks.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the effect of body weight clustering and betaine supplementation to adequate nutrient diet on the growth performance of quails. Nine hundred seven-day-old quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were allotted to a 3×2 factorial completely randomized design. Three bodyweight clusters included Random (21.1±1.2 g), Low (17.9±0.4 g), and High (22.4±0.4 g). Each bodyweight cluster was fed a diet without (0%) and with betaine supplementation (0.14%), resulting in six combination treatments. Each treatment consisted of five replicates of 30 quails. The basal diet was formulated with sufficient protein (22%) and metabolizable energy (2800 kcal/kg). The observed variables included feed intake, body weight, feed conversion, and protein and energy efficiency ratio. The results revealed that there was no interaction between body weight and betaine supplementation on all variables. The High body weight group consumed more feed and produced a higher body weight on 42 days of age than other treatments (p<0.05). However, betaine supplementation did not affect all growth trait variables. In conclusion, betaine supplementation to nutrient adequate diet is not effective in improving growth performance of quails divergently selected based on body weight.

Otherwise, diets without lysine supplementation (L1) showed no better effect on the growth performances of both DYL and local breeds. It could be noted that L2 was the best level to obtain optimal growth performances and farm efficiency. Between the two breeds, body weight of DYL was superior over that of local breed. The interactions were observed between lysine levels and different breeds regard for body weight and cumulative weight gain. To wrap up, it was noticeable that crystalline lysine supplementation helped to improve growth performance in both breeds.

This research was conducted to determine growth performance of SO beef catlle fed rice straw added with concentrate with different levels of RUP, RUP used was soybean meal protected with 0.8% formaldehyde. Thirty six SO bull were divided into two groups at random, group that fed low and high RUP. Feed in the form of rice straw and concentrate with a ratio of 30:70 in dry matter (DM). Cattle fed low RUP get concentrate containing DM 91.22%, crude protein (CP) 19.38%, RUP 33.05%, and TDN 51.71%, whereas cattle fed high RUP get a concentrate with DM 91.13%, CP 19.40%, RUP 41.13%, and TDN 51.57%. Water was given unlimited. The nutrient intake and growth performance parameters analyzed using independent sample t-test, average daily gain was analyzed by ANCOVA with initial body weight as covariates. Intake RDP and RUP had significant effect (P<0.05) between cattle fed low and high RUP. Nutrient intake (DM, CP, TDN) and growth performance (average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion, feed cost per gain) showed not significant between cattle fed low and high RUP. The conclusion were the increased of RUP levels could improved growth performance of SO beff cattle.
