The paper aims to investigate the factors affecting firm capital structure in the context of Vietnam. The research sample includes 290 non-financial listed companies on Vietnamese stock market. This study applied Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to explain the research results. The paper investigates six factors influencing on firm capital structure including return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), firm size, tangible assets, risks, and growth. The empirical results show that return on assets, tangible assets, risks, and growth have a statistically significant positive effect on the firm capital structure while return on equity has a statistically significant negative effect on the firm capital structure. In addition, when dividing companies into sectors, the study realized that determinants of capital structure in some sectors are consistent with results for entire sample. Finally, firm size has the same impact on capital structure in oil & gas companies and material companies whereas it is not statistically significant for other companies. These evidences provide a new insight to managers on how to determine the reasonable capital structure.

This study uses a structural model to analyze the co-determinants of capital structure and stock returns. Applying a generalized method of moments (GMM) model to a panel dataset for 100 nonfinancial firms for the period 2006– 10, our results indicate that both leverage and stock returns affect each other but that the former has a dominant effect on the latter. The results illustrate that profitability, growth, and liquidity are significant determinants of leverage and stock returns. Profitability negatively affects leverage and positively affects stock returns. Growth has a positive effect, while liquidity has a negative effect on leverage and stock returns. Firm size does not have any significant effect on either capital structure or stock returns.

AbstractThis study empirically investigates the impact of bank profitability, as a complementary measure of financial development, on growth in the Arab countries between 1985 and 2016. Using a generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation to test the impact of the bank profitability on growth, this study utilises two variables in the econometric model which are return on assets and return on equity. This study reveals that both variables of bank profitability are positive and significant. This confirms that the bank profitability, beside other financial development variables, has positive impact on the growth. This study points out some important implications based on this result.

The aim of this paper is not only to determine and compare the nature of capital structure but also its effect on company performance of engineering industry of USA and Bangladesh. We utilize a panel data methodology based on a sample of 34 listed engineering companies of Bangladesh on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and a mixture of 34 (small, medium and large) engineering companies listed in NASDAQ in USA during the period of study from 2012 to 2019. Our empirical results indicate that the capital structure of engineering industry of USA and that of Bangladesh is different. Also, we demonstrate that capital structure has negative effect on company profitability of engineering industry of USA. Capital structure presents a negative effect on Earning per Share and Return on Assets (ROA) and positive influence on Return on Equity (ROE) and Tobin’s Q of engineering industry of Bangladesh. We conclude that the impact of capital structure on company’s profitability by only one sector and then compare the findings to know the real picture of the link. Investors, auditors, analysts and practitioners should consider many factors to examine the banking performance. Our results from this study may relate to Asian countries with similarities in engineering industry to that in Bangladesh.

Purpose- The study was conducted to examine the effect of capital structure on profitability. Variables of the capital structure are Long-term Debt to total assets (LTD), Short-term Debt to total assets (STD) and Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) while profitability is proxied by Return on Assets (ROA. Research is conducted on all Non-Financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the period 2014-2016. Methods- Use the Purposive Random Sampling technique to take samples. Samples taken from Bloomberg. The sample used amounted to 175 companies using multiple regression analysis SPSS program assistance. Finding- The results of the study note that LTD and STD have a significant negative effect on ROA. DER has not a significant positive effect on ROA.

The green transformation of the manufacturing industry is crucial for high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and environmental regulation and technological innovation may play key roles. Considering the undesirable output of the manufacturing industry, this paper adopted the undesirable-SE-SBM Model to measure the green transformation efficiency, which can reflect the core transformation performance. On this basis, this paper respectively adopted system generalized method of moments (SYS-GMM) and differential generalized method of moments (DIF-GMM) to explore the driving factors of green transformation, which fully considered the lag variable of transformation efficiency. The estimated results of green transformation showed that the efficiency of the Yangtze River Economic Belt has maintained an overall growth trend, while that of the eastern regions was higher than that of the central and western regions. The regional difference of transformation efficiencies showed a trend of convergence first and then expansion, however, a few regions such as Chongqing have achieved leapfrog development. The estimated results of driving factors showed the first-stage lag affected the green transformation positively, while the second-stage lag had a significantly negative effect. The ratchet effect and cumulative effect led to the continued efforts on green transformation, however, the timeliness of policy might cause a rebound in practice. As mentioned in green paradox, the environmental regulation had a negative effect, which might bring compliance costs. The technology innovation level indeed promoted the green transformation of manufacturing, but the scientific research investment did not exert the expected positive effect, while the utilization of many research funds lacked market orientation. Economic development level had a negative effect on green transformation, and it would play a positive effect only if it reached a certain stage. The industrialization and urbanization affected the efficiency positively, and the external dependence degree had a significant negative effect. It was not clear whether foreign direct investment (FDI) brought a pollution haven or pollution halo effect. In view of these conclusions, local governments should strictly enforce environmental regulations, build the regional green innovation system, improve marketization of research funds, optimize the export structure, and promote new urbanization and new industrialization.
