The aim of this study was to establish the role of organizational design in the organizational ambidexterity - performance relationship among large manufacturing firms (LMFs) in Kenya. The studies linking ambidexterity to organizational performance are few and with mixed findings. The few studies indicate that there is no clear ambidexterity - organizational performance relationship. The research was founded on dynamic capabilities and configurations theories. Based on the reviewed literature, a conceptual model and hypotheses were formulated. The study was guided by positivist philosophy. The population of the research was the entire 107 Kenyan large manufacturing firms (LMFs). Cross-sectional research design was used. Primary data in respect of predictor variables was used and was collected using a structured questionnaire. The respondents were the senior managers of the large manufacturing firms (LMFs) in Kenya; namely Chief Executive Officers/Managing Directors (CEOs/MDs) or General Managers (GMs), or Heads of departments (HODs). Descriptive statistics, correlations, linear, multiple and hierarchical regressions were applied in the data scrutiny and interpretation. The study results showed partial organizational design mediating role in the organizational ambidexterity - performance association of LMFs in Kenya. The study findings are useful to practitioners and managers of LMFs, policymakers in government as well as scholars and researchers. The study recommends further studies on the mediating role of organizational design, different variable operationalization, diversify respondents and context as well as longitudinal study.

Numerous studies have been conducted to explore the individual effects of organizational culture (OC) and supply chain management (SCM) practices on organizational performance (OP) in different settings. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of OC and SCM on OP. The sample of the study consisted of 93 manufacturing firms in Jordan. Data were collected from employees and managers from different divisions using a reliable and valid measurement instrument. The findings confirm that both OC and SCM practices significantly predict OP. The current study is significant in reliably testing the relationship between SCM practices and OP; however, it is necessary to consider cultural assumptions, values and beliefs as the impact of OC on OP is greater than the impact of SCM practices. Based on the results, future studies should consider the moderating and mediating role of OC on the relationship between SCM practices and OP.

The advent of globalization has brought with it drastic changes to the operating landscape for firms in the manufacturing sector. The need for transformational changes so as sustain competitive advantage has been on  the rise. Firms are expected to continuously re-engineer their business models and operations to catch up with the turbulent environment. Previous studies have investigated the contribution of manufacturing firms in economic growth. Some have concentrated on the preferred approaches that countries should take, whether protectionism or free market. However, empirical studies investigating direct impact of dynamic capabilities on manufacturing firms’ performance have been minimal. The general objective of the study was to examine the influence of the three dimensions of dynamic capabilities (sensing capabilities, seizing capabilities and reconfiguration capabilities) on firm performance. The study was grounded on the Resource-Based View theory. An explanatory research design was used for the cross-sectional survey. Primary data was obtained from 271 out of 369 firms sampled from a population of 1,496 manufacturing firms in Nairobi County, Kenya, using a structured questionnaire instrument through drop and pick. The questionnaire was completed by the firms’ CEOs. Reliability and validity tests were carried out on the research instruments and study measures. Hypotheses were tested using regression analysis results, namely: - sensing capabilities (B=0.215, P<0.01), seizing capabilities (B=0.194, P<0.01) and reconfiguration capabilities (B=0.182, P<0.001). These three variables combined, contributed 25.9% (R2=0.259) of the variance in firm performance. The study concluded that deployment of dynamic capabilities has significant influence on firm performance.

AbstractHow firms’ dynamic capabilities lead to their competitive advantage and improved firm performance has been a core issue and full of debates. In this research, we theorize that dynamic capabilities, which could be defined by three distinct dimensions (sensing capability, integration capability, and reconfiguration capability), facilitate different types of innovation that in turn improve firm performance. Based on a sample of 204 Chinese firms, results from partial least squares structural equation modeling analyses generally support our arguments despite some nuanced differences existing among different dimensions of dynamic capabilities. This study contributes to dynamic capabilities literature by reducing the scarcity of empirical research and by uncovering the mechanisms through which dynamic capabilities influence firm performance.

Due to globalization and uncertainty in business environment, organizations need to adapt and update their knowledge to remain competitive and innovative and to enhance their productive level. Moreover, Emotional intelligence is vital and accountable factor that determine the victory in life. Such factor plays a significant part in workplace by influencing the collaboration between managers and employees. However, present study is undertaken to scrutinize the influence emotional intelligence, knowledge management on the performance level of organization with mediating role of organizational learning. Current study is descriptive and cross-sectional. Sample size is 150 and simple random sampling method is used. Questionnaire survey method has used. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) used to support and prove the hypothesis statistically. Results of study enlightened that there is significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence, and organizational performance. Moreover, knowledge management also significantly associated with organizational performance. Furthermore, findings revealed that organizational learning significantly and partially mediates the relationship between emotional intelligence and performance as well as knowledge management and organizational performance. Therefore, Emotional Intelligence and Knowledge are important inputs and organizational learning is the key practice, which enhances the performance and output of any organization.

PurposeThe aim of the study is to examine the impact of the big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) on the organizational performance. The study also examines the mediating role of ambidexterity and the moderating role of business value of big data (BVBD) analytics in the relationship between the big data analytics capabilities and the organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachThis study collected primary data based on a questionnaire survey among the large manufacturing firms operating in UAE. A total of 650 questionnaires were distributed among the manufacturing firms and 295 samples were used for final data analysis. The survey was conducted from September to November in 2019, and data were analyzed based on partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe big data analysis (BDA) scalability is supported by the findings on the performance of firm and its determinants such as system, value of business and quality of information. The roles of business value as a moderator and ambidexterity as mediator are found significant. The results reveal that there is a need for managers to consider the business value and quality dynamics as crucial strategic objectives to achieve high performance of the firm.Research limitations/implicationsThe study has significant policy implication for practitioners and researchers for understanding the issues related to big data analytics.Originality/valueThis is an original study based on primary data from UAE manufacturing firms.

The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of organizational learning in the relationship between knowledge management and organizational performance in HEIs, KP, Pakistan. Teachers working in the Universities were considered the sample (n=338) of the study. A structured questionnaire comprised items about research variables administered in order to collect data. Baron and Kennys (1986) four-step models applied through Preacher and Hayes (2013) Process macro as a data analysis technique. The current study results show that organizational learning acts partially mediates in the association between KM and OP. Moreover, enriching the literature on this understanding, the present study is also of value in managerial perspective as it helps increase higher education institutions (HEIs) knowledge on how to boost and enhance the performance of the organization by engaging in KM activities.

Background: The new paradigm of government management has stimulated public organizations to establish innovative and competitive management policies through public entrepreneurship in order to provide excellent public service and to enhance public organizational performance. This research study aims to investigate the effects of government policy on organizational performance through the mediating role of public entrepreneurship of provincial administration organization in the upper northeastern region 2 in Thailand. Methods: This research employs a cross-sectional questionnaire study. Data were collected from 216 government officials through five-point Likert scale questionnaires with validity and reliability analyses. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics toward path analysis. Results: The research results reveal that government policy has a significant direct influence on organizational performance with a standardized coefficient of 0.655. Government policy has a significant indirect effect on organizational performance through the mediating role of public entrepreneurship with a standardized coefficient of 0.566. The total effects can be described with a standardized coefficient of 0.733 at a 0.05 significance level. Conclusions: The government should establish innovative and competitive public policies to support a rapid change of entrepreneurial orientation, and transform policies into action. As public entrepreneurship has a significant mediating role in enhancing organizational performance, conventional public structures of performance management are being replaced by more innovative, adaptive, and competitive public entrepreneurship in order to get the desired and effective public outcomes for a provincial administration organization.

The paper argued that the challenges experienced in Nigerian textile manufacturing firms resulted from weak strategic entrepreneurship leading to alarming decline in the industry’s performance. Thus, investigated competitive advantage nexus with strategic entrepreneurship (strategic flexibility, adaptability, innovation, strategic leadership, risk taking and dynamic capabilities) as proxies in Lagos State, Nigeria. A cross-sectional survey research design was used and primary data collected. The adapted questionnaire validity was established through confirmatory factor analysis while the reliability was ascertained through internal consistency test. The population consists of 253 senior management staff and total enumeration was used. A total of 253 copies of the questionnaire were administered but 237 copies reverted. Descriptive statistics, exploratory analysis and structural equation model were utilized to analyse the data.


Emotional intelligence and social competencies are a few constructs that predict the cultural adjustment of expatriates. There is a dearth of studies that explored the impact of emotional intelligence and social competencies on the cultural adjustment of expatriates in Malaysia. Hence, this study focusses on the relationship between emotional intelligence and social competencies on cultural adjustment of expatriates. Additionally, the mediation role of self-motivation was examined. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional survey to collect primary data. Random sampling was used to collect data from a sample of 301 expatriates. Questionnaires were sent either by hand or electronically. This study used PLS SEM to estimate the model. The results pointed out that emotional intelligence and social competencies are essential predictors of cultural adjustment. The results also revealed the mediating role of self-motivation. The findings added to the current body of knowledge and presented new insights into the contribution of emotional intelligence and social competencies towards cultural adjustment of expatriates. Based on the findings, organizations and HR managers involved in managing expatriates for global assignment can implement policies and processes to select and prepare the right expatriates for global assignments.

The theoretical and practical impact of dynamic capabilities on organizational performance remains elusive. This study investigates the mediating role of a firm’s dynamic capabilities, measured by IT capability and environmental scanning. In addition, by proposing that knowledge management (KM) strategies play a crucial moderating role in the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation (EO), dynamic capabilities, and organizational performance, this study highlights the need for effective KM strategies to maximize organizational performance. A questionnaire was administered to Korean managers who understand and can answer overall characteristics of their organizations. Our study found that dynamic capabilities partially mediated the relationship between EO and organizational performance. In addition, our findings show that the relationship between EO and organizational performance is stronger when firms emphasize personalization KM strategies, while the firms focusing on codification KM strategies demonstrate a stronger relationship between IT capability and organizational performance.
