This paper emphasizes the influence of TV programmes for children on their ethical values, taking some programmes of the Spanish television (TVE) as examples. Their contents usually fit values praised by the society and human rights. On the other hand, other programmes aimed at a different audience (such as series or advertisements) but also watched by children, don´t respect those principles and they even contradict them.

AbstractWhen governments create refugee policies they consider several factors (security, economics, ethics, etc.). There are reasons why admitting refugees could have negative consequences (for example, security risks). On the other hand, if the recipient societies have ideals that stress the importance of helping other people, they should act according to their values. The aim of this article is to examine the concept of human dignity and show that European states should admit and help refugees because it is in accordance with their ethical values and the international agreements they have signed. This is important because when European countries hesitate to help refugees, they act not only contrary to their humane tradition, but they can harm them. The western concept of human dignity is one of the main values that stresses that each person is important—that they are equal and free.

Abstract: human rights are a set of ethical values whose purpose is to protect and enable the realization of human dignity in its various dimensions and also prevent the reduction of the individual to the condition of object or, above all, the reduction of his condition as subject of rights, such as the right to life, freedom, security, equality. The universal character of human rights protection demonstrates some weaknesses, especially in the transposition into concrete legal systems, so what we propose is a brief analysis of human rights from Hannah Arendt.

A survey of the proliferating literature by Muslims on ecology indicates that the majority favors some role for traditional Islamic law in order to solve the current environmental crisis. And so what is the meaning of the word “Shari’a” that appears so often? A close look at this discourse reveals an inherent fuzziness in its use of Shari’a. All of the scholar/activists surveyed in this paper, though on the conservative end of the spectrum, chiefly refer to “Shari’a” as a source of ethical values. The first to address these issues was Iranian-American philosopher Seyyed Hossein Nasr whose pluralist theology is hospitable to the spiritual input of all faiths; yet the most influential environmentalists today are the British scholars Mawil Izzi Dien and Fazlun Khalid, whose writings and campaigns have impacted millions of Muslims worldwide. Their appeal to past norms of eco-friendly Shari’a norms and their desire to update them in the present context fits nicely with the Earth’s Charter call for “a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.”

Abstract: Philosophical activity is directed primarily to the world of ideas, that is, it deals with thoughts and meditation on the deepest themes of human and non-human existence. On the other hand, the pedagogical activity is mainly directed to more practical purposes, although not less important, and takes advantage of the knowledge revealed by the different referents of philosophy. However, it has been pointed out that for different reasons education has strayed far from the deeper world of ideas, which can lead to very superficial pedagogical activity. This essay aims to bring philosophy closer to education and, specifically, to physical education. First, the objective was to analyze the meaning of love proposed by two philosophers associated with the phenomenological school, Max Scheler and José Ortega y Gasset. Later, that meaning was associated with ethical training in school physical education. The analysis reflects that both agree that love is an objective feeling and an intentional act aimed at adequately preserving what is positively valued. They also recognize that love precedes emotions, thoughts, and desires, as well as its direction goes from the top to the bottom. This knowledge can be applied in physical education in different ways, highlighting awareness on the relationship between emotions and ethical values, such as solidarity, respect for human rights, tolerance, and humility.

Ian Manners (2002) famously argued that the European Union (EU) is a ‘normative’ power. According to this description, ethical values are fundamental both to the legal basis, and to the day- to-day policies of the EU. This essay evaluates the claim that the EU is a Normative Power, focusing on the field of human rights. Certainly, the EU strongly promotes its human rights policies as being a force for good in the world. The EU’s has traditionally been supportive of international legal regimes, and its human rights values have conditioned its relations with other actors. Despite this, the EU’s policies have often failed to change the behaviour of other actors. The main cause of this gap between rhetoric and reality is the conflict between the traditional realist interests of member states, and the ideals of the EU. The EU must be more conscious of this clash, if its human rights policies are to be successful.

This chapter argues that international human rights standards offer the most promising basis for developing a coherent and universally recognized set of standards that can be applied to meet any of the normative concerns currently falling under the rubric of AI (artificial intelligence) ethics. It then outlines the core elements of a human rights–centered design, deliberation, and oversight approach to the governance of AI. This approach requires that human rights norms are systemically considered at every stage of system design, development, and deployment, drawing upon and adapting technical methods and techniques for safe software and system design, verification, testing, and auditing in order to ensure compliance with human rights norms. The regime must be mandated by law and relies critically on external oversight by independent, competent, and properly resourced regulatory authorities with appropriate powers of investigation and enforcement. However, this approach will not ensure the protection of all ethical values adversely implicated by AI, given that human rights norms do not comprehensively cover all values of societal concern. As such, a great deal more work needs to be done to develop techniques and methodologies that are robust—reliable yet practically implementable across a wide and diverse range of organizations involved in developing, building, and operating AI systems.
