Sleep insomnia, which reduces the effectiveness of sleep, is a large problem in America that affects individuals with a range of ages. Nearly 60 million people suffer from insomnia in America every year. My goal was to see if the use of aromatherapy, reduction of blue light, and practice of meditation before bed would increase sleep quality. More specifically, I will be focused on increasing the time spent in deep sleep and reducing the times one wakes up during the night. To test my hypothesis, I used the Fitbit Versa to monitor the sleep patterns of the participants of three people with and then the same three people without the pre-bed routines that may affect their sleep. While the results showed that aromatherapy meditation did improve the sleep of the participants, allowing the participant to sleep without waking up as many times are normal and feel more refreshed upon waking, the reduction of blue light had no significant impacts on the participant’s quality of sleep.

Sleep is an important factor in human life cycle. Many of the people are struggling from sleep disorders that may range from sleep deprivation to insomnia. Other major factor with respect to sleep is quality of sleep. It tends to happen with many of the people now a days that they get sleep for 6 to 8 hours but still they feel fatigue or sleepy throughout the day or even they are not satisfied with their sleep. Many people move towards the clinical/medical way to get good deep sleep like sleeping pills or tablets having alprazolam [1]. This may have seductive side effects throughout the day. Here in this paper we focus to improve sleep quality by maintain efficient hormonal profile of tryptophan i.e. melatonin through food based therapy to improve quality of sleep [2-4].

In this study, we analyze the effect of a recliner chair with rocking motions on sleep quality of naps using automated sleep scoring and spindle detection models. The quality of sleep corresponding to the two rocking motions was measured quantitatively and qualitatively. For the quantitative evaluation, we conducted a sleep parameter analysis based on the results of the estimated sleep stages obtained on the brainwave and spindle estimation, and a sleep survey assessment from the participants was analyzed for the qualitative evaluation. The analysis showed that sleep in the recliner chair with rocking motions positively increased the duration of the spindles and deep sleep stage, resulting in improved sleep quality.

Background: One of the challenges today is that the quality of sleep has weakened by many external factors, which we are not even aware of and which directly affect sleep. Sleep quality has an essential role in maintaining the cognitive function and memory consolidation of individuals. So far, various studies have been done to improve the quality of sleep by using external electrical stimulation, vestibular and olfactory system stimulation. Methods: In this study, the increase in sleep quality was considered by simultaneous acoustic stimulation in a deep sleep to increase the density of slow oscillations. Slow oscillations are the important events recorded in electroencephalography (EEG) and hallmark deep sleep. Acoustic stimulation of pink noise with random frequency ranging from 0.8 to 1.1 Hz was used to improve sleep quality. Results: Eight healthy adults (mean age: 28.4±7.8 years) studied in 3 nights under 3 conditions: accommodation night, stimulation night (STIM) and no stimulation night (SHAM), in counterbalanced order. Significant characteristics of the objective and subjective quality of sleep have been extracted from the acquired EEG and compared in the last 2 nights. Also, the arousal and cyclic alternating pattern characteristics have been measured to assess sleep stability over 2 nights of STIM and SHAM. Conclusion: Our findings confirm this goal of the study that applying designed acoustic stimulation simultaneously in the slow wave sleep (SWS) stage increases the duration of deep sleep and ultimately improves overall sleep stability and quality. AbstractPeople with hypertension experience symptoms of dizziness, headache, obstructive sleep apnea, shortness of breath, nocturia, and restless legs syndrome which disturb sleep and reduce its quality. This research’s objective was to describe the sleep quality overview of Puskesmas Rancaekek’s hypertension patients. Using descriptive quantitative method with purposive sampling technique, this research aimed at 79 Puskesmas Rancaekek’s patients who had been diagnosed with hypertension for at least one month long. The data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire and analysed using the total score resulted; ≤5 was good while >5 was poor. Results showed 94.6% of respondents had poor sleep quality. The dimensions that contribute to the poor sleep quality included >30 minutes sleep latency, <5 hours sleep duration, <65% of sleep efficiency, sleep disturbance due to waking up at midnight or early morning and waking up to toilet, and activity disturbance at daylight. The conclusion was that Puskesmas need to develop preventive and promotive efforts to minimize the complication of hypertension patients and optimize their quality of life by helping them improve their quality of sleep. Meanwhile, the self-management that should be done by the patients were avoiding the consumption of coffee and cigarettes, limiting physical activities, and doing physical exercise and relaxation therapies. Key Words: Hypertension, Sleep Quality, PSQI  AbstrakPenderita hipertensi mengalami gejala pusing, nyeri kepala, obstructive sleep apnea, sesak napas, nokturia, restless legs syndrome yang mengganggu tidur dan berdampak pada kualitas tidur serta mempengaruhi kualitas hidup dan tekanan darah. Penelitian bertujuan untuk melihat gambaran kualitas tidur pada penderita hipertensi di Puskesmas Rancaekek. Metode penelitian menggunakan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan teknik purposive sampling sebanyak 79 penderita hipertensi di Puskesmas Rancaekek yang telah didiagnosis dokter minimal 1 bulan. Pengambilan data menggunakan kuesioner Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) dan dianalisis menggunakan total skor, jika skor ≤ 5 baik dan skor > 5 buruk. Hasil menunjukan 94,6% responden memiliki kualitas tidur buruk. Dimensi yang berkontribusi terhadap kualitas tidur buruk yaitu latensi tidur tidak dapat tertidur dalam waktu 30 menit, durasi tidur <5 jam, efisiensi kebiasaan tidur <65%, gangguan tidur karena terbangun tengah malam atau pagi sekali dan terbangun karena ingin ke toilet, serta gangguan aktivitas pada siang hari. Puskesmas perlu mengembangkan upaya preventif dan promotif untuk meminimalisir komplikasi penderita hipertensi dan pencapaian kualitas hidup optimal salah satunya dengan membantu meningkatkan kualitas tidur. Dengan mengedukasi penderita untuk menghindari konsumsi kopi dan rokok, membatasi aktivitas fisik, melakukan latihan fisik, dan terapi relaksasi. Kata Kunci: Hipertensi, Kualitas Tidur, PSQI

During the postpartum period, there were many difficulties in resting and disturbed sleep patterns in the first three days due to perineal pain, discomfort in the bladder and disorders of babies who often cry because of the transition period. in the postpartum period, the majority of mothers experience disturbed sleep patterns and sleep quality, namely sleep patterns and sleep duration. The aims of this study was to determine the differences in the quality of postpartum sleep that was given the Murratal Arrahman therapy with Klenengan music. The sample in this study were postpartum mothers on days 3 to 7 with normal type of delivery obtained from random simple sampling and this study was a quasy experiment with pre-test and post-test only with control group design and for the measurement of sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Result study Sleep quality between the intervention group and the control group was not significantly different (P = 0.33). Likewise, the quality of sleep in each time interval between the intervention group and the control group showed a significant difference, where the P value 0.05 and conclusion there is a difference between the provision of arrahman and klenengan murratal therapy and it can affect the quality of sleep of postpartum mothers, namely the quality of sleep. postpartum mothers are better off.

To assess dry eye symptoms (DES) and quality of sleep in engineering students during the Covid19 pandemic lockdown and also to assess the association between DES and sleep quality. A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was carried out among 396 engineering students studying in Saveetha engineering college. The study tool used was a semi-structured google form questionnaire designed for assessing digital device usage, symptoms of dry eye disease and sleep pattern. Responses were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. Overall 64.1% attained a score of more than 10, indicating the presence of DES. 70.2% of the study population used digital screens for more than 13 hours. A statistically significant association was found between increased screen time and presence of DES(p<0.05). 64.9% had a score of >18 indicating reduced sleep quality. About 77.1% of the students with DES had reduced sleep quality, and a significant association (p<0.01) was observed between the two. During the Covid19 pandemic lockdown, there appears to be rising prevalence of DES in student population, one of the reasons being increased screen time. The sleep quality was also found to be reduced, and a significant association was found between DES and sleep quality.

Abstract Introduction COVID-19 epidemic led to great psychological and social stress, related to anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, suicidal risk and behavior, and changes in daily routine. The aim of this study was to assess the psychological impact of COVID-19 lockdown in Italian students. We focused on perceived sleep quality, anxiety and depression symptoms, and mostly on risk of suicide. Methods A total of 307 students (mean age 22.84±2.68) completed Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). In our study, we focused on item 9 of BDI-II, that is related to suicide. We divided our sample on presence or absence of suicidal ideation based on this item. Results We found that 30.1% showed depressive, while 38.2% anxious symptoms. Concerning item 9 of BDI-II (suicidal thoughts or wishes), 84.7% answered that they do not have any thoughts of killing themselves, while 15.3% answered that they have some suicidal ideation. Concerning sleep variables, we found that 58% of our sample showed a PSQI total score higher than 5 (poor quality of sleep), and a global worsening in sleep quality and increase of insomnia both in student with and without suicidal ideation. Conclusion Our results on risk of suicide are in line with literature. Recent reviews focused on suicidal ideation in medical students found that depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation are common among medical students, finding a prevalence of suicidal ideation of 11%. Several studies suggest that sleep disorders are a risk factor for suicidal thoughts and behaviours. Our findings show that sleep cannot considered a predictive factor of risk of suicide during health emergency, because the risk is polyfactorial. Support (if any) None

Background: The coronavirus pandemic and the government restrictions significantly disturbed the daily functioning of people, thereby influencing healthy behaviors, such as physical activity—the core indicator of well-being. This study evaluates the associations between physical activity (PA), the level of stress and quality of sleep during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Methods: An online survey was distributed during the governmental lockdown in April 2020 and included measures for assessing physical activity, stress and sleep. The surveyed participants included all adults aged 18 years and over. The final data were collected from the 1959 respondents using: International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Findings: Almost half of the respondents indicated a low level of PA, performing only 60 min of PA daily. Most of the participants reported a moderate or high level of stress (57% and 29%, respectively) and 64% of them reported poor quality of sleep. People with low levels of stress performed on average 85.1 min/day of walking (WPA), 40.9 min/day of moderate PA (MPA) or 52.6 min/day of vigorous PA (VPA). People with good quality of sleep performed 82.9 min/day of WPA, 43.6 min/day MPA and 40.5 min/day VPA. Interpretation: The results from the study indicate that the volume of daily PA may be a predictor of the level of stress and sleep quality in adults during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. To retain a low level of stress and good quality of sleep, a lifestyle that allows to achieve a moderate level of physical activity should be maintained. The optimal daily dose of PA is at least 70 min per day, involving different intensities.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the quality of sleep in women with urinary incontinence before and after sling surgery. Methods: A prospective study of case series of women with urodynamic diagnosis of stress urinary incontinence. To evaluate the subjective quality of sleep, two specific questionnaires were used and validated for the Portuguese Language: Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The questionnaires were applied before and 6 months after surgical repair. Results: When analyzing the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, there was an improvement in sleep quality (p=0.0401). For the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, only for sleep disorder there was improvement in quality of sleep after surgery (p=0.0127). Conclusion: Women with urinary incontinence, submitted to surgery with sling, showed improvement in both quality of sleep and sleep disorder.

Abstract Purpose: This study aimed to assess the burden of care and its relationship with sleep quality of cancer patients’ caregivers.Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted in a referral center of cancer in Zanjan, northwest of Iran. 135 caregivers of cancer patients were recruited through convenience sampling method. The data were collected using a demographic characteristics questionnaire, Novak and Guest’s caregiver burden inventory and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The mean (± SD) age of the participants was 39.71 (± 10.74) years. The mean (± SD) burden of care and sleep quality of the participants was 45.22 (± 17.75) and 8.88 (± 4.21), respectively. It was found that there is a significant positive relationship between burden of care and quality of sleep scores (r = 0.65, P < 0.001).Conclusion: cancer patients’ caregivers endure a remarkable burden of care and their sleep quality is undesirable. Results indicated that an increase in the burden of care reduces the caregiver’s quality of sleep. High burden of care and poor sleep quality may reduce the quality of the provided care that increase the costs and weakens the disease prognosis. According to the study results, reducing burden of care is an effective strategy regarding improving the caregivers’ quality of sleep that can improve the quality of provided cares by caregivers.
