The translation sector is going under major changes that will undoubtedly be accentuated in the future owing to the development of automation and artificial intelligence, and more specifically, of machine translation. Technology also plays a crucial role in the translation process and has a significant impact on translation competence. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that translator programs incorporate new translation technology into their curriculums in order to ensure that students are made aware of their usefulness in order to fulfil industry employment needs. This piece of research strives at mapping how and what for translation students use MT, and what are their attitudes and perceptions towards its use. Findings of a qualitative analysis indicate that undergraduate students have a positive general attitude towards MT and its many advantages, whereas they show preoccupation when MT professional issues are addressed.

The effects of censored versus uncensored sexually explicit music on undergraduate students’ attitudes toward premarital sex, perception of peer sexual activity, and attitudes toward women were examined. Under the guise of a lyrical memory task, the experiment involved groups of participants who were randomly assigned to listen to an uncensored sexually explicit song, a censored version of the same song, a nonsexual song by the same artist, or no music. The lyrical content did not have a significant impact the participants’ self-reported sexual attitudes and perceptions of peer sexual activity. Additionally, the music (or lack of) did not significantly alter attitudes toward premarital sex, perceptions of peer sexual activity, or attitudes toward women. The nonsignificant difference between the sexually explicit songs and the nonsexual songs challenges the psychological and lay theories that exposure to sexually explicit music instigates attitudinal change.

The current study examined Iranian students’ attitudes towards English language in social and academic domains, and their attitudes toward English as part of a bilingual system in Iran. A 5-point likert scale questionnaire was used to investigate the extent for which students use English in their daily lives, its significance, students general attitude towards using English and their attitudes towards a bilingual system. The results indicate that a large number of participants (n=200), whom were selected among undergraduate students in Iran, reacted positively towards English language in general and having English as part of a bilingual system in particular. Data from the questionnaire indicates that students are interested in learning English for both social and professional reasons. Additionally, the results of this study highlight the greater preference of students in bilingual education which is statistically significant. Finally, some pedagogical implications related to the use of English are presented.

Purpose Future speech-language pathologists are often unprepared in their academic training to serve the communicative and cognitive needs of older adults with dementia. While negative attitudes toward older adults are prevalent among undergraduate students, service learning has been shown to positively affect students' attitudes toward older adults. TimeSlips is an evidence-based approach that has been shown to improve health care students' attitudes toward older adults. The purpose of this study is to explore the change in attitudes in speech-language pathology students toward older adults using TimeSlips in service learning. Method Fifty-one students participated in TimeSlips service learning with older adults and completed the Dementia Attitude Scale (DAS) before and after service learning. In addition, students completed a reflection journal. The DAS data were analyzed using nonparametric statistics, and journal entries were analyzed using a qualitative analysis approach. Results The service learners exhibited a significant increase in positive attitude as indexed on the DAS. The reflective journal entries supported the positive change in attitudes. Conclusions A noticeable attitude shift was indexed in reflective journals and on the DAS. TimeSlips is an evidence-based, patient-centered approach well suited to address challenges in the preparation of Communication Sciences and Disorders students to work with the growing population of older adults.

The condition is troubling and new scientific, environmental and infrastructure needs to play a crucial role in removing this important problem globally (including India). It focused in this report on how India; a developing country is trying to stop corona spreading, and how artificial intelligence (AI) plays an essential role in controlling and monitoring the disease. The study also focuses on the topic and the challenges a developing country such as India faces.

This paper reflects the technology-induced novelty of translation, which is perceived as a bridge between languages and cultures. We debate the extent to which the translation process maintains its specificity in the light of the new technology-enhanced working methods ensured by a large variety of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) and Machine Translation (MT) tools that aim to enhance the process, which includes the translation itself, the translator, the translation project manager, the linguist, the terminologist, the reviewer, and the client. This paper also hints at the topic from the perspective of the translation teacher, who needs to provide students with transversal competencies that are suitable for the digital area, supported by the ability to tackle Cloud-based translation tools, in view of Industry 4.0 requirements.

Machine translation (MT) is an important task in natural language processing (NLP), as it automates the translation process and reduces the reliance on human translators. With the resurgence of neural networks, the translation quality surpasses that of the translations obtained using statistical techniques for most language-pairs. Up until a few years ago, almost all of the neural translation models translated sentences independently , without incorporating the wider document-context and inter-dependencies among the sentences. The aim of this survey article is to highlight the major works that have been undertaken in the space of document-level machine translation after the neural revolution, so researchers can recognize the current state and future directions of this field. We provide an organization of the literature based on novelties in modelling and architectures as well as training and decoding strategies. In addition, we cover evaluation strategies that have been introduced to account for the improvements in document MT, including automatic metrics and discourse-targeted test sets. We conclude by presenting possible avenues for future exploration in this research field.

Translation plays an important role in the world economic and cultural exchanges. Translation is divided into machine translation and human translation, which is complement each other in promoting world economic and social development process. In this paper, Collaborative Translation gets much attention, along with the growth of collaborative translation, English translation technology also towards a new milestone, the characteristics of collaborative translation process and scientific literature are briefly introduced, and collaborative translation technology English Translation applications made a brief explanation. From the perspective of the development of machine translation, comparative analysis of the characteristics of human translation machine translation strengths and weaknesses, and we make relevant response measures and selection criteria translation approach. The specific translation system is analyzed from the perspective of textual and the Collaborative Translation shortcomings, as well as interpretation of collaborative translation features, functions and its impact on the meaning and sentence meaning.

Abstract Using the traditional framework of Pen Pals, Instapals was a project that facilitated 1-to-1 intergenerational relationships through daily exchanges on Instagram for 30 days. Although communication channels have exploded in the past 10 years in large part to social platforms and digital technologies, the diversity of daily social interactions has decreased. More and more, society has become siloed by age, interest, and belief. Building off intergroup contact theory, Instapals was designed to encourage positive intergenerational contact between younger (undergraduate students) and older adults (individuals 65+) and challenge ageist beliefs. Intergenerational social exchanges occurred both on Instagram and during three in-person meetings. Among undergraduate students, attitudes and stereotypes toward older adults and aging were assessed at three timepoints (before meeting their older adult partner, during a mid-point evaluation, and at the end of the project). Quantitative analyses demonstrate a decrease in aging anxiety, a decrease in psychological concerns about the aging process, and a greater endorsement of positive perceptions toward one’s older adult partner. Qualitative analyses of written responses from students (collected before meeting their older adult partner and at the end of the project) revealed that the Instapals project helped students challenge ageist attitudes and stereotypes and was perceived to be a positive experience overall. Implications suggest that positive intergenerational contact can be facilitated and enhanced through the use of technology. Future research should explore whether attitudes, stereotypes, and self-perceptions of aging changed among older adults as well as other technological mechanisms for facilitating intergenerational contact.
