Forest fire is one of the problem in forest management. The objectives of the study was to measure the forest fire severity based on soil physical and chemical properties. The forest fire effects were assessed using fire severity method and forest health monitoring plot. The study indicated that the burned areas at BKPH Parung Panjang after two years included in low fire severity. The site properties and growth performance analysis showed that the fire has only affected on pH, Mg and tree diameter significantly, whereas the other parameters such as bulk density, P, N, Na, K, Ca and height were not significantly affected. In addition, both burned and unburned areas are classified as in health condition.Key words : fire severity, forest health monitoring, growth performance, site properties

A comprehensive investigation has been made of a set of historical leather samples from the 17th – 20th centuries. For the investigation of the degradation degree spectral techniques in IR (MID and NIR) and UV-VIS have been used, and collateral Micro Hot Table (MHT) determination as well. Changes in the physical and chemical characteristics values of the leather issues due to the interaction with the environmental factors during a long period of time were used in order to identify the possible deterioration ways.

The phytoplankton community's temporal variability associated with environmental factors and harmful algal blooms in Acapulco Bay was analyzed. Phytoplankton samples were taken monthly at three sites (MSL: Morro de San Lorenzo, CDO: Casa Díaz Ordaz, and PP: Playa Palmitas) over 11 months in 2018. The physical and chemical variables of surface water were measured in situ, and the composition and community structure of phytoplankton were analyzed. The physical and chemical characteristics studied varied significantly. The highest temperatures were obtained in September and October (September: 29.6 ± 3.58°C, October: 34.61 ± 1.83°C), whereas the highest salinities and chlorophyll-a concentrations occurred from February to May (salinity: 34.06 ± 0.38, chlorophyll-a: 2.73 ± 0.15 μg L-1). The highest oxygen concentrations were recorded during the rainy season (June 91.8% and December 100%). A total of 201 phytoplankton species were identified: 94 diatoms, 101 dinoflagellates, 4 cyanobacteria, and 2 silicoflagellates. Diatoms dominated during the rainy season, whereas dinoflagellates dominated during the dry season (June to December). A total of 17 harmful species were identified; four toxin-producing species included a diatom genus (Pseudonitszchia sp.) and three dinoflagellate species (Gymnodinium catenatum, Dinophysis caudata, and Phalacroma rotundata). One species that produces oxygen reactive species and hemolysis (Margalefidinium polykrikoides) caused a harmful algal bloom at the CDO and PP stations. The temperature is one of the most critical factors for its bloom in October.

ABSTRACT Adverse natural conditions will, generally, induce gemmulation in freshwater sponges. Because of this environmental dependence, gemmoscleres are given exceptional value in taxonomic, ecological and paleoenvironmental studies. Other spicules categories such as microscleres and beta megascleres have received little attention with regard to their occurrence and function during the sponge biological cycle. Metania spinata, a South American species common to bog waters in the Cerrado biome, produces alpha and beta megascleres, microscleres and gemmoscleres. To detect the environmental factors triggering the production of all these kinds of spicules, the species annual seasonal cycle was studied. Artificial substrates were devised, supplied with gemmules and placed in Lagoa Verde pond which contained a natural population of M. spinata. Field monitoring was conducted for eight months in order to observe the growth of sponges and spicules formation. Samples of water were taken monthly for physical and chemical parameters determination. The appearance of the alpha megascleres was sequentially followed by that of microscleres, gemmoscleres and beta megascleres. The first ones built the new sponge skeleton, the last three were involved in keeping inner moisture in the sponge body or its gemmules. The water level, temperature and the silicon (Si) concentration in the pond were the most important factors related to this sequential production of spicules, confirming environmental reconstructions based on the presence or absence of alpha megascleres and gemmoscleres in past sediments.

AbstractIn this work, we analyze environmental (physical and chemical) and biological (phytoplankton) data obtained in Sanya Bay during four cruises, carried out in January, April, August, and October. The main objective of this study was to identify the key environmental factors affecting phytoplankton structure and bacterioplankton in the bay. Results suggest that spatial variations in the phytoplankton community and bacterioplankton biomass are the result of nutrients. Temporal variation in the abundance of bacterioplankton and phytoplankton are affected by a combination of physical and biological factors, such as temperature and nutrients. The silicate, phosphate, and nitrogen phytoplankton require for growth may be co-limited. Monsoon winds (a southwestern monsoon during summer and a northeastern monsoon during winter) play important roles in controlling the phytoplankton community and bacterioplankton abundance in Sanya Bay, northern South China Sea.

Using grey system theory to research relationships between Chlorophyll-a and environmental factors in Wuliangsuhai lake was done in the present study. The effects of physical and chemical factors on chlorophyll-a in Wuliangsuhai lake, were evaluated by using of the gray connection method, providing a row order of those effects, and creating the “advantage factors” that exhibited the greatest effects on chlorophyll-a in wuliangsuhai lake, including temperature、illumination、EC、SD.
