This study evaluated the fluoride release of alkasite restorative material (ARM) and giomer penetrating the dentin adhesive layer. Twenty specimens were prepared for each restorative material, and dentin adhesive with uniform thickness was applied to half of them. The prepared specimens were placed in a polyethylene tube containing 2.0 mL of deionized water and deposited in a 37.0°C water bath for the study duration. The amount of fluoride release was measured on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days after deposition. The dentin adhesive applied to the ARM and giomer could not completely block the fluoride release; however, it significantly reduced its amount. The cumulative amount of fluoride release of the ARM after 28 days was higher than that of the giomer regardless of the application of dentin adhesive.

Background: A successful restorative material forms a better adhesion, resist the microleakage and releases fluoride. However, existing glass ionomer cements cannot be used as a posterior restorative material in stress bearing areas. A new ionomer called Zirconomer, zirconia reinforced glass ionomer claims to exhibit high physical and biological properties. Aim: To assess and compare the microleakage, compressive strength, flexural strength and fluoride release from zirconomer with ketac silver. Materials & Methods: On twenty caries free premolar teeth (10 per each group), a class v cavity was restored with zirconomer and ketac silver. The microleakage was assessed using dye penetration test and stereomicroscope. The compressive and flexural strengths of these materials were measured using Instron Universal testing machine. The amount of fluoride released from the modified ionomers at pH 5 and pH 7 was estimated using Orion fluoride specific electrode. The obtained data was then subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Data was analysed using paired t-test for intergroup comparisons and unpaired t-test for intragroup comparisons. The overall microleakage (0.5±0.48) of zirconomer was significantly less (p=0.000) compared to ketac silver (1.9±0.83). Zirconomer demonstrated a significant higher compressive strength (330.25±60.14), flexural strength (33.058±2.36) than ketac silver (p= 0.000). Zirconomer demonstrated high fluoride release from day 1 to day 7 at both pH 5 and pH 7. Conclusion: Zirconomer demonstrated better physical and biological properties compared with ketac silver.

The paper presents the static strength of adhesively bonded steel joints aged in deionized water at a temperature of 60°C for 15 days at various adhesive thicknesses from 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm. Water uptake and the bulk adhesive tensile properties after aged in the same environment as the joints were also presented. It has been shown that water diffusion into the adhesive is non Fickian. The absorbed water in the adhesive significantly decreases the mechanical properties and it affects the static strength of the bonded steel joints. The effect of water is shown to be significant when the adhesive thickness is thicker than 0.2 mm as the static strength decreases sharply. This information is useful when designing the adhesive joints using thick adhesive layer exposed in moist environment.

The aim of this research is to study the influence of size and location of wedge-shaped defects of teeth on stress and strain state of restorative material on the basis of biomechanical analysis. Materials and methods: Biomechanical analysis of the stress-strain state was performed on a jaw bone fragment with canine and premolar inclusion. Results: Tangential stress increase both in the adhesive layer and in restorative material with depth and width (medial-distal size) of restored wedge-shaped defects of teeth,. The most unfavorable loading on a tooth is a joint action of vertical and horizontal loading in lingual- vestibular or vestibular-lingual direction, depending on localization of the restored wedge-shaped defects of teeth. The formation of retention grooves in wedge-shaped defects of teeth reduces the value of the maximum tangential stress in the adhesive layer of restorative material to 25% and extends the longevity of restorations. Conclusions: The difference in maximal values of tangential stress increases in adhesive layer of restorative material with or without retention grooves with increasing depth of defect. Thus, it is advisable to form retention grooves in cases of wedge-shaped teeth defects that exceed 1.5 mm. In case of restoration of subgingival wedge-shaped defects of teeth of small height it is recommended to create one retention groove on the gingival or incisal planes of a carious cavity due to significant inconveniences, and sometimes impossibility of formation of traditionally located retention grooves.

ABSTRACT Glass-ionomer cements (GICs) are mainstream restorative materials that are bioactive and have a wide range of uses, such as lining, bonding, sealing, luting or restoring a tooth. Although the major characteristics of GICs for the wider applications in dentistry are adhesion to tooth structure, fluoride releasing capacity and tooth-colored restorations, the sensitivity to moisture, inherent opacity, long-term wear and strength are not as adequate as desired. They have undergone remarkable changes in their composition, such as the addition of metallic ions or resin components to their composition, which contributed to improve their physical properties and diversified their use as a restorative material of great clinical applicability. The lightcured polymer reinforced materials appear to have substantial benefits, while retaining the advantages of fluoride release and adhesion. Further research should be directed towards improving the properties, such as strength and esthetics without altering its inherent qualities, such as adhesion and fluoride releasing capabilities. Current restorative materials with high fluoride release generally have lower mechanical properties. Therefore they may not be as durable clinically as lower fluoride release materials, particularly in load bearing areas. The aim of the present study is to explore the fluoride release and recharging ability as well as its compressive strength of the newly developed material called Giomer. The name Giomer is a hybrid of the words Glass Ionomer and Composite. Giomer contain a revolutionary PRG (Pre Reacted Glass) filler technology. They have properties of both conventional Glass Ionomer (fluoride release and recharge) and resin Composite (excellent esthetics, easy polishability and biocompatibility). MATERIALS & METHODS: Seven disk specimens of Giomer, Compomer and Glass Ionomer restorative materials were prepared for measurement of fluoride release and recharge using Ion Chromatography (IC) anion analyzer machine. Another seven disk specimens of Giomer, Compomer and Composite restorative materials were prepared for measurement of compressive strength using Universal Testing Machine (UTM). RESULTS: The value of compressive strength of Giomer is greater than that of Composite and Compomer but the fluoride release capability of Giomer becomes low in comparison to Glass Ionomer but not significant in comparison to compomer. CONCLUSIONS: Giomer have high compressive strength (271 Mpa) and an initial fluoride (1.41 ppm) release. It also exhibit fluoride recharge capabilities. A preliminary test of two variants of the honey diluent, PP Pechnikov and PN Skatkin, for cryopreservation of the sperm of honey bee drones was carried out. The first option: honey 10% - 50 ml, lactose - 10 mg, sucrose 10 mg, egg yolk - 2.5 ml, glycerin 3% - 6 ml 250 μl. In the second variant, glycerin is replaced by DMSO 10% in a volume of 5 ml. A 10% working solution of honey was prepared in deionized water according to the method of P.P. Pechnikov and P.N. Skatkin on the basis of honey from white acacia. In a 1.8 ml Nunc cryotube, 80 μl of freshly prepared diluent was added, then 10 μl of semen, and everything was mixed. The samples prepared in this way were placed in visotubes, which, in turn, were immersed in a vessel with water at room temperature (24-26 ° C). After that, this vessel was placed in a refrigerator for 2 h at 3 ° C for equilibration. The cryostorage period was one day.The samples were thawed in a water bath at 37 ° С for 1 min. After thawing, 1 ml of a diluent heated to 37 ° C was added to the sample, carefully pipetted and left for 5-10 min. Then, a single centrifugation was carried out for 3 min at 3000 rpm. After centrifugation, the supernatant was removed and sperm was collected from the bottom of the cryovial using the capillary of the syringe block for uterus.The results of the analysis showed that the most optimal option for artificial insemination of queen bees is the option with DMSO. A single insemination with a volume of injected semen of 8-10 μL was used. For insemination, we used infertile queens aged 7–8 days. The printed brood was counted by direct counting of the number of bee and drone cells.It was found that natural bee honey from white acacia showed the properties of a cryoprotectant, which in combination with egg yolk and DMSO made it possible to obtain brood of working bees over 50%.

Objective: To evaluate the color stability of Tetric® N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite restorative material after immersion in three different (energy drink, protein supplement solution, and combination of energy drink and protein supplement solution) drinks. Materials and Methods: Composite resin disks, 2 mm in depth and 5 mm in diameter, were prepared from the Tetric® N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite restorative material. Specimens were tested after immersion and aging in energy drink (Red Bull) alone, protein supplement solution alone, and in combination with energy drink and protein supplement. Deionized water was used as a control group. Specimens were stored at room temperature of ±23°C for a period of one week in each drink. Color was assessed in the CIELAB using Color Eye 7000A Spectrophotometer. Color differences in different group specimens were measured. Mean values were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Further Tukey’s multiple comparison tests were applied to know the differences between the group of specimens. A p value of p < 0.05 was set as significance level. Results: N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite showed Δ L, Δ a, Δ b, and Δ E mean and standard deviation values when immersed in deionized water (–2.6 ± 3.24, 0.16 ± 0.19, 0.32 ± 1.26, and 3.51 ± 2.47), energy drink (–4.19 ± 4.24, 0.21 ± 0.21, 1.57 ± 1.32, and 5.40 ± 3.11), protein supplement (62.71 ± 12.48, –2.63 ± 0.7, 7.7 ± 5.67, and 63.45 ± 12.56), combined energy drink and protein supplement (68.52 ± 13.43, –4.06 ± 1.73, 10.94 ± 5.31, and 69.71 ± 13.42), respectively. All the color coordinates (Δ L, Δ a, and Δ b) showed statistically significant difference, p < 0.001. The color change of N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite specimens Δ E occurred by immersion in energy drink, protein supplement solution, and combined solution of energy drink and protein supplement after seven days was found to be statistically significant p < 0.001. Conclusion: The study’s finding suggests that the energy drink (Red Bull), protein supplement (ISOPURE), and combined immersion in energy drink and protein supplements caused perceptible and clinically unacceptable color change in the Tetric® N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite material. This color change was remarkably high with a combined immersion in energy drink and protein supplement solution.
