The study of some unpublished documents coming from several European and international libraries, after the publication of Anejos VIII, and the reconsideration of other primary sources that have already been studied, would seem to confirm most hypotheses raised in the book with a good margin of probability. The comparative analysis of these documents will allow us, as follows: a) to describe the historical background of the two letters, especially with regard to the rescriptum; b) to suggest a more precise dating of this rescriptum; and c) to outline the manuscript tradition of the two letters that, starting from the legal text in Koine Greek, are transformed into an apologetic literary text by means of interpolations that mostly affected the edict of tolerance. The preliminary study of some legal papyri, in comparison with the different versions of Ep. I, allowed us to propose a critical reconstruction of the text that has undergone numerous interpolations over the centuries. The first letter perfectly matches with both the structure and the legal terminology of the Hellenistic-Roman laws, in so fully mirroring the words used by Eusebius and Optatus to describe Maxentius' edict of tolerance.

This paper attempts to undertake a comparative analysis of resistance characteristics between newly developed asymmetrical catamaran hull forms which were derived from existing conventional NPL series of round bilge catamaran hull forms by Molland, Wellicome and Couser (1994). A set of asymmetrical catamaran hull forms with waterline length of 1.6 m with a separation ratio (s/L) of 0.4 were generated by using standard modelling software. The resistance analysis had been carried out by using STAR CCM+, a computational fluid dynamics package for Froude numbers of 0.25, 0.30, 0.60, 0.80 and 1.0. Literature survey indicates that there is scant historical background in public domain to perform resistance analysis on asymmetrical catamaran hull forms. As this is not feasible due to lack of data in areas that were considered crucial, separate resistance analysis is carried out for each hull configuration. Finally, the compared resistance results will attempt to conclude whether asymmetrical catamaran hull forms are more efficient than the conventional catamaran hull forms.

The introduction first provides a historical background for the book during the period from the 1924 establishment of the Whampoa Military Academy to the 1945 end of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Xu goes on to introduce the major themes that the book aims to engage with, namely state-building and state-society relations in modern China, war and soldiers in Chinese military history and literature, as well as social emotion and mass mobilization in the Chinese Communist Revolution. Xu argues in the introduction that her book focuses on both social and cultural impacts of war in order to treat war as a cultural event for the people it influences rather than simply an analysis of politics and strategy. Xu ends this section by introducing the chapter structure and primary sources of the book.

Abstract Ted Chiang’s Story of Your Life (1998) and its filmic adaptation Arrival (2016) both use Heptapod B, an artificial language from extra-terrestrial origin, capable of conferring on its speakers the ability of precognition, as a primordial narrative framework. Innovative as it is, it not only determines the way the stories are recounted, but also raises some very interesting philosophical issues. Focusing on that fantastical language, we promote a comparative analysis of the differing perspectives of the novella writer and the filmmakers regarding the free will and determinism dichotomy in connection with foreknowledge, and how these distinct views may have been influenced by the adaptation process. With the aim of providing a solid basis for such discussion, we collect and review the contributions of Linda Hutcheon, Brian McFarlane, George Bluestone, Linda Gualda as well as of others in relation to the plot developments in the literary text and its filmic adaptation. As a result, we point out what is prioritized or transformed in the adaptation process, thus offering a theoretical and philosophical criticism on the two stories and a comprehensive exegesis of the texts.

The subject of this research is the peculiarities of organization of space in the novel “Dead Men Walking” by Steve Lyons from the perspective opposition “own – alien”. The research employs the cultural-historical method and comparative analysis. The article examines the peculiarities of perception of space in the novel. The basic conflict is association with intervention of the alien civilization on the planet of people. Emphasis is placed on the fact that the war erases the boundaries of “own” and “alien”, each of parties to the conflict has reason to believe that the planet is “their own”. The characters of the novel are divided into “living” and “dead”, which complicates the conflict and organization of space even more. Space in the literary text is the subject of multiple scientific articles. However, the works dedicated to examination of space in S. Lyons’ novel are not featured in modern literary studies, which defines the scientific novelty of this research. The conclusion is drawn that  for humanity and for alien civilization space is simultaneously “own” and “alien”, since other civilization existed on the planet for a long time prior to the arrival of humans. Moreover, the organization of space is complicated by the arrival of human forces of rom other planet, who were unfamiliar with the concept of “own” space at all, which affects the course of war and determines the fate of the characters in the novel. Such approach demonstrates that the concept of “own” and “alien” in the novel is vague due to the fact that it is impossible to unambiguously attribute the planet neither to “own” nor “alien” space.

The views of V. Belikov, A. Vasyliev, P. Lashkarov, P. Linytskyi, I. Malyshevskyi, A. Sheremetynskyi and other teachers and religious figures about teaching pedagogy in educational institutions of the Orthodox Church in 1867-1884 have been covered in the article basing on the analysis of primary sources and historical and pedagogical literature. It has been established that the theoretical groundwork on these issues was presented in the projects and publications of such ecclesiastical periodicals as Volynskie Eparxial'nye Vedomosti, Pravoslavnoe Obozrenie, Poltavskie eparxial'nye vedomosti, Trudy Kievskoj duxovnoj akademii, etc. The ideas of teachers and religious figures regarding the content, methodological support, organizational aspects, forms, staffing of teaching pedagogy in academies, seminaries and women's educational institutions of the Orthodox Church have been identified and considered. The comparative analysis of theoretical developments on pedagogical education in the Orthodox educational institutions of the early nineteenth century – the mid 60's of the nineteenth century and 1867-1884 has been carried out in the research. It was found on its basis that during the period under research the problems of teaching and methodological support and the organization of teaching pedagogy were rarely brought up by teachers and religious figures, but at the same time they joined to solving new issues. In 1867-1884 the works where the forms of organizing the process of teaching pedagogy, peculiarities of the activities of teachers of this discipline in the educational institutions of the ecclesiastical department were considered appeared for the first time.

Abstract: The paper examines correlations of architectural culture in Serbia with modern ideas of the twentieth century that were engendered through engagement with concepts originated by Le Corbusier. Based on analysis of primary sources, the paper examines the dichotomy vernacular – modern as a critical point of this correlation. For instance, what was the significance of vernacular or folklore heritage, that Charles-Édouard Jeanneret traced in Serbia in 1911, and how did its value became part of the foundational discourse of the modern movement? What kind of relation to Le Corbusier’s doctrines were forged by modern architects in Serbia of the interwar years, and which lessons learned in his Parisian atelier by collaborators from the late 1930s had been transmitted far and wide in socialist Yugoslavia’s urban planning? This paper focuses on comparative analysis of direct material evidence of sources on the one side and interpretations on the other, with the aim to show more clearly a two-way working of sources, reception and selective transmission through architectural thinking and design process. In sum, the argumentation will aim to elucidate the processes of acknowledgment, emulation, idealization, analytical probing, dogmatization, critique and annihilation of Le Corbusier’s ideas in the long march of modernism’s emancipation and decline in Serbia over the course of the twentieth century. Keywords: Le Corbusier; Serbia; vernacular; purism; socialist modernism; New Belgrade.
