The literature review evidenced a lack of congruence between the expectations of the European Space for Higher Education and the achievements reached. This was as much the case for communicative competence as it was for digital competence and was mostly due to the lack of prior teaching of transversal skills, both in educational centres and online. A process of inductive analysis based on forty six autobiographical narratives of students enrolled on the program, produced two meta-categories: “evaluation of program development” and “achievements of the program”. To achieve these outcomes “grounded theory” and the information software NVivo- 12Plus were used. Results suggest that the program led to an interaction between participating students. Participation in the program is therefore of interest due to the learnings provided and the interaction that is evident in the development of the communicative and digital competence. In the same way, outcomes show the transversality of the proposed activities, especially: “creation and maintenance of a blog!” and “development of a video about privacy online”, which influenced the proposed competence units in 7 and 6, respectively (table 1). Further influences were found on course flexibility and overcoming time and space problems. Students rated the course as a “positive experience”, alluding to affective aspects which had enhanced their inclination towards learning and interaction. The students recognised initial weaknesses in the training of both competences made available to them through the online course. Further, they noted the didactic utility of the program with regards to their professional future.

В России не хватает преподавателей, которых специально готовили бы для разработки онлайн курсов в сфере цифрового образования и дистанционной работы с обучающимися с личного компьютера. the paper discusses problems of high-tech in the higher education sphere, of quality to prepare students as professional-oriented «digital-generation» with used e-learning and Learning Management System. It is the fact that there are no special personnel in Russia who would be specially trained for e-learning, making online-course activity, worked distant from personal computers.

: Education authorities in Norway endorse online courses for in‑service teachers to raise education standards and to promote digital competence. Naturally, these offerings present teachers with opportunities to integrate new theoretical perspectives and their professional experience in an online learning community. The inquiry into one's professional practice, enhanced by critical reflection in a group of fellow professionals, is considered essential for a lifelong learning practitioner, however, the emerging examples of instructional design tend to prioritise content delivery rather than professional discourse. In this paper, we demonstrate how the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework could be adopted to transform learning design, which prioritises the delivery of individual assignments, into a more collaborative learning experience. Using the CoI instructional design principles and the associated questionnaire, we have investigated student perceptions of learning via an online course and formulated recommendations about how the course design can be refined to promote learning in the community. Despite the modest evidence, this investigation can serve as an example of how a concrete learning design can be improved based on this validated e‑learning model.

Digital, virtual and E-learning elements have increasingly become a part in higher education and, most recently, the high potential of digitalization for processes of strategic internationalization of higher education institutions is coming into focus. The collaborative project of three German universities, XYZ, is working on strategies for the internationalization and virtualization of engineering education. While these topics used to be different key areas of the project, a combination of both distinguished itself as a potential new working field. This paper introduces two pilot concepts that were implemented and evaluated at the universities Y and Z which both aim at the complementation of incoming students’ experiences in Germany by digital means. At Y, a transnational online class explores means of preparing degree-mobile engineering students from all over the world for their master’s studies in Germany. At Z, an online course was designed to accompany a summer school research exchange for US-American engineering students in order to prolong their short-term mobility by digital elements. These pilot projects were well-accepted by students and faculty at both universities and their evaluations between 2014 and 2017 have revealed valuable results for further optimization. This paper presents the results and discusses future potential.

From the beginning of the 21st century, digital competencies are perceived as a "requirement and right," as a "life/basic skill". The purpose of this article is to justify the creation of a blitz-survey, designed and conducted to determine the level of digital competence of students. The completed research will try to answer the question of how training in Faculty of Engineering and Technology develops the digital competence of students - future engineers, which factors influence the development and attitudes to improve this type of competence. The spectrum of components in the digital competencies is defined when developing the conceptual model of the study. The research model also reflects European documents in this area, the needs, and requirements of the labour market related to the training of engineers and the new approaches and paradigms in higher education. The questions were provisionally divided into seven sections, which also have connecting links. At this stage, the study was carried out with 280 students. The end goal of the scientific research is to suggest strategies for adapting the training of the students to the European requirements and the needs of the labour market in order to improve their employment status, their adaptiveness, and their professional development.

This article reports on the use of blended learning in higher education. Blended learning has become popular in higher education in recent years. It is a move beyond traditional lecturing to incorporate face-to-face learning with e-learning, thereby creating a blend of learning experiences. The problem is that learning in higher education is complex and learning situations differ across contexts. Whilst there is face-to-face contact at some institutions, others offer distance learning or correspondence learning. In each context, the mode of learning may differ. The challenge is to cater for various learning opportunities through a series of learning interactions and to incorporate a blended approach. The aim of this study was to examine various ways of defining blended learning in different contexts. This was done through an examination of experiences of the use of blended learning in different higher education contexts. The study presents a case of blended learning in a postgraduate course. The experiences from all these cases are summarised and conclusions and recommendations are made in the context of blended learning in higher education in South Africa.
