Abstract: This paper presents a descriptive research study on the perceptions of a group of 171 primary school teachers about their creativity. In particular, the research focused on beliefs related to the nature of creativity, its importance in education, and the benefits that it offers, both individually and socially. The main objective is to ascertain whether their perceptions correspond with current research on creativity, or alternatively with outdated concepts. In addition, the participants were asked about the methodologies that they consider to be effective for developing creativity. As an instrument, a Likert-style questionnaire with two open-ended questions at the end was used. The results indicate that most of the teachers consider creativity to be very important, however, certain ideas based on an archaic understanding of creativity still exist. Similarly, there is a lack of knowledge about teaching methodologies that can be employed to develop creativity. Keywords:teachers’ beliefs, creativity, primary education, creative methodologies.   http://dx.doi.org/10.7203/eari.9.12224

In the foreword, we outline the situation in the field of education in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, so that we can later in the text further analyse the goals and visions of the school reform efforts of teachers organized in local associations and two prominent pedagogical theorists. In doing so, we limit ourselves to the activities of primary school teachers and primary school legislation. In the central part of the text we describe the efforts to improve the financial and status position of teachers, the efforts to systematically reform primary education, the efforts to overcome the ideological divisiveness of the two most powerful teacher associations, and the efforts to unify teachers' associations throughout the kingdom. At the end, we outline the three most important programming texts on the reform of education in the new country and try to identify the pedagogical theoretical influences that are characteristic of the period between the two wars.
