This study analyzes the term of address ustad in Indonesian culture. Indonesia’s religious-themed movies may represent the use of the term of address ustad in daily conversation. In particular, this study aims to describe the patterns of form, the patterns of use, and the social values of the term of address ustad in film utterances. The data of the term of address ustad and its contexts are collected from the utterances in Indonesia’s four Islamic-themed movies. This descriptive qualitative study uses sociopragmatics approach in identifying the functions of the term of address in film discourse. The context of the utterances that contain the term of address ustad is identified using Hymes’ (1972) S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G model. This study concludes that: (1) form patterns of the term of address ustad include incomplete form ‘Stad’; title ‘Ustad’; kinship term + title, e.g. ‘Pak Ustad’, and title + personal name, e.g. ‘Ustad Syamsul’; (2) the term of address ustad has two functions: showing respect and showing closeness; (3) there are six characteristics of people who are commonly addressed as ustad in Indonesia, including Quran private teachers, prayer leaders, teachers in pesantrens (Islamic boarding schools), Islamic preachers in mosques, Islamic preachers in television shows, and pesantren leaders in villages; (4) the terms of address ustad is a title held at any time regardless of the situation. An ustad is still addressed as ustad even though he is not preaching at that moment.

Abstract Background Reddit is a highly visited social news and discussion website where individuals anonymously ask questions, post opinions and share experiences, which provide a valuable pool of publicly available data. Our objective was to systematically search and analyze threads on the social news website, Reddit, to understand experiences of individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) regarding their mental health. Methods We conducted a patient-oriented descriptive qualitative study. We identified threads from two subreddits, “r/Thritis” and “r/Rheumatoid”, using keywords such as “mood”, “mental health”, “stressed”, “depressed”, “anxious” over a 1-year period between June 2018 and June 2019. For included threads, we extracted the title, original post, and corresponding comments and responses. We applied thematic analysis using an inductive approach. Results Of 81 threads identified, we included 27. We identified four themes: 1) Navigating the management of RA explores how the physical impacts of the disease, lack of health resources/support and the complexity of medications affect mental health; 2) Experiencing impact on relationships and social isolation includes experiencing misconceptions of RA, feeling misunderstood and feeling guilt; 3) Experiencing loss, touches on the helplessness brought by challenges with performing self-defining activities such as self-care, work, and childbearing/parenting; and finally, 4) Experiencing emotional struggles captures how tension between fighting through and despair has led some to suicide ideation and thoughts of death. Conclusions Online forums and communities such as Reddit have created opportunities for individuals with RA to share experiences on mental health matters, which they may not necessarily be able to share with others.

<span>Zakat fitrah is a compulsory zakat that muslims neet to do. Zakat fitrah should be made to Amil zakat or the committee appointed to handle zakat. This is so taht distribution is even and right on terget. This study aims to analyze socially and religiously so that a common thread will be obtained about the suitability of zakat distribution practices in research location. This research is a qualitative study that describes the data in detail based on the findings in the field. The distribution of zakat for the dukun in Jamus village can be analyzed from social and religious analyzes, in addition to gratitude for the people who have been helped by the dukun, also on average the dukun helps with a sense of sincerity and with great selflessness. The social analysis is understood that most of the people who give zakat fitrah to the dukun are because of their emotional closeness because they have been helped a lot by the dukuns. In this case social interaction is very well guarded. Broadly speaking, the social values practiced by most people are based on the values of sympathy, empathy, and respect. Religious analysis in the practice of distributing zakat fitrah to traditional birth attendants in the Jamus village becomes invalid if it is intended for zakat fitrah, but if the gift is in the form of shodaqoh or infaq it may be done.</span>

Abstract Background: Despite the speculations in literature regarding the importance of “social undesirability of hookah smoking”, to our knowledge, no study has yet clearly attempted to define this phenomenon and to make sense of it in terms of the meanings adolescents bring to the concept. The present study was aimed to explore the perceptions of high school students on Social Undesirability of Hookah Smoking (SUoHS).Method: In this qualitative study, 31 students (16 boys and 15 girls) at the range of 15 to 17 years of age in Tabriz, Iran, were invited to participate in semi-structured individual interviews (18 participants) and focus group discussions (FGDs) (13 participants). The data were managed applying MAXQDA-10, and analyzed using interpretative thematic analysis. Results: The SUoHS was viewed at the “highly negative attitude towards hookah smoking and hookah smokers”. The students also explained the SUoHS in “the disvaluing to hookah smoking and smokers in the society”, “the negative attitude towards hookah smokers and their families”, and “the consequences of hookah smoking”. Conclusion: The SUoHS originates from the social context of society, and is rooted from the social values and norms within communities. These social values may affect the attitude and subjective norms of adolescents toward the behavior. Adolescents’ conceptions on SUoHS should be considered while designing hookah smoking prevention/cessation programs with the hope to bridge the gap between their recognition of SUoHS and subsequent behavior change.

Abstract  : The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the social values contained in the Kasungki expression in the Muna Community of Karoo Village, Kontukowuna District. This research is a field research. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study are data in the form of spoken language which is spoken directly by parents (customary stakeholders). Sources of data in this study were obtained from customary and indigenous stakeholders in Karoo Village, Kontukowuna District. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interview, record, and note taking techniques. The results in this study were obtained from the social values contained in the expression of kasungki in the Muna Village Karoo community, Kontukowuna District which includes 1. cooperation, 2. care for the fate of others, 3. like to pray for others. Keywords: kasungki; value; social value

This descriptive-qualitative study aims at describing the linguistic form on news title. Related to data classification, this study uses segmenting immediate constituents technique. This technique is also utilized to separate the elements of the sentence function. The data is combined based on the similarities of their pattern and category. Furthermore, in order to classify the similarity of the meaning on the phrase or clause on title, this study provides the paraphrase and substitutes the constituent position of function in clause to recognize the arrangement. Moreover, in identifying the constituent of omitted clause, the technique is by inserting or expanding the structure of the title. The variation of the linguistic form is also based on whether or not the figurative language of the title appears. The news title is written by considering these several aspects: phonology, lexicon, grammatical, sentence modus, cohesion, and figurative language. Those aspects are intended to fulfill several functions, such as informing, influencing, preserving the social connection between the server and the receiver of the information or delivering the response about a phenomenon. Based on these several aspects, the characteristics of the linguistics of the titles give the practically ease of understanding for those who are learning to write the straight news discourse.

The Minangkabau community has long been known for its oral tradition. Through this, advice, manners and social values are integrated from generation to generation. One variety of this tradition is the expression of prohibitions. This study aimed to describe the structure of people’s belief in prohibition expressions about the human body and medicines in Kanagarian Pasir Baru; the social function of oral tradition in the form of prohibition expressions about the human body and medicines in Kanagarian Pasir Baru. This type of research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. Data in this study were obtained from interviews with the native speakers. The steps of data collection can be categorized as follows: data inventory, preliminary analysis, recording, transliteration, interviews and reporting.  The results of the analysis indicate the structure of prohibition expressions about the human body and medicines in Kanagarian Pasir Baru was divided into two forms, namely two parts and three parts. Moreover, the social function of people's belief in prohibition expressions about the human body and medicines such as a) the belief enhancement function, b) the imaginary projection system, c) the educational function, d) the inhibit function, and e) the entertainment function.

Main Message

Popular novels are often underestimated because they are considered dry with valuable life values for their readers. This study aims to describe the social values contained in Asma Nadia’s novel Bidadari untuk Dewa. This type of research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The social values that were used as references in this study are those stated by Zubaedi (2012). The results showed that the three social values such as love, responsibility and life harmony were exist in the novel. The most dominant social value found is the value of caring for others which is included in the value of affection (Love). This is in line with the main message in the novel, which is to help others.

This study aims to describe the values of character education in the tale “The Pigeon and The Red Ant” that is concerned with child psychology development. This study is qualitative study using descriptive method. This study focus to character in tale ““The Pigeon and The Red Ant” that is concerned with child psychology development in the first their growth age. The social values as help each other, care, creative, and response to phenomenon of around that is found in this tale can create good personality for children in develpment of their psychology.
