This article analyzes how health monitoring by tablet computer of COPD patients can contribute to safety and coping. The aim is to document and discuss experiences from users and the project team member who is also a nurse, with the use of telecare technology. The study was qualitative, using in-depth interview and short enquetes. Results show that the users increased their understanding of their physical condition and got better control of their illness. Accordingly, they coped better and felt more secure. Their level of activity was hardly affected even though one patient argued that the monitoring helped her adapt the level of activity to her present physical condition. Based on this study, we have, however, no significant indication that health monitoring by the use of tablet computer may reduce hospitalization and readmission rates.

The present study makes an attempt to understand the Relationship between Caretaker Variable on Occupation and Coping Strategies of Caretakers Attending to Patients with Cancer Problems. Caretakers who were ready and willing to extend their cooperation for in-depth interview were selected as population for the study. Thus a total number of 80 caretakers were selected purposively for conducting the present study. The results revealed that caretakers used both approach and avoidance coping styles. Higher the occupational status of the care taker, better were the coping strategies i.e. they were using more approach coping strategies.

AbstractObjective:The objective of this study was to explore and contrast the experience and meaning of breathlessness in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or lung cancer at the end of life.Method:We conducted a qualitative study embedded in a longitudinal study using topic-guided in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of patients suffering from breathlessness affecting their daily activities due to advanced (primary or secondary) lung cancer or COPD stage III/IV. All interviews were audiotaped, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using framework analysis. Results:Ten COPD and eight lung cancer patients were interviewed. Both groups reported similarities in their experience. These included exertion through breathlessness throughout the illness course, losses in their daily activities, and the experience of breathlessness leading to crises. The main difference was the way in which patients adapted to their particular illness experience and the resulting crises over time. While COPD patients more likely sought to get their life with breathlessness under control, speaking of daily living with breathlessness under certain conditions, the participating lung cancer patients often faced the possibility of death and expressed a need for security.Significance of Results:Breathlessness leads to crises in patients with advanced disease. Although experiences of patients are similar, reactions and coping mechanisms vary and are more related to the disease and the stage of disease.

Several studies show that EFL novice teachers often feel stress as they encounter shock from the rapid shift of a student to a teacher. Stress experienced by EFL novice teachers occurs because of internal or external factors. Stress which cannot be regulated will result in teacher burnout that can lead them to leave the profession. This qualitative study intended to investigate EFL novice teachers’ stress factors and coping strategies which influence their professional identity construction. The data was obtained by conducting an in-depth interview with three EFL novice teachers. The findings showed that EFL novice teachers experienced stress because of three factors, namely, personal, interpersonal, and organization factors. Despite feeling stress, EFL novice teachers demonstrated their abilities to cope with the circumstances. The participants elaborated how they cope with the situations as well as how stress factors influenced their identity as teachers. This study provides some suggestions for future researchers and EFL novice teachers.

Introduction: The connection between physical condition, coping strategies and emotional intelligence is widely studied in the international literature, but comparative research data collected among Transylvanian and Hungarian adolescents are not available in contemporary psychological literature. Aim: The aim of the authors was to study health indicators, emotional intelligence and coping strategies among adolescents and analyse connections between these factors and physical condition as part of an international research. Method: The physical condition, coping strategies and emotional intelligence of 390 individuals, aged between 13 and 19 years living in Debrecen (Hungary) and Érmihályfalva (Romania) were observed. Results: adaptive (i. e. problem-focused) coping strategies used in stressful situations resulted in lower depression rates, as well as better mental well-being than the maladaptive ones such as emotional clearing, self-punishment, distraction of attention. Adolescents showing higher emotional intelligence had lower depression levels and better mental well-being. Conclusions: Institutionally initiated emotional intelligence and coping strategy development for young people may prove to be an important preventive interventional public health programme. This may serve as a basis to assist health-consciousness and personality formatting. Orv. Hetil., 2014, 155(34), 1353–1360.

This study investigates how and when project leader workplace anxiety influences project team member organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Drawing from social information processing theory and the dual process model, we propose that project leader workplace anxiety negatively affects project team member OCB via job frustration and career adaptability. We also propose that project team member core self-evaluation moderates these hypothesized relationships. We test our hypotheses using multisource and time-lagged data from a sample of 269 matched project leader-member dyads. Theoretical and practical implications and future research directions are discussed.
