This paper reports on a case study investigating distance learners participating in graduate-level hybrid synchronous instruction. This research helps inform the design of hybrid synchronous instruction in which face-to-face and distance learners engage in class sessions. Data were collected using electronic journals, individual interviews, and a focus group. The results of the data analysis provide evidence that in this case, hybrid synchronous instruction improved the study habits of distance learners. On the other hand, the case study results also revealed that there are challenging pedogogical aspects which the distance learners had to overcome during hybrid synchronous instruction. Among such challenges were the interactions, relationships, and communication exchanges between distance learners, their face-to-face counterparts, and the instructor.

This research aims at describing the correct use of directional complements and elaborating the diversity and meanings of compound directional complement (CDC) used in Mandarin learners' interlanguage. This research is a case study on the essay of  Universitas Indonesia Chinese Study Program students. Results were obtained through qualitative data analysis method supported by simple calculation. Learners’ accuracy was reflected in identifying the direction of action, ordering the constituents in a sentence with directional complement, and selecting the motion verb. Meanwhile, inaccuracy appeared in four categories: misselection, misordering, overinclusion, and blends. On the other hand, the use of directional complements with literal meaning was very diverse, but not so for the metaphorical ones. Although the frequency of the metaphorical use of CDC was higher than the literal ones, there was a lack of the variation in the type of CDC used by the learners.

Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Phenomenology is a research design that is used to reveal cases that we are aware of but we do not have in-depth knowledge of it. For research purposes, the sample of the research consists of 10 academicians working as lecturers in various departments with a Vocational School of Technical Sciences of a university in Turkey. As a data collection tool, Semi-Structured Interview Form on Digital Literacy developed by Kozan (2018) was used with the permission of the researcher. In the context of the conceptualisation of the collected data, the thematic content analysis method was used. At the end of the study, it was revealed that all of the academicians who are working in the study group are familiar with the concept of digital literacy and they are ready to participate in the training to be given to them by relevant institutions and organisations.   Keywords: Digital literacy, Academics, 0pinion, Phenomenology Study.
