The study evaluated the performance of Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Scheme in Kogi State, Nigeria. A multi-stage random sampling technique was used to select 300 insured farmers. Primary and secondary data were used for the study. Data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using both descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The services provided by the scheme include; subsidized livestock, subsidized crops, commercial livestock, commercial crops, multiple cover, motor liability, fire, and special peril, general accident, engineering and bonds, and special risks. However, the study showed that insured farmers in the state were only engaged in subsidized crops (94.7%), subsidized livestock (44.3%), multiple covers (17.7%), and commercial crops (1.7%). The findings further showed that 92.7% of the insured farmers used the scheme occasionally. The purpose of the study was to examine the influence of board audit committee characteristics on the financial performance of selected commercial banks in Ghana during the period of 2008 to 2017. The correlational design was employed. The study population was 23 commercial banks licensed under the Bank and Special Deposit Taking Institution Act with audit committee on their board and offices in Ghana as at December 2018. The sample size for the study was 13 commercial banks in Ghana. The lottery method of simple random sampling technique was used to select the 13 banks. The study made use of only secondary data. Statistical tools such as means, standard deviations, Pearson product moment correlation, and linear multiple regression analysis were used to analyse the data. The findings of the study revealed that when banks audit committee increase the frequency of their meetings, increase the number and quality of financial qualifications of member on board and also increase the size of the audit committee members on total board membership, it will have a significant influence on the banks’ financial performance. It was recommended to Bank of Ghana (BoG) and managers of the various commercial banks to ensure that audit committee members are independent, meaningfully represented at boards of the banks, and are people with expertise in accounting/finance.

The Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme (CPIS) is a mechanism, devised to endow effective risk management aid, to those coconut growers who are likely to be impacted by non-preventable natural factors as well as pests and diseases. This study analyses the perception of the stakeholders for drawing empirical validity, so as to appraise sustainability of CPIS as a measure towards financial inclusion. 528 samples, encompassing Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Maharashtra states, classified into three regions, were taken using multi-stage proportionate random sampling technique with a view to develop a recurrent scheme to assist the coconut growers. Analyses and inferences, based on Factor Analysis, point out that growers across the regions are convinced that the scheme is necessary for a crop like coconut and, accordingly, the scheme seems to have achieved its goal.

The need to develop a sustainable exploitation system for the Nigerian rubber farmers requires that extension services should be available to assist the farmers in specific areas that can help them function effectively and improve productivity. The study investigated the perceived extension needs of rubber production farmers in Delta state Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were to determine sources of information on rubber production, varieties of rubber clones cultivated by the respondents, perceived extension needs of rubber farmers, and constraints to rubber production. A multi stage sampling technique was used to select 120 rubber farmers as respondents for the study. Data were analysed using frequency, percentages, means and Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis. Results showed that majority of the respondents (85.5%) were male, married (83.3%) and had average farming experience of 14 years. The NIG801 and NIG800 varieties were the local clones majorly cultivated and the GT1 and PB217 varieties were the exotic clones majorly cultivated. Findings also showed that respondents need production information on use of formic acid for latex coagulation (66.7%), use of ammonia for latex preservation (73.3%) and marketing information (60.8%). The constraintsindicated by the respondents were problem of land tenure (81.7%), lack of adequate credit facilities (70%), fire outbreaks (72.5%) among others. The result of the hypothesis showed that age (r = 0.199) had a positive significant relationship with farmers’ extension needs. It was recommended that extension personnel should be trained on techniques of rubber production in order to deliver effectively to the farmers. Key words: extension needs, rubber, farmers, Delta, Nigeria

The study has made an attempt on resource use and economic efficiency of cucumber production under poly-house farming and open field farming. Primary data collected by using purposive sampling technique from selected districts. Sample of 50 farmers (25 Poly-house farmers and 25 Open field farmers) was taken from each district on the basis of availability. Secondary data was collected from Horticulture Department. For data analysis statistical tools average, percentage and Linear Cobb-Douglas Production Function was used. The study found that the yield of cucumber was more under poly-house farming as compare to open field farming system. The reason behind this was long harvesting period and more number of fruits per plant under poly-house farming conditions. The data specifies higher net returns per acre of cucumber under poly-house farming over open field farming, which implicit poly-house farming not only highly profitable but also economically viable as compared to open field farming in study area.
