Aims: To investigate the effect of temperature on the mycelial growth of the highly prized mushroom, Tricholoma matsutake, in soil medium. Methodology: Seven strains of T. matsutake collected from different areas of Japan were incubated in soil medium at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30°C for 89 day. After incubation, the linear growth of mycelia from the inoculum was measured on vertical lines under a dissecting microscope and classified by the cultivation day number to obtain the growth rate in each vial. The mycelial densities in the soil medium in all the vials were analyzed using qPCR to determine the mycelial biomass. Results: The mycelial growth of T. matsutake strains was mainly observed at 5–25°C. The optimum temperatures for linear mycelial growth and for the increase in mycelial density were 19.6°C and 17.6°C, respectively. These values were lower than those reported previously for T. matsutake grown on agar medium or in liquid medium. These optimum temperatures showed no clear relationship with the mean air temperature at the site of strain collection. Conclusion: It can be suggested that a temperature around 18°C is suitable for cultivation of T. matsutake mycelia in the soil medium.

"The effect of temperature on the mycelial growth of two isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metch.) Sorok. (Hypocreales, Clavicipitaceae) was evaluated in vitro on PDA growth medium, by measuring the diameter of the fungal colonies, at the following temperature values: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 °C, over 14 days under constant conditions. The data obtained were used for the calculation of the growth rate (mm/day) using linear regression. The representation of the values corresponding to the minimum, optimal and maximum temperature of vegetative growth was made by a curve described by a mathematical function, a modified beta (ß) function. The lowest temperatures at which growth occurs are 7 and 10°C, the highest is 35.7°C; temperature at which the most growth occurs, as indicated by the measurements, was distributed over a range of temperatures from 22.9 to 31°C."

Aspergillus flavus strains were isolated from locally available poultry feeds. Effect of temperature, pH and culture media on growth of Aspergillus flavus was studied. Temperature ranged from 4-42°C (4, 10, 20, 25, 30, 37 and 42°C) was examined. Except for 4°C and 10°C, the isolate was able to grow for the whole temperature range. The growth was maximum at 25°C and was influenced with increasing or decreasing of temperature from 42°C to 20°C.The lag time was strongly influenced by the temperature at lower temperature level than at higher temperature range. Effect of pH on growth of Aspergillus flavus was also examined; from comparison of 3 different pH levels, it is concluded that at most temperatures pH 6.5 showed a higher growth rate and as a consequence required a shorter time to achieve maximum colony diameter. No significant variations in the lag time were observed. A natural poultry feed meal agar medium (FMAM) was developed in the laboratory and growth of A. flavus was compared with other 2 synthetic dehydrated media namely; Czapek’sdox Agar (CDA) and potato dextrose Agar (PDA). Poultry feed meal agar medium showed better growth response than Czapek’sdox agar and potato dextrose agar at all conditions. At 25°C and pH 6.5 found optimum for growth of Aspergillus flavus in feed meal agar medium whereas, temperature 30°C and pH 6.5 found optimum for growth for Czapek’sdox agar media and temperature 30°C and pH 6 showed high growth rate on potato dextrose agar. 1. Twelve castrated male pigs were kept at each of three temperatures and given food at one of three levels of intake. The temperatures and daily food intakes (expressed as g/kg0.73) were 23° (80, 100, 120), 13° (100, 120, 140), 3–5° (120, 140, 160). Growth and nitrogen metabolism were measured during growth from 20 kglive weight until slaughter at gokg live weight, when the body contents of N and fat were estimated.2. Growth rate increased with each unit of daily food intake (I g/kg0.73 live weight) by 7.73 ± 0.74 g/d. This value did not vary significantly with temperature. Daily growth rate was depressed by 17.8 ± 2.3 g for each I° fall of temperature.3. Daily N retention estimated by the balance method exceeded by 2.59 g/d that estimated by the comparative slaughter technique. Both results led to the same conclusion, which echoed that found with growth rate, that there was no significant effect of temperature on the response of N retention to increasing food intake. Taking the mean of the two estimates, N retention at a constant food intake fell by 0.38±0.055 g/d for each I° fall of temperature.4. The N content of the ingesta-free carcass at slaughter fell with each increase in daily food intake by 0.007±0.002%, and the fat content rose correspondingly by 0.116±0.027%. These regressions did not vary significantly with temperature. When considered at a constant food intake, body composition did not alter significantly with temperature.

Objective: To assess the incidence of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) through the example of a large industrial Russian city.Methods: A retrospective analysis of CSC of Kazan population for 2009–2018 has been done.Results: From 2019 to 2018, 831 new cases of CSC were registered in Kazan. A statistically significant upward trend with growth rate 105.2% and accession rate 5.2% was typical for the annual track record. The mean age of patients was 50 years, the minimum age was 14 years, the maximum age was 87 years. A statistically significant upward trend was detected in track record of incidence in groups of 30–39-year-old and 40–49-year-old. Seasonal increase of the incidence was recorded in February, March, April, October, and November.Conclusions: The upward trend and seasonal prevalence are typical for longterm morbidity of CSC in Kazan. The highest morbidity rate of CSC and statistically significant upward trend of its incidence in track record were recorded in the age of 30–39.

Crystal growth rates of copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO4.5 H2O) determined by different authors and methods are compared. The methods included in this comparison are: (i) Measurement on a fixed crystal suspended in a streaming solution, (ii) measurement on a rotating disc, (iii) measurement in a fluidized bed, (iv) measurement in an agitated suspension. The comparison involves critical estimation of the supersaturation used in measurements, of shape factors used for data treatment and a correction for the effect of temperature. Conclusions are drawn for the choice of values to be specified when data of crystal growth rate measurements are published.

Lead iodide was precipitated from aqueous solutions of 0.015 - 0.1 M Pb(NO3)2 and 0.03 - 0.2 M KI in the equimolar ratio using a laboratory model of a stirred continuous crystallizer at 22 °C. After reaching the steady state, the PbI2 crystal size distribution was measured sedimentometrically and the crystallization kinetics was evaluated based on the mean particle size. Both the linear crystal growth rate and the nucleation rate depend on the specific output of the crystallizer. The system crystallization constant either points to a significant effect of secondary nucleation by the mechanism of contact of the crystals with the stirrer blade, or depends on the concentrations of the components added due to the micromixing mechanism.

Nickel deposited on carbon has been used as adsorbent to recover Zn (II) from aqueous system. The adsorbent was synthesized by depositing nickel nitrate on carbon under inert conditions and decomposing it to nickel by raising the temperature, washing and vacuum drying. Various techniques including XRD, FTIR, and SEM were employed for its characterization. FTIR showed that the nickel deposition enhanced the carbon functionalization due to presence of OH, C=O and C-O groups.Average crystallite size ofabout 9 nm was determined from XRD. Nickel deposition resulted in further division particles as indicated from the morphological study. Zn (II) was subjected to adsorptionon the synthesized adsorbent. It was observed that the rate of adsorption increased significantly on the nickel deposited carbon than the carbon alone. Morris-Weber, Lagergren and Reichenberg models were applied to find out the type and rate of adsorption employingfirst and second order rate equations.The adsorption data were applied toLangmuir, Freundlich and D-R isotherms and values of isotherm constants were calculated and were higher for Ni/C than carbon alone. The mean free energy of zinc sorption on carbon and Ni/C are 16.67 and 18.26 kJmol-1 which shows chemisorption. Thermodynamic studies were done to find out the effect of temperature on sorption. Positive values of ΔH and negative values of ΔG show endothermic and spontaneous type of sorption.

Microborings in the Late Ordovician tabulate corals Catenipora rubra (a halysitid) and Manipora amicarum (a cateniform nonhalysitid) and in an epizoic solitary rugose coral differ from nearly all of those previously reported in Paleozoic corals. These microborings were formed within the coralla by endolithic algae and fungi located beneath living polyps. Comparable structures in the Late Ordovician tabulate Quepora ?agglomeratiformis (a halysitid) represent algal microborings, not spicules, and halysitids are corals, not sponges as suggested by Kaźmierczak (1989).Endolithic algae in cateniform tabulates relied primarily on light entering through the outer walls of the ranks rather than through the polyps; lacunae within coralla permitted appropriate levels of light to reach many corallites. The direction of boring was determined by corallum microstructure and possibly also by the distribution of organic matter within the skeleton. There is an apparent inverse correlation between boring activity and coral growth rate.The location and relative abundance of pyritized microborings within calcareous coralla can be established quantitatively and objectively from electron microprobe determinations of weight percent sulfur along appropriate traverses of the coral skeleton. The distribution of such microborings in Catenipora rubra and Manipora amicarum is comparable to algal banding in modern corals; this is the first report of such banding in the interiors of Paleozoic corals. Change in the intensity of boring within each corallum was evidently a response to variation in the linear growth rate of the coral, or to fluctuation in an environmental factor (perhaps light intensity) that could control both algal activity and growth rate in these corals. Change in the algal boring intensity and linear growth rate of the coral was generally but not always seasonal and usually but not invariably associated with change in the density of coral skeletal deposition.Cyclic bands of boring abundance maxima within fossil colonial corals provide a measure of annual linear growth comparable to the widely accepted method based on skeletal density bands. Algal bands are more sporadically developed than density bands within and among coralla, thus increasing the difficulty of interpretation. Fluctuations in the abundance of algal microborings apparently provide a detailed record of changes in the linear growth rate of colonies and of individuals within colonies. Combined analyses of microboring abundance and skeletal density will contribute significantly to our understanding of the biological and environmental factors involved in endolithic activity and coral growth.

Five Phytophthora species comprising a total of 243 isolates (77 P. cinnamomi, 23 P. citrophthora, 18 P. multivora, 18 P. pini, and 107 P. plurivora) were screened for sensitivity to mefenoxam, fosetyl-Al, dimethomorph, dimethomorph + ametoctradin and fluoxastrobin using amended agar assays. Mefenoxam-insensitive isolates were detected within P. cinnamomi (4%), P. multivora (11%), and P. plurivora (12%) even at approximately 2.5x the recommended label rate. These isolates were also insensitive to higher (off-label) concentrations of fluoxastrobin. Concentrations of dimethomorph (400 g/mL) and dimethomorph + ametoctradin (100 g/mL) were mostly effective in mycelial growth inhibition, but two P. plurivora isolates were insensitive, suggesting that resistance management is required. All mefenoxam-insensitive isolates were sensitive to fosetyl-Al at the label rate. Surprisingly, the populations of P. cinnamomi from mid-Atlantic oak forests included insensitive isolates. With almost all species, isolates recovered from asymptomatic hosts (e.g., soil/potting media collected of randomly selected asymptomatic hosts) had a significantly greater relative growth rate when compared to isolates recovered from symptomatic hosts (e.g., isolates recovered from lesions or wilted plants). These findings suggest that mefenoxam should no longer be used to manage oomycetes in Maryland ornamental nurseries and that the use of fluoxastrobin should be limited.
