Abstract In this study, Al-0.80Mg-0.85Si alloy was modified with the addition of 0.3 wt.-% zirconium and the variation of microstructural features and mechanical properties were investigated. In order to produce the billets, vertical direct chill casting method was used and billets were homogenized at 580 °C for 6 h. Homogenized billets were subjected to aging practice following three stages: (i) solution annealing at 550 °C for 3 h, (ii) quenching in water, (iii) aging at 180 °C between 0 and 20 h. The hardness measurements were performed for the alloys following the aging process. It was observed that peak hardness value of Al-0.80Mg-0.85Si alloy increased with the addition of zirconium. This finding was very useful to obtain aging parameters for the extruded hollow profiles which are commonly used in automotive industry. Standard tensile tests were applied to aged profiles at room temperature and the results showed that modified alloy had higher mechanical properties compared to the non-modified alloy.

Engineering characterization which are useful for "temperate" zone soils usually fail to predict the field performance of bauxitic soils, because the index tests upon which the characterization are based are not always reproducible for bauxitic soils. Fifteen (15) bauxitic soil of undisturbed and disturbed samples from 3 distinct sites in Kuantan, all derived from basalt parent rock but representing various stages of weathering were subjected to engineering and mineralogic tests. Values for cohesion and friction angles are evaluated. Soils from Semambu has the highest moisture content of 33.27%, the cohesion value is however lower compared to Bukit Goh which has moisture content of 21.74%. Study are further done to discover the relationship with cohesion and friction angles. Thus, by measuring the cohesion and friction angle can evaluate the performance of bauxite shear strength.

Kampung Baru is one of the villages in Pekanbaru city that has the potential to develop large marine tourism. Its strategic location on the coast of Siak River and has a cultural reserve "RumahBatin" makes Kampung Baru as one of the new destinations of future historical tourism. The existence of Kampung Baru as a tourist destination is still not well exposed so there needs to be a touch of Science and improvement to accelerate its development. The purpose of this activity is to accelerate the development of marine tourism in Kampung Baru Village, Pekanbaru City. The method used is a survey method to identify activities and counseling methods to convey Science to the community. The stages of the implementation of the activity are divided into three stages of preparation, implementation and evaluation. The results of a quick survey conducted, to accelerate the development of marine tourism activities in Kampung Baru through the socialization of halal certificates, making and dividing trash cans, making and enforcing plank boards, planting trees and vegetable seedlings and cleaning inner houses. The implementation of the activity is doing well and on target this can be seen from the community and village officials in supporting this activity. With the integrated KUKERTA (Community Service), the neglected tourism potential of Kampung Baru can be reappointed as a marine tourism. This leads to the fact that the touch of Science through integrated KUKERTA (Community Service) is able to accelerate the development of marine tourism in Kampung Baru.

Research on the preparation and characterization of sulfonated polystyrene (PST) /chitosan vanillin (KV) composite as electrolyte membranes has been conducted in order to investigate the effect of PST and KV composition to its chemical and physical properties. Polystyrene was modified by sulfonation reaction to produces PST, meanwhile chitosan was modified by schift base reaction to produces KV. The composite membranes were prepared by casting method and were characterized in order to identify the functional groups contained in the composite, the cation exchange capacity (CEC), the Swelling Degree (SD), the thermal properties and the morphology. The peak of imine vibration in the FTIR spectrum indicates that the chitosan vanilin was succesfully synthesized. Meanwhile, the peak of sulfonate vibration indicates the product of sulfonation on polystyrene. The result of CEC analysis shows that the addition of sulfonate groups on polystyrene and the addition of phenolic groups on chitosan increase the CEC value. The increasing of PST and KV concentration in membrane enhance the CEC value. However, the increasing of PST concentration in membrane composition even decrease the Swelling Degree of membranes. Meanwhile, the increasing of KV concentration increase the swelling degree of membranes. Thermal analysis shows that the thermal decomposition of membranes occurs in three stages i.e. the dehydration of water molecules, the degradation of the subtituen groups and the plasticizer and the degradation of the back bone of chitosan and polystyrene.

Abstract Coastal inundation has a great impact on the environment, such as damage to infrastructure and pollution of land and water. One of the efforts to prevent coastal inundation is to predict the water level. Delft3D is a hydrodynamic model that's able to simulate the water level. Coastal inundation research using the Delft3D model is still rarely done in Indonesia, especially on the east coast of Sumatra. This research is conducted in Belawan coastal area by simulating the water level that caused the coastal inundation using the Delft3D model. The best bathymetry for the prediction of water level and the magnitude of the wind effect was obtained from the simulation. The final step is to predict the water level in Belawan coastal area. The result of this research shows that the Delft3D model can simulate the water level which causes the coastal inundation in the Belawan coastal area. The correlation of the Delft3D model is 0.9, and the RMSE of GEBCO bathymetry is 0.39 meters and the RMSE of NOAA bathymetry is 0.46 meters. The GEBCO bathymetry is better than NOAA bathymetry in describing the water level in the Belawan coastal area. The wind effect on the water level simulations is not significant because the coefficient of determination is 0.47%. Besides, the Delft3D model with GEBCO bathymetry input can predict the water level which causes the coastal inundation with correlation reaches 0.92 and RMSE is 0.39 meters.

AbstractSamples of abnormal mud crabs, Scylla serrata (Forskål, 1755) (Decapoda: Portunidae), were collected from crab farms in Samutsongkhram Province, Thailand. These crabs had hard carapaces, red chelipeds and joints, pale hepatopancreas, gills, and soft muscles. They were almost immobile and finally died. The haemolymph revealed three stages of the syndrome, namely orange, orange-white, and milky-white in colors. The haemolymph, integument, hepatopancreas, gills, abdominal and claw muscle, stomach, and heart were dissected and histologically examined using transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Closer examinations found infection with rod-, curve rod-, or coccus-shape bacteria with thin and thick cell walls in all investigated organs and haemolymph. Isolation of the microorganisms from the infected tissues of red sternum syndrome crabs resulted in five types of bacteria. No microorganism growth was observed in normal crabs. Interestingly, the types of isolated bacteria can be classified according to the severity of the disease. Additionally, the degree of bacterial infection found was consistent with the stages of the disease. It was postulated that the bacteria entered the crabs via the gills, and then migrated through circulating haemocytes, before reaching the internal organs.
