In today's world of development any individual is in need of developing the employability skills in order to grow and settle in their profession. Their possession of hard skills such as education, experience and expertise does not guarantee them perfect job opportunities. Low proficient learners from Arts and Science Colleges find it difficult to get reasonable jobs because they lack employability skills. This is an attempt to analyze the role of technology in the development of employability skills particularly English vocabulary in the low proficient learners of Arts and Science College. 20 students from 3 different departments were given assignments to be done using 3 online tools. Assessment has been made to find out some difference in training the low proficient learners from Arts and Science. The result shows a tremendous change in attitude in learning vocabulary in the low proficient learners from Arts and Science. English vocabulary can be. The soft skills syllabus prescribed can be enriched and made more interesting especially for the low proficient learners with the addition of the online tool ‘Memrise” for learning vocabulary. This will pave a path to those that found learning English difficult.

Employability skills are among the important soft skills that should be acquired by employees in the industrial sector today. Unfortunately, Malaysian graduates do face obstacles when looking for employment upon graduation due to the absence of employability skills among them. The main aim of this study is to identify employers’ perceptions of the most important employability skills in the manufacturing industry. The study is also aimed to determine the differences between the important employability skills from the perspective of employers based on their gender, their company’s size, and types of companies in the manufacturing industry. In this study, a total of 182 employers from the manufacturing industry in Batu Pahat were chosen randomly. Questionnaires were administered to the employers. The data generated were statistically analysed using descriptive and inferential analyses. The analysis shows that employers’ perception of the most important employability skills in manufacturing industry is communication skills. The independent variables chosen are gender, company size, and types of manufacturing sector, while the dependent variable is the perceptions of important employability skills in the manufacturing industry. Results show that the perceptions of important employability skills in the manufacturing industry have no significant difference according to employers’ gender and type of manufacturing sector, but there is a significant difference for company size. This quantitative study provides key insights that enable future employees to have more understanding of the employment demand in the manufacturing industry nowadays and for employees to develop their employability skills before getting ready to enter the labour market.

Communication is a fundamental part of the working environment that comprises interpersonal relations and communication between groups and individuals and other social interactions within the active community. Communication and soft skills have become an important issue due to the lack of study and development, especially in the Landscape Architectural practice. It can be seen that the lack of communication and soft skills by current graduates has affected employability leading to a large quantity of unemployment and lack of advancement within the landscape industry. Hence, to keep up with the current trends of what employers seek within these landscape architecture graduates, it is believed that a paradigm shift in the training of students must take into account the development of Communication Skills within the curriculum to help aid the development of graduate employability skills. A method of assessing communication skills is also required to rate a Landscape Architect’s level of communication competence to further enhance the graduates’ career in the industry. In this fast transforming business economy caused by globalization, it has become incredibly important that employees keep on upgrading their hard skills and polish their soft skills if they aspire for a career that not only pays them well but also promises better opportunities in career development. Though the importance of soft skills is recognised in everyday life, in maintaining interpersonal relationships, in buildings strategies for success, its implications are mainly found in organisations and workplaces. Soft skills, however, play a significant role in building a career. Today to succeed and survive in the competitive workplace employees are expected to change their attitude, attention, and commitment to work. Besides, they are also expected to develop other abilities like effective communication skills, teamwork, leadership qualities, stress management, emotional intelligence etc. Competition is progressively increasing across workplaces worldwide. The need to be fit, flexible and existing is highly intrinsic. Soft skills thus help deal with challenges as they offer essential factors to influence the success of the employees and the organisations. This paper focuses on discussing the relevance of soft skills in career success, job satisfaction, creating a better work atmosphere and bringing about productivity at the workplace.

Universal competencies (“soft” skills), which must be developed in a modern specialist along with the professional ones are analyzed in the article. The importance and relevance of developing such skills as communication skills, the ability to work in a team, leadership qualities and others are justified. Practical examples of developing such skills in foreign language classes are presented.

Background: Studies showed that SCL improved quality of medical education through knowledge acquisition, class performance, students’ attitude and soft skills. Although research about SCL and its impact has been widely known, overall correlation of SCL to the class performances has not yet been established. Strong correlation between SCL to class performances would serve the purpose of teaching and learning and more importantly would answer the skepticism of institution or faculty members in implementing SCL. In addition, learning through systematic review of others’ studies, how SCL influenced soft skill aspects would be benefited for medical educators. Soft skills such as learning motivation, communication skills, and teamwork may lead educators to the favor of SCL approaches. This review was to find the correlation of student-centered learning to the students’ performances and soft skill aspects in medical education.Method: To find the correlation of the SCL and class performances, we used meta-analysis. We also performed a systematic review to qualitatively find the relationship between SCL and other aspects, such as teamwork, communication skills, and learning motivation. Literatures were filtered from databases of: Proquest, Springerlink, Biomed Central (BMC) open, BMJ open, and Google Scholar. The inclusion criteria were published empirical articles (2000-2013) reported SCL’s effect on class performances or other aspects (learning motivation, teamwork, communication skills). We utilized PRISMA protocol to filter the inclusion articles. By reading abstracts and further snowballing searching, we found 12 articles for the meta-analysis and 33 articles for the systematic review.                                                                 Results: Among 12 articles of the meta-analysis, 9 articles showed positive correlation between SCL and class performances. Three studies reported that SCL had no effect on the class performances. None of the articles reported any negative impact. We utilized the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software to analyze the data and found r = 0.46 and 95% CI: 0.32 - 0.57. It showed a statistically significant correlation between SCL and class performances. On the systematic review, we found that SCL improved communication skills, team work, and learning motivation.Conclusion: From the meta-analysis we found that SCL improved class performances about 46%. It was showed that SCL methods were superior in improving soft skills such as communication skills, teamwork, and learning motivation.

There is a call from society to examine the integrity behavior challenges of local government (LG) enforcement officers who work directly with citizens due to the nature of this job. One of the job requirements of enforcement officers is to investigate law enforcement directly to their customers, such as petty traders, hawkers, business owners, developers and contractors, and others. In executing their duties, particularly on law enforcement, high integrity behavior and professionalism of enforcement officers in LG administrative areas of responsibility are necessary. Based on the framework, the study aims to examine the integrity behavior challenges of enforcement officers from the citizens’ and staff’ perspectives, in particular, on to what extent the officers face the difficulties and challenges in executing their enforcement tasks. Thus, during the study, 30 respondents, namely the citizens and LG staff in Kedah, were surveyed. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to gain specific dimensions related to integrity behavior. From the citizens’ perspective on LG enforcement teams’ integrity behavior, challenges were related to main aspects such as biasness, political intervention, and bureaucracy matters. Meanwhile, LG staff consider integrity behavior challenges to be affected by opportunistic attitudes among staff, workforce, and financial issues. The study suggests that enforcement officers should develop soft skills, employability skills, and upgrade academic levels to understand the current situation and develop negotiation skills to deal with grassroots society.

Published narratives on doctor-as-patient experiences show that physicians become more empathetic once they have gone through the process of being a patient. In this article, in response to a published doctor-as-patient narrative, the author enquires into the possible reason for such empathy-in-hindsight. The objectified and structured medical education system which puts little emphasis on soft skills, a rapidly evolving technological-diagnostic revolution that is distancing the patient from the doctor and lacunae in development of communication skills in doctors come up as probable reasons for this. Narratives of physician-patients provide good learning points, especially with respect to the lacunae in the teaching of empathy, communication and humanities in medicine.

This study aims to provide a platform of undergraduates’ employability skills in non-Western context, specifically, in the UAE. Undergraduates who have completed 90 credit hours of the courses in bachelor studies from business and engineering colleges was randomly sampled in the biggest private university in Abu Dhabi. Questionnaires were distributed with an explanation of the purpose of the elements in the questionnaire to propose an AHP model for employability skills. Consistent with prior studies, communication skills, teamwork, problem solving, and technology was found to be significant and are considered as the upmost important employability skills for business and engineering undergraduates. The significant of the study is also discussed.

Training ESL students in soft skills and employability skills with the help of Web 2.0 technologies is the current trend in Indian educational institutions. Students, who aspire to grow to greater heights in the corporate world, have understood the importance of learning soft skills such as verbal and non-verbal communication as well as employability skills such as interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills to secure placements in leading companies. To meet these demands, teachers are required to play the role of facilitators of learning, and use innovative training methods. They no longer depend totally on textual materials but use advanced technological tools to supplement their teaching. The curriculum is designed to accommodate these innovations. Thus one finds more and more teachers using Web 2.0 technologies like podcasts, mobile phones, Wikis, blogs and Skype. Research studies conducted on the use of these Web 2.0 technology tools have shown the possibility of creating a virtual classroom and promoting students’ participatory learning in a more effective manner.
