Abstract According to a commonplace saying, software is eating the world. Is software also eating control engineering? Software is currently transforming many industries including but not limited to automotive aiming at automated mobility services, agriculture moving to Agriculture 4.0, and factory automation with Industry 4.0. Software is simultaneously a flexible and universal functions enabler, and a driver of engineering complexity. At times, it seems that control engineers and software engineers are not understanding each other well enough. This article discusses two key engineering domains adjacent to control, systems and software engineering, covering engineering practice, design data exchange, and education. Finally, it suggests an extension to academic control curricula help to make control graduates even better team players.

Man is seen in a broader aspect as being an imperfect scientist, inserted in a social reality, the subjects and their bonds are established in a territory in the search for quality of life. The objective of the study is to investigate the different perspectives elaborated in the approach to the binomial health and disease. Although they are very diverse due to the peculiarity of their cultural contexts, societies also have common characteristics. It requires the performance of certain universal functions, indispensable to the continuation of its course, among them health. It is very true that being healthy goes beyond not being affected by a type of illness, related to aspects such as culture, environment, congenital, genetic, among others, linked to the history of each individual. It is for this reason that health education should be the goal of health professionals for the individual, for the best of the collectivity.

The approximate solution of the nonlinear Thomas–Fermi (TF) equation for ions is found by the Fermi method. The solution is based on the new asymptotic representation of the TF ion size valid for any ionization degree. The two universal functions and their derivatives, introduced by Fermi, are calculated by recent effective algorithms for the Emden–Fowler type equations with the accuracy sufficient for majority of applications. The comparison of our results with those obtained previously shows high accuracy and validity for arbitrary values of ionization degree. This study could potentially be of interest for the statistical TF method applications in physics and chemistry.

The author demonstrates the fluctuations in the position of authority in modern and contemporary times, when the medieval model of “two bodies of the king,” or “two bodies of power” is relinquished. The article demonstrates how the formerly valid analogy between the body of the world and the human body began to disappear. This was facilitated by the scientific discourse of the 16th –17th centuries, which presented the body as an “organic machine” endowed with universal functions and structure.

1. Simulating the dynamics of realistically complex models of infectious disease is conceptually challenging and computationally expensive. This results in a heavy reliance on customized software and, correspondingly, lower reproducibility across disease modeling studies. 2. SPARSEMOD stands for SPAtial Resolution-SEnsitive Models of Outbreak Dynamics. The goal of our project, encapsulated by the SPARSEMODr R package, is to offer a framework for rapidly simulating the dynamics of stochastic and spatially-explicit models of infectious disease for use in pedagogical and applied contexts. 3. We outline the universal functions of our package that allow for user-customization while demonstrating the common work flow. 4. SPARSEMODr offers an extendable framework that should allow the open-source community of disease modelers to add new model types and functionalities in future releases.

AbstractWe establish generic existence of Universal Taylor Series on products $$\varOmega = \prod \varOmega _i$$ Ω = ∏ Ω i of planar simply connected domains $$\varOmega _i$$ Ω i where the universal approximation holds on products K of planar compact sets with connected complements provided $$K \cap \varOmega = \emptyset $$ K ∩ Ω = ∅ . These classes are with respect to one or several centers of expansion and the universal approximation is at the level of functions or at the level of all derivatives. Also, the universal functions can be smooth up to the boundary, provided that $$K \cap \overline{\varOmega } = \emptyset $$ K ∩ Ω ¯ = ∅ and $$\{\infty \} \cup [{\mathbb {C}} {\setminus } \overline{\varOmega }_i]$$ { ∞ } ∪ [ C \ Ω ¯ i ] is connected for all i. All previous kinds of universal series may depend on some parameters; then the approximable functions may depend on the same parameters, as it is shown in the present paper.
