Abstract A phytochemical investigation of the rhizomes of Curcuma zedoaria was carried out, leading to the isolation of a new diphenylheptanoid, zedoaroxane A (1), together with four known compounds (2–5). Their structures were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopic data. All isolated compounds possessed α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, with the IC50 values ranging from 35.2 to 89.0 µM, more potent than that of the positive control acarbose (IC50, 214.5 µM).

White turmeric (Curcuma zedoaria) is a type of plant whose extract contains compounds that can inhibit carcinogenesis. Acute toxicity test was conducted to determine the safe dose and lethal dose (LD) 50 from the use of a drug substance. This research aimed to determine the effect of the acute toxicity test of white turmeric extract on the histopathological imaging of the lungs. This study is an experimental study with a post test only control group design. A total of 30 Wistar rats was divided into six groups. Data analysis was using one-way ANOVA statistical test, while for lung histopathology using ordinal data which were analyzed descriptively. In conclusion, the acute toxicity test of white turmeric extract on Wistar rats was not toxic and there was no death and no toxic symptoms and no necrosis, congestion and inflammation were found on the histopathological picture of the lungs.

Madhumeha is a clinical entity described in Ayurveda under the types of Vataja Prameha. It is caused by the ag- gravation of Vata, the patient passes excess urine, which is sweet, astringent in taste, slightly turbid and pale in colour. Madhumeha can be correlated with an identical disease delineated in modern medical sciences as Diabetes Mellitus. DM has turned out to be the considerable silent killer today within the world. In Ayurveda it is de- scribed in Vataja Pramehas and can be managed conservatively with Modifications in diet, exercise, medication and lifestyle are all important factors in the successful treatment of type 2 diabetes and are assimilated into the ancient Indian medicinal practice of Ayurveda. Drugs like Chandraprabha (Curcuma zedoaria), Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre), Asana (Pterocarpus marsupium), Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Shilajit (Purified Bitumen), Khadir (Acacia catechu), Vacha (Acorus calamu), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Jambu (Syzygium cumini) are effective in controlling hyperglycemia. This study is consists of a brief classical picture of Madhumeha and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus along with its burden on society and classical management. Keywords: Chandraprabha, Diabetes Mellitus, Madhumeha, Prameha, Vataja.

Thân rễ của các loài Zingiber officinale Roscoe (ZO), Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Roscoe ex Sm. (ZZ), Curcuma clovisii Škornič (CC), Curcuma zedoaria (Christm.)

Streptococcus mutans is a microorganism that important in dental caries. Herbs are known to have antibacterial activity against oral bacteria. The rhizomes of Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria are two of the eight species of genus Curcuma that are most widely used as traditional herbal medicine in Indonesia. Both rhizomes have antibacterial activity against oral bacteria at a concentration of 12.5%. This study aimed to examine the inhibitory of Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria rhizomes extracts against the growth of Streptococcus mutants. The study was in vitro study. Both rhizomes got from the Experimental Garden of Balittro Manoko Lembang, West Java, Indonesia. The maceration was employed to obtain the extracts with the final extracts of both rhizomes at a concentration of 12.5%. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by using the agar well diffusion method. The positive control group was 0.2% Chlorhexidine and distilled water as a negative control group. The data obtained were then analyzed using the One Way ANOVA Test and Post Hoc Test. Results showed that chlorhexidine 0.2% had the largest mean diameter of the inhibition zone. Curcuma longa rhizome extract had a larger mean diameter of inhibition zone compared to Curcuma zedoaria rhizome extract. However, the difference in the mean values of the two rhizomes extracts was not statistically significant. Distilled water didn't have antibacterial activity. It can be concluded that both Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria rhizomes extracts at a concentration of 12.5% have antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans.
