Abstract. Heat treatment of ceramic-bond grinding tools during manufacture takes place at temperature of abrasive grains up to 1250 °C, which results in variation of their phase composition, structure, and strength. Similar phenomena may take place during grinding caused by the occurring high-temperature processes. It primarily pertains to alloyed fused alumina. X-ray and topography testing, as well as studying of micromechanical properties made it clear that structural performance, material strength, and fracture pattern of single grains of Ti-containing fused alumina affected by temperature depend on the type and ratio of alloy additives in alumina and on the decomposition level of the Ti2O3 solid solution. In terms of aggregate properties, purple varieties of Cr-Ti fused alumina featuring the minimum TiO2/Cr2O3 ratio of 1.5 in the solid solution after heat treatment are preferable.

Stocks are an investment that attract people because they can earn large profits by having claim rights to the company's income and assets so investors have to observe stock price movements in the future to achieve investment goals. One of the statistical methods for time series data modeling is ARIMA. However, modeling assumptions must be fulfilled to use that method so an alternative model is proposed, namely nonparametric regression model, which has no modeling assumptions requirement. In this study, the nonparametric regression multiscale autoregressive (MAR) with two different filter and decomposition level J are compared to choose the best model and forecast it. The data are closing stock price, high stock price and low stock price of BBRI’s stocks that divided into 2 parts, namely in sample data from March 19, 2020 to February 4, 2021 to form a model and out sample data from February 5, 2021 to March 23, 2021 used for evaluation of model performance based on MAPE values. The chosen best model for each stock price are the MAR model with  wavelet haar filter and decomposition level 5 for the closing stock price which produces a MAPE value of 1.194%, the MAR model with wavelet haar filter and decomposition level 5 for the high stock price which produces a MAPE value of 1.283%, and the MAR model with a wavelet haar filter and decomposition level 5 for the low stock price which produces a MAPE value of 1.141%, indicating that the models have excellent forecasting capability. In this study, Graphical User Interface (GUI) using R software with the help of shiny package is also built, making data analyzing easier and generating more interactive display output.

Nowadays, there are many methods to detect and diagnose defects in mechanical components during operation. The newest methods that can be found in the literature are based on intelligent classification systems and evaluation of patterns to obtain a diagnosis; however, there is not any standard method to assess features. Wavelet packet transform allows to obtain interesting patterns for evaluating the condition of rotating elements. To perform this calculation, it is necessary to select a series of parameters that affect the resulting pattern. These parameters are the decomposition level and the mother wavelet function. A detailed methodology for the selection of the mother wavelet is proposed, which is the aim of this work, to obtain the most suitable patterns in the diagnostic task. This proposed methodology is applied to data obtained from a rotating shaft with a crack located at the change of section. These signals were measured at low rotation frequency (below the critical rotation frequency) and without eccentricity, where detection becomes more complex.

The aim of this paper is to find the optimal mother wavelet function and wavelet decomposition level when denoising the Doppler cardiogram (DCG), the heart signal obtained by the Doppler radar sensor system. To select the best suited mother wavelet function and wavelet decomposition level, this paper presents the quantitative analysis results. Both the optimal mother wavelet and decomposition level are selected by evaluating signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) efficiency of the denoised signals obtained by using the wavelet thresholding method. A total of 115 potential functions from six wavelet families were examined for the selection of the optimal mother wavelet function and 10 levels (1 to 10) were evaluated for the choice of the best decomposition level. According to the experimental results, the most efficient selections of the mother wavelet function are “db9” and “sym9” from Daubechies and Symlets families, and the most suitable decomposition level for the used signal is seven. As the evaluation criterion in this study rates the efficiency of the denoising process, it was found that a mother wavelet function longer than 22 is excessive. The experiment also revealed that the decomposition level can be predictable based on the frequency features of the DCG signal. The proposed selection of the mother wavelet function and the decomposition level could reduce noise effectively so as to improve the quality of the DCG signal in information field.

Background/Objectives: Denoising of the wrist pulse is a significant preprocessing stage for accurate investigation of the disease. The objective is to improve and analyze performance metrics of denoising techniques. Methods/Statistical analysis: Denoising of wrist pulse with the evaluation parameters such as PSNR, SNR, AE and RMSE has been implemented using wavelets such as Daubechies, Symlet and Biorthogonal. The performance of wavelets depends on the choice of decomposition level N and thresholding techniques. Findings: Variance thresholding technique showed significant improvement in Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and reduction in Absolute Error (AE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) compared to other thresholding methods. Novelty/Applications: Experimental results showed drastic improvement in PSNR and SNR retaining the pathophysiological information of the wrist pulse signal for future analysis.

To better understand the effect of forest succession on carbon storage of woody debris (WD), carbon stock and allocation of evergreen broadleaf forest, a major zonal forest in subtropical China was investigated. Three forest types were sampled, pine (Pinus massoniana) forest (PF), pine and broadleaf mixed forest (MF) and evergreen broadleaf forest (BF). The amount of woody debris (WD) biomass was between 1.26–8.82 Mg · hm–2, under the following order: PF < MF < BF, showed a trend of increase gradually with the succession. Coarse woody debris (CWD) carbon content varies with tree species and its decomposition level, with the improvement of CWD decomposition level, gradually reduce its carbon content. The woody debris carbon storage of PF, MF, and BF were 0.62 Mg · hm–2, 1.75 Mg · hm–2 and 3.78 Mg · hm–2, respectively, corresponded to the tree carbon storage 0.73%, 1.83% and 2.92%.

A signal denoising method using improved wavelet threshold function is presented for microchip electrophoresis based on capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (ME-C4D) device. The evaluation results of denoising effect for the ME-C4D simulation signal show that using Daubechies 5 (db5) wavelet at a decomposition level 4 can produce the best performance. Furthermore, the denoising effect is compared with, as well as proved to be superior to, the existing techniques, such as Savitzky–Golay, Fast Fourier Transform, and soft threshold method. This method has been successfully applied to the self-developed ME-C4D equipment. After executing this method, the noise is cleanly removed, and the signal peak shape and peak area are well maintained.
