Based on the activities of the philosophical and legal club "Moral Dimension of Law," the author attempts to comprehend the reasons for the long-term charisma of this open, self-governing academic and educational organization operating on the basis of the university department of philosophy and sociology. The paper substantiates the idea that it is the ethical character, the corresponding motivated and consistent efforts in the direction of improving morality in law that determine the stable interest on the part of students (and not only students). Behind this lies the socio-cultural need for the reproduction and cultivation of spiritual bonds. At the moment of the unity of the objective (true values) and the subjective (freedom at the personal level), a spark of living creativity appears, which cannot be evoked somehow artificially and edifyingly. Persistent demonstration of the mission of restoring justice also attracts due to its opposition to the evil. It is also important to understand the importance of constant moral and philosophical examination of problems and situations, which is directly related to improving the quality of training professionals.

Advances in cancer treatment, particularly chemotherapeutics, are expected to lead to significant improvements in survival rates. While cancer incidence and death rates are decreasing, quality of life after cancer may be reduced due to early functional failure of the gonads and, consequently, infertility, resulting from either the disease itself or its treatment. This chapter introduces clinicians to the new field of oncofertility and the ethical issues it raises. It will consider the situation of young cancer patients facing reproductive consequences globally, the retrieval of gametes or gonadal tissue from minors, and the use of these tissues long term. The field of oncofertility is new, but ethical considerations regarding reproductive interventions are old. Understanding how we approach these issues on a personal level and from the public’s perspective will be assessed in this chapter.

ABSTRACTTwo challenges facing nursing-home care today are understanding the concept of quality of life as it relates to cognitively impaired residents and finding effective ways to ensure that it is achieved. Canadian director Allan King's documentary, Memory for Max, Claire, Ida and Company, filmed at Baycrest, captures a method for enhancing the quality of life of six cognitively impaired residents. While the film suggests an intervention model implemented by volunteers, there are challenges unique to institution-based programs (i.e., the recruitment and retention of volunteers). One of the challenges is the fear that volunteers may experience when interacting with the cognitively impaired. We conducted a pilot study of a model for training volunteers to provide friendly visiting and evaluated the impact on the participating residents. Observational accounts of volunteer–resident interactions and seven volunteer interviews were analysed and yielded several themes—(a) relationship building, (b) contribution of the environment, (c) preserving personhood, (d) resident-centred presence and the quality of the moment—and several themes related to the volunteers' role and their perceived impact on the residents. Discussed are the implications for volunteer programs in long-term health care settings.

Introduction/Objective. Jeune syndrome (JS) is a rare hereditary ciliopathy characterized by asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy, shortened limbs and brachydactyly. Extraskeletal anomalies such as chronic renal failure (CRF), hepatic fibrosis, and retinitis pigmentosa may be a part of the JATD phenotype. The aim of this study is to present long-term follow-up of JS patients with early progressive kidney disease. Methods. This is a retrospective study of pediatric patients with JS and CRF who were treated at the University Children?s Hospital between January 1980 and December 2014. The patients? data were retrospectively reviewed from the medical records. Results. There were thirteen patients from 11 families, five girls and eight boys mean aged 4.3 years at the time of diagnosis. All of the patients had characteristic skeletal findings, retinal degeneration and an early onset of CRF at age range from 1.5 to 7 years. Five patients had neonatal respiratory distress and congenital liver fibrosis was diagnosed in five patients. One patient died due to complications of CRF, while others survived during follow-up of mean 11 years. IFT140 mutations were found in four genetically tested patients. Conclusion. The average incidence rate of JS with renal phenotype in Serbia was about 0.2 per one million of child population. Long-term survival of JS patients depends on renal replacement therapy, while skeletal dysplasia, growth failure, respiratory and eyes problems have impact on the patients? quality of life.

Abstract Qualitative research in the field of pedagogy has been gaining in importance over the last few decades and is increasingly being applied in order to gain a greater insight into the researched subject matter. In this paper, we used the phenomenological approach to establish how students, who will become teachers, perceive teaching practice. Students of pedagogical departments, who were interviewed, have participated in teaching practice and as such are a valuable source of information about the subject. The study involved 307 participants, 102 male students and 205 female students. The participants were students the University of Zagreb, attendees of five branches of the University: the Faculty of Teacher Education, the Academy of Music, the Faculty of Kinesiology, the Faculty of Science and the University Department of Croatian Studies. A purposive sample was used which included students of pedagogical departments. The paper presents the answers given to three open ended questions. The analysis was conducted so that the collected statements of the participants were identified and sorted into categories in order to classify the empirical material. The results suggest that teaching practice has a number of positive influences on the work of future teachers, as well as numerous disadvantages. Students, as future teachers, presented a number of concrete proposals to improve the quality of teaching practice. Students, as users of teaching practice, should be constantly questioned and changes should be made based on their statements in order to help them become competent teachers who educate capable, satisfied, creative and happy students. This work could be a contribution to the development of a new PracticeRulebook. Key words: phenomenological approach; qualitative research; students; teaching practice Sažetak Svrha ovog rada bila je dobiti uvid u to kako studenti nastavničkih fakulteta percipiraju nastavnu praksu. Ispitanici su bili studenti Sveučilita u Zagrebu, polaznici pet sastavnica Sveučilita: Učiteljski fakultet, Muzička akademija, Kinezioloki fakultet, Prirodoslovno-matematički fakultet i Hrvatski studiji.

Competitiveness and productivity are crucial for the development of a country. A more competitive economy can grow faster over time. Technological innovation is the strongest pillar that guarantees long term competitiveness and quality of life for both developed and emerging countries. The University-Enterprise relationship (RUE) is a resource that is used to build a strong pillar of innovation. Therefore, it is important that a good relationship should be established between the main participants, the entrepreneur and the researcher (E-I). However, current literature has largely ignored the problem of the personnel involved. In contributing to the knowledge of this subject, we examined the gap that exists between the entrepreneur and the researcher (ERG), the importance of empathy in the E-I collaboration, and the factors that impact this collaboration the most from the entrepreneur stand point. The study was exploratory and transversal and data was gathered through interviews and questionnaires. The sample consisted of expert entrepreneurs with experience in innovation projects carried out in collaboration with researchers. The results show that 70% of the interviewed entrepreneurs recognize the existence of ERG. 87.5% of the entrepreneurs surveyed see empathy as a very significant factor for the E-I relationship, and there were 32 factors that are most influential on this collaboration.

The features of the modern world community in its transition to a phase-risk existence represent a socio- economic study on developing a model of an innovative society that is adequate to the conditions of the global crisis. A key problem of long-term development is the development of man, his social and natural environment but the key subjects of long-term planning are an innovative development and new quality of human capital since the quality of human capital is one of our competitive advantages. The economy must be innovative and the innovative economy must be created by “the innovative” person. Consequently such a person has to be available but for the moment there is no such massive phenomenon on a national scale. In terms of social and economic bases of social development the necessity of administration is determined by division of labor on the one hand and by the need for its cooperation on the other. The modern new paradigm of public administration is more likely based on the idea of more and more complete inclusion of a creative person into the structure of the subject of management connected with collective intelligence that transforms the society, as described in this chapter.

Purpose – This paper aims to explore the influence of higher education institution (HEI) facilities on overall student satisfaction, and to identify the distinct facilities that most strongly influence student overall satisfaction with HEI facilities. Design/methodology/approach – A tailor-made questionnaire is developed to measure student perception about student life, including their perceptions about the facilities at the HEI they attend. Two econometric models are estimated using OLS regression analysis. Findings – The factor that most strongly influences student satisfaction with university facilities is the quality of its social areas, auditoriums and libraries. Conversely, it is determined that computer access on campus does not influence student satisfaction. Research limitations/implications – The sample includes data only from a single university. Moreover, only Norwegian students at the university participated in the survey. Practical implications – Based on our findings, the most effective strategy to improve student overall satisfaction with the facilities at an HEI is to improve the quality of social areas, auditoriums and libraries. Such a strategy will result in students who are more satisfied with the HEI they are attending and, thereby, increase the HEI’s chances of long-term success. Originality/value – To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to identify the facilities that most strongly influence the overall satisfaction of students with the facilities at HEIs.

The purpose of this study was to determine the phenological development and the nutritional quality of Sorghum almun during different growth stages. The seed was cultivated in the Alfredo Volio Mata Experimental Station of the University of Costa Rica. Eighteen kg of 88% germinal seed per hectare were planted. The first sample was taken 24 days after sprouting and every 14 days thereafter, up to 150 days. The production of biomass of the stems, leaves and ears of grain were measured and the amounts (content) of dry mater matter, crude protein, total ashes, neutral fiber and detergent acid, hemicellulosa, cellulose and lignin were determined. During the first 52 days of growth, the output of leaves was higher than that of stems. On the 57th day, a yield of 1395 kg of dry matter per hectare, 50% leaves and 50% stems, was estimated. The ears of grain appeared after 94 days, contributing 50kg per hectare of dry matter. The concentration of dry matter in the leaves was highest from the moment of sprouting to the 136th day. The content of crude protein in the leaves was always superior to that in the stems. In the leaves the crude protein diminished 16%-28% between the 38th and 150th day of growth. In the same period, the crude protein in the stem diminished 5%-18%, and in the whole plant 8%-26%. The neutral fiber and detergent acid in the leaves and the stems were less than 60% during the first two months of growth and more than 70% in the latter period.
