This article analyzes the factors affecting the sales revenue of sports lottery from the perspective of innovative diffusion theory by system dynamics analysis. With the quantification and simulation of system dynamics, the sales revenue of sports lottery is affected is found. With the daily sales amount during the FIFA World Cup 2018 as samples, six variables (reach frequency, adoption rate, betting among per person per day, advertisement expenditure, advertisement successful rate, and potential bettor increase rate) are used to find out the key factors. According to the simulation result of this study, it indicates that all the variables exert a positive influence on the sales revenue. The magnitude of influence on sales, from large to small, they are betting among per person per day, reach frequency and adoption rate in word-to-mouth, potential bettors increase rate, advertisement expenditure and advertisement successful rate in the advertisement effects. During the FIFA World Cup 2018, advertising effects initiated the diffusion of sports lottery. Compared to the advertising effects, word-to-mouth effects were bigger. In the same situation and with the same resources, Taiwan Sports Lottery, the operator could change the betting among per person per day and change the word-to-mouth advertising with priority. When major matches take place in the future, Taiwan Sports Lottery is suggested to judge if it maintains an optimistic attitude for future growth, it shall begin to promote advertising effects. When more people learn more about the sports lottery, with the diffusion of word-to-mouth advertising, the effects will be most significant.

Sports lottery revenue is not only an important part of the regional and national sports industry, but also a source of public funds to support the continuous enrichment and improvement of public sports resources. It is a major method to promote the participation of the masses in sports activities and consumption, and to improve health. In this paper, panel data of all provinces in China from 2010 to 2019 are collected and empirically tested by the robust standard error estimation method of fixed panel model. The results show that: a) The significant increase of income level in recent years has a significant effect on the sales volume of sports lottery, and the effect is greater in economically underdeveloped areas than in economically developed areas. b) When the income level reaches a certain level, the education level is the most important factor affecting the sales volume of sports lottery. In economically developed regions and provinces with higher per capita income, the economic basis is the guarantee of sports lottery consumption, and the education level is the dominant influencing factor of sports lottery sales.

AbstractAround the world, sports betting is the second type of gambling activity most associated with gambling problems. Thus, sports bettors’ cognitions play an essential role in this association. However, no instrument is specifically designed to assess sports bettors’ cognitions. This study aims (a) to develop the Inventaire des cognitions à risque — Loteries sportives (ICR-LS)  and to determine its factor structure, (b) to assess the convergent validity of the ICR-LS with the Gambling Related Cognitions Scale (GRCS), gambling habits, and the severity of gambling problems; and (c) to assess the links between the number of monthly hours spent preparing for sports lottery bets and gambling habits. Participants are sport lottery bettors (N = 272) that are mainly men (86.5%) in their twenties (M = 26.7 years old), and from a university community (88.3%). Principal component analysis results indicate that the instrument is composed of two factors (Superstitions and Abilities), and shows strong internal consistency (coefficients alpha > .85) and good convergent validity. The scale shows statistically significant but negligible associations with the annual amount spent on lotteries, hours spent on the preparation of bets, and gambling problem severity. In addition, time dedicated to bet preparation is moderately associated with the amount spent, gambling frequency, and gambling problem severity, suggesting that sports bettors bet preparation time could be a risk factor in sports betting. Studies should explore further the amount of time dedicated to bet preparation and its effects on different spheres of life, especially for problem gamblers.

Objective China's sports lottery income is the core power and important economic source of sports development, but it is affected by many complex factors such as society and economy. This paper studies the prediction model of sports lottery income, and provides data support and theoretical basis for relevant government policies Methods: Using the time series data of sports lottery revenue over the years, this paper studies the prediction model, compares the evaluation and selects the appropriate model, and uses the model to predict the future development of sports lottery revenue in China. Results: Through comparison, it is found that the cubic curve model has the best fitting effect on sports lottery income (R2 = 0.994, MAPE = 5.10). Using this model to predict sports lottery, it will exceed 500 billion yuan in 2025. Conclusion: the prediction model of sports lottery revenue in China is suitable to adopt the cubic curve model, which indicates that the sports lottery revenue in China will keep increasing.

The study sought to assess the impact of sports betting on the investment behaviour of Ghanaians, focusing on sports betting centers within the Accra Metropolis, Ghana. The objectives of this observational study were to determine how individuals perceive the risk of sports lotteries as opposed to investment, to determine if sports lottery was viewed as an alternative to investments and savings, and to understand how participation in sports lotteries affects individuals’ ability to save and invest. In adopting a survey approach, 99 sports betting participants across selected betting centers were examined using questionnaires and the data subsequently analyzed through cross-tabulations. The study found that sports betting behaviour had a complementary rather than a substitutionary effect on investment behaviour. The participants were both risk-aware and risk-averse, but engaged nevertheless in betting for a chance of winning a high payoff. Thus, the findings demonstrated that sports betting participants viewed betting as a means to an end, a chance to improve their financial circumstances, rather than as a substitute for investing, and exhibited understanding of a clear distinction, with regards to behaviour, towards investing and sports betting. In return for a substantive payoff, the respondents were willing to stop sports betting, thereby indicating that the financial payoffs were the main motivation for sports betting.

We developed a multidimensional measure of lottery playing health, simultaneously considering the positive and negative perspectives of playing the lottery. Participants were 4,521 sports lottery players. The final version of the Lottery Playing Health Scale (LPHS) comprised 17 items divided across 5 factors: enjoyable experience, favorable socialization, rational control, negative mood, and social harm. The LPHS showed good psychometric properties, including level of fit to the data, discriminant validity, and reliability. Several lottery player characteristics (i.e., age, perceived risk, and urge to play) were found to be significant predictors of players' LPHS scores. This study represents an initial effort to understand the multidimensional effects of lottery playing on health.

Formalised sports lottery is fast becoming a craze in Ghana, especially amongst the male populace. There is however no documented research on the demand for this product as well as its effects on the population and economy of Ghana as a whole. This study sought to investigate the factors that influence the demand for sports lottery in Ghana. Based on the expected utility hypothesis, a model was constructed using a binary logistic regression to analyse the characteristics that influence the demand for sports lottery in Ghana. Four hundred respondents were employed in this study where it was realized that 92% out of the about 96% males engaged in sports lottery in Ghana were within the age bracket of 21-40 years. Furthermore, 53.6% of those engaged in sports lottery were reported to be unemployed. Price, gender, age, employment status, monthly income and whether a person has won a bet before were discovered to be significant factors of the demand for sports lottery in Ghana. The study also realized that online lotteries were such as MyBet and Supabet were the most preferred to the offline lottery offered by the National Lottery Authority. Therefore the NLA must redesign their product to meet the demand preferences of the patrons.
