Engineering education is a training that encompass learning the theoretical knowledge of concepts, and real time application domains. The role of engineering is also bound by ethical values and the understanding of social and cultural values. In this context a new approach has been designed to facilitate learning of life philosophies through Digital Signal Processing (DSP) concepts. To facilitate learning process, skits based on core DSP concepts were developed using simple day to day tools and performed with learners. The concept was introduced with simple analogies. Then students were made to participate in skits corresponding to key concepts. After the skits, learners were educated about the correlation with Life philosophies. Three case studies were taken up for this study. We found that the inculcation of life philosophies through simple skits, helped learners better to understand the concepts as well the moral values of life.

In this article, we, Olga Lehmann, Mixo Hansen and Helena Hurme, engage in a process of collaborative reflexivity upon living, aging, and dying as we attempt to make sense of the illnesses of the last author. The companionship that emerged between us in the plurality of our identities as friends, colleagues, coauthors, and women, encouraged us to revisit aspects of the theories in developmental-cultural psychology such as (a) the process of meaning-making, (b) the equifinality model in relation to aging and dying, and (c) the notion of personal life philosophies in relation to virtues. Based on our personal experiences as well as our collaborative reflexivity as scholars, we highlight that developmental-cultural psychology could more explicitly address existential transitions, such as dying and existential givens, such as uncertainty in its theories. We present as well some preliminary integrations between existential and cultural perspectives of meaning-making.

In this article, we support the use of poetic representations to study experiential and existential meaning-making. We do so by presenting five spoken-word poems, which we created out of the transcriptions of 14 in-depth interviews with Norwegian older adults, prior to their enrollment in a biographical writing course. The poetic representations which have been named by themes from the transcript are (a) Where love takes us, (b) Relax during catastrophes, (c) Learning to see humankind as one common humanity, (d) Listen inward, (e) Life is, indeed, too short. Each poetic representation condenses diverse meanings and perspectives about life. They also maintain the anonymity of participants, as the plurality of their voices becomes one within the stanzas. While presenting this creative form of qualitative inquiry and providing some methodological reflections, we also discuss the implications of this approach for the theoretical development of the notions of personal life philosophies and existential pathways in cultural psychology.

Batik is a motif or ornaments (on cloth) which processed in a certain way usually using malam which is some kind of wax to the cloth. Batik Minahasa is batik with traditional motif or ornament from indigenous land of Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. One of the reasons batik become the cultural heritage of Indonesia is because of the motif which contained local people’s life philosophies. Motif variation of batik Minahasa has not much developed even though there are variations made by combining the traditional motifs. Mathematics introduces fractal which has self-similarity characteristic in its shapes and Julia Set is one of fractals object that corresponds to complex numbers and is generated from the iterated function . The purpose of this research is to make variations of batik Minahasa based on Julia set. The results show that by selecting a complex number  within a range of  and  give interesting shapes of Julia sets. Using fractal-based applications, variation of batik Minahasa is made from traditional ornament and Julia Set motif which selected and arranging the properties such as layout layers, multiple iterations, width, length, angles, angle increases and more.

Lundayeh dance forms and systems have gone through changes and variations since their existence in Borneo. This paper looks into a variety of aspects, including music, costumes, movements, functions and stories of the traditional dances practiced in today’s Lundayeh communities in Kemabong, Sabah. The surviving traditional dances found to have stemmed from the core of Lundayeh cultural, social and religious aspects of life. The study leads to the discovery of the thinking patterns, life philosophies and world perspectives of Lundayeh that are strongly influenced by their religion and ancient culture. Dance music ultimately serves as a tool to understand the nature of Lundayeh people as one of the minor ethnic groups in the world. The understanding of the nature of Lundayeh would further contribute toward sharing and discovering another dimension of human knowledge and wisdom.
