On the Description of Cityscape in Novels Written by Zhang Ailing (Eileen Chang)

Zhang Ailing captures and describes various cityscapes with fierce and exquisite style. These “-scapes” not only exist as the carrier of urban civilization, but also demonstrate the looks of Shanghai’s people from all walks of life. The “-scapes” represented by apparels entail pessimistic life philosophy and connotate the emotional experience and fate of characters. Architectures, as time-markers, are shaped in the macro background of the era sensitively and organically. As for sounds, they can not only strengthen the daily space constructed by Zhang Ailing because of their inherent natural attributes, but also vividly depict the living things in the form of hearing. All kinds of “-scapes”, such as apparels, architectures, and sounds, whether fleeting or continuous, have been polished into an indispensable form in Zhang Ailing's urban writing. They are scattered all over the city and bear the unique literary significance organically and completely.

Caring for a Family Member With Mild Dementia: Perceptions, Connections, and Relational Dynamics With the Sacred

Researchers define spirituality as the search for or connection with the “sacred”, which is transcendent and considered blessed, holy, or revered. For some, the sacred is connection with a divinity (e.g., God, gods) and for others, a close relationship with something else bigger than themselves (e.g., the Universe, Nature, a life philosophy). Current research reports that family caregivers with a strong connection to the sacred, as compared with those who do not, have fewer symptoms of depression, more positive perceptions of the caregiving experience, improved coping, and bolstered resilience. However, there is limited research on the impact of spirituality on the perceptions of familial caregivers whose loved ones have recently been diagnosed with dementia. In this study, 27 family caregivers of persons with mild dementia (CDR=1) were interviewed using the Dimensions of Caregiving Interview (DCI, McGee & Carlson, 2013). The DCI identified positive psychological aspects of the caregiving experience, including spirituality. Three heuristic themes emerged from Directed Content Analysis: perceptions about the sacred reflect variability in the early part of the caregiving journey; specific characteristics, traits, and functions of the sacred shape caregiver coping and adjustment; and the relational dynamics between caregivers and the sacred inform adaptation. Recommendations for clinical practice and additional research are provided.

This dialog is about Wu Jing’s personal experiences and film concepts including Wu Jing as a martial artist, Wu Jing as an actor and a director; his persistence in pursuing authenticity in filmmaking as well as his life philosophy, all highlighting the chivalry of martial artists both in the film world and real life.

STRATEGY FOR STRENGTHENING CHARACTER EDUCATION THROUGH THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY SOCIAL WISDOM

Character is a way of thinking and behaving that characterizes each individual. Character education is a program that educates people to become moral or noble. Through character education, it is hoped that everyone will be able to implement character values and noble character in social life. The research objective is to formulate a strategy for strengthening character education through the value of social wisdom in the city of Banjarmasin. This research is descriptive analytical, namely a description of strengthening character education through the value of social wisdom in the city of Banjarmasin. The data used is secondary data, namely data obtained through library materials. All data collected were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study show that the community has social wisdom values such as the life philosophy of the Banjar ethnic group. The value of social wisdom is used as the basis for strengthening character education which is implemented in the family environment, school environment, and community environment so that the role of local wisdom for strengthening character education will take root in the people of Banjarmasin City.

Governance for Environmental Human Rights Protection in the Context of Bangladesh: A Policy Perspective

The protection of environmental human rights demands an ethical governance frame work. This paper examines the characteristics of three governance models and argues that development planners and policymakers can employ deliberative governance that is nourished by public participation to protect environmental human rights in Bangladesh. What Are Self-Cultivation Philosophies?

The chapter defines the concept of a self-cultivation philosophy. This proposes that human beings can and should move from a troubled state of existence to some ideal state of being via spiritual exercises guided by some philosophical analysis. Philosophy is defined as a reflective practice that seeks understanding of fundamental assumptions in our life. Philosophy may be a practical discipline or a theoretical one, and it may be based on whatever cognitive capacities human beings possess, including reason and awareness. This claim is defended by reference to virtue epistemology. Self-cultivation philosophy has a four-part structure: an account of human nature, an existential starting point, an ideal state of being, and a transformation program. The transformation program consists of exercises which have four functions: Cognition, Purification, Doctrine, and Habituation. Self-cultivation philosophies are often expressed in transformational texts intended to guide people in how to live their lives according to the philosophy

OVERVIEW OF THE LIFE PHILOSOPHY OF THE SUNDANESE PEOPLE AGAINST THE CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE OF STUDENTS IN EAST PRIANGAN

The purpose of this study is to obtain a real picture of the cultural intelligence of students in East Priangan and analyze it from the point of view of the dynamics of individual development and the philosophy of life of the Sundanese ethnic community. This study uses a quantitative approach and uses a descriptive method. Collecting data using a questionnaire to reveal the level of cultural intelligence of students which is then analyzed conceptually and empirically from the point of view of the dynamics of human development. The results showed that the achievement of cultural intelligence of students in East Priangan was above the average. The empirical results indicate that the psychophysical efforts of students to be able to adapt effectively and normatively in a higher education environment are close to optimal. This condition was determined by the real embodiment of the mandates contained in several Sundanese ethnic heritage texts from generation to generation both in thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Research on mosquito repellent performance of bamboo-polyester blended anti-mosquito yarn seamless knitted fabric

PurposePeople have always been invaded by mosquitoes, and the development of new anti-mosquito fabrics has attracted much attention. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of knitting process on the performance of anti-mosquito seamless fabrics and provide a basis for obtaining anti-mosquito seamless knitted fabrics with excellent comprehensive performance.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses bamboo–polyester mosquito repellent yarn containing wormwood extract as the face of seamless knitted fabric. The test factors include ordinary material in the face yarn, ground yarn material, seamless knitted structure and arrangement ratio of ordinary yarn and anti-mosquito yarn in face yarn. According to the quasi-level additional orthogonal test, 12 knitting plans are determined, and the mosquito repellent test and durability test are performed on the fabric.FindingsThe experimental results show that the optimal fabric for anti-mosquito performance is 12#, and the average repellent rate after washing 15 times is 58.57%. The corresponding process is that the face yarn is fully anti-mosquito yarn, the fabric is a single-sided mesh structure and the ground yarn is made of 4.4tex moisture-absorbing nylon/2.2tex spandex wrapped yarn.Research limitations/implicationsIn this paper, there is still a lack of diversity in the selection of yarn materials and fabrics. In the follow-up research, the authors will use more fabrics and yarn materials for combination and experimentation and simulate and predict the mosquito resistance rate of knitted fabrics with different materials and structures.Practical implicationsThe development of anti-mosquito seamless knitted fabrics with good comprehensive performance and the use of environmentally friendly wormwood repellents not only conform to the current people's healthy and environmentally friendly life philosophy, but also promote the development of the functional seamless knitted fabric market.Social implicationsIn addition, seamless knitted fabrics have a huge market prospect, and many of their fabrics are used for sports underwear and outdoor wear. Therefore, the research and development of functional knitted fabrics will attract consumers to buy. While improving the wearing comfort, it can increase profits for the company.Originality/valueThe mosquito-proof functional seamless knitted fabric developed in this research has a high mosquito-proof rate after 15 times and can be used as underwear fabric or outdoor sports fabric.
