Abstract This study, conducted within a higher education setting, examines and compares views of younger adults (age 20-24) and older adults (age 65-97) in two major areas; life challenges and aging processes. Are they complimentary, neutral, or opposing? We investigate views and the potential association to relationship type (family relation, close contact, casual), frequency (times interacting per month) including mode of communication (face-to-face, phone, visual technology), and narrative of overall experience. A mixed-method approach incorporated convenience survey data and extensive in-depth interviews. Data collection instruments were designed and conducted by students in an upper-division wellness and aging course at SUNY Oswego. Students partnered with older adult study participants. Participant (n=80) inquiries centered on life challenges (COVID, adversity, loss, discrimination/bias, regrets) and aging processes (views on aging, life expectancy, changes in health). The study also examines the impact of the 3-credit course on aging views; specifically did they change their life expectancy choice (years) from the week one by the end of the course.

Background: In our nation, induced abortions are common. Unexpected and unintentional births are serious public health issues in both developed and underdeveloped nations. According to the WHO, abortion complications account for 2–12% of maternal fatalities in Pakistan. The circumstances surrounding these abortions have major ramifications for both females and communities. However, insufficient information about factors leading to septic induced abortions at the country level was the reason to determine the contributing factors among women with abortion. Objective: The objective of our current research is to regulate occurrence of underlying factors contributing in patients presenting with septic induced abortion in a tertiary care setup. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jinnah hospital, Lahore for six months after approval of synopsis. Sample size of 130 cases was included through non-Probability consecutive sampling technique after the approval from hospital ethical committee. Informed consent was taken from each patient before including them in the study. Results: The mean age of the women was noted 26.24±4.93 years of which the minimum age was 18 year and maximum of 40 years. Out of these 130 women 26(20%) had no child, at least one abortion was most common as it was noted in 197(82%) of women. The underlying factors contributing to septic induced abortion it was noted that unwanted pregnancy in 41(31.5%) of cases, failed contraception in 37(28.5%) of cases, divorce in 6(4.6%) of cases, displeased family relation in 27(20.8%) of women and out of wedlock was noted in 19(14.6%) of cases. When data were stratified for effect modifiers statistically significant difference was found between parity and contributing factors for abortions (P-value = 0.000) and insignificant difference was observed with respect to age, educational status and economic status i.e., P-value > 0.05. Conclusion: The most common reason for abortion was unwanted pregnancy among the pregnant women. Keyword: Pregnancy, Abortion, Septic, maternal fatalities in Pakistan, WHO

Dementia is a degenerative disease with poor prognosis. People with dementia will depend on their caregivers. Care for dementia patients aims to promote or preserve their quality of life. Identification of the factors that affect (determinants) the quality of life of people with dementia is required, and caregiver determinants are proven to play a role. The caregiver’s role could affect the frequency and variety of therapy. Long-term cognitive and physical disability in people with dementia further develops the caregiver’s burden. This study aimed to assess the determinants of caregivers which have a relation with the quality of life in people with dementia. This cross-sectional study involved subjects who are dementia patients at the Memory Clinic of Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta, Indonesia and fulfilled the inclusion criteria and did not meet the exclusion criteria. Subjects and caregivers were interviewed and helped to complete several questionnaires, including the DEMQOL, ZBI, and GDS. Analysis within variables was performed using Pearson, Mann-Whitney, and T-tests, followed by a multivariate linear regression analysis. As many as 76 people with dementia were included, with the majority having the diagnosis of vascular dementia (53.9%), and the average DEMQOL Career score was 80.58 + 17.62 and 81.82 + 20.80 for DEMQOL Proxy. Bivariate correlation analysis showed a significant correlation between the caregiver’s age, gender, family relation, burden (ZBI), and depression (GDS) with the quality of life people with dementia (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, caregiver’s age was related to the quality of life of people with dementia based on DEMQOL Career (B =0.270; p =0.001) and DEMQOL Proxy (B =0.271; p =0.001) and the caregiver burden was related to the quality of life of people with dementia based on DEMQOL Career (B =-0.629; p =0.000) and DEMQOL Proxy (B =-0.661; p =0.000). In conclusion, the determinants of caregiver that are significantly related to quality of life in people with dementia are caregiver’s burden and age.

The funeral and mortuary sector, including funeral homes, cemeteries and crematoria, is a largely neglected sector in regard to the study of occupational factors that can affect the quality of working life. The present study aimed at overcoming this gap by investigating job demands and resources that may affect burnout levels. Data were collected through a self-report questionnaire involving funeral industry employees (N = 229) from cemetery, morgues, crematoria and funeral agencies in a Northern Italian region. The survey was cross-sectional and non-randomized. Results reveal that among job demands, stigma consciousness, supervisor incivility and work-to-family negative spillover significantly affect levels of burnout, whereas meaningfulness of work and family-to-work positive spillover may represent relevant resources to counter the onset of burnout. The results of this study contribute to new insights into the psychosocial working conditions that affect occupational wellbeing among the funeral industry sector by also giving insight into how to promote resources to prevent burnout.

The existing power differences among men, women and youths in aquaculture pre-empted the study on gender roles and economic differentials in aquaculture of Kainji Lake Basin, Nigeria. Specifically, the study assessed sources of production resources, gender roles, cost and returns and existing gender gaps in aquaculture. Using a survey design, a two-stage sampling procedure was used to select 81 males and 39 females from a population of 229 fish farmers. Data were presented using descriptive statistics and analyzed with budgetary technique and gender gap ratios. Key result shows that the men and youths had direct access to land through inheritance and purchase while the women (61%) accessed land through a family relation. The men and male youths performed majority of the gender roles involved in preparation of ponds, fingerlings stocking, fish management and post-harvest activities while the women and female youths were actively involved in fish management, liming and grading. Economic indicators show that the men and youths have a higher return on investment than the women implying that such power differences still exist. Hence, it is recommended that women should be organized in groups for empowerment. This will enable them utilize their collective strength through division of labour in fish farming.
