The annual International Jewish-Christian Bible Week runs from a Sunday to a Sunday, allowing for the celebration of the Jewish Shabbat and the Christian Sunday by attending one another’s religious services. During the five years covered in this issue, it has been the author’s privilege to offer the sermon on the Saturday morning during the Jewish service. This enables him to explore new perceptions of the texts we have been studying that have arisen during the Week, but also to reflect on broader issues that might have arisen in the multiple interactions – interfaith, intercultural and interpersonal – that have taken place during the Week. Given the occasional negative associations that accompany the word ‘sermon’, I have preferred to use the term ‘epilogues’ to characterise these responses to the texts and experiences of the Week. The term also covers a more imaginative reflection on the Book of Proverbs (Hebrew: mishlei) that we have been studying – a visit to the City of Mishlei.

AbstractCognitive failures are errors in routine action regulation that increase with higher mental demands. In particular, in occupations where guidance such as teaching or supervision is essential, cognitive failures harm one’s performance and also negatively impact knowledge transfer. The aim of this study is to investigate yesterday’s work–home conflict (WHC) and objectively assessed sleep-onset latency as antecedents of a next-day increase in cognitive failures. Fifty-three teachers were assessed during a working week, in the morning, after work, and in the evening on each working day, as well as on Saturday morning. Sleep-onset latency was assessed with ambulatory actimetry. The multi-level analyses showed both WHC and sleep-onset latency predict cognitive failures the next working day (controlling for cognitive failures from the previous day, sleep quantity, and leisure time rumination until falling asleep). However, there was no association between yesterday’s WHCs and the nightly sleep-onset latency. Thus, nightly sleep-onset latency did not mediate the effects of yesterday’s WHCs on today’s cognitive failures. Our results highlight the importance of sleep and a good work–life balance for daily cognitive functioning. In order to promote the cognitive functioning of employees as well as occupational safety, good working conditions and recovery should both be considered.

A problem found in transportation is road narrowing. Road narrowing refers to a condition in which its downstream is smaller than the upstream. This research took place on Ahmad Yani Street at the front of Royal Plaza, Surabaya. The location of this research had a sufficiently high traffic flow. Thus, the road should be able to operate optimally. In fact, there is still a density caused by road narrowing. This research was intended to determine how much the maximum flow, maximum density and free speed on the road before, during and after the narrowing. Besides, this research was carried out to find out the relation of the flow, the traffic density and speed, determine the value of the shock waves during the road narrowing. This research was done on Wednesday and Saturday morning, at 06:00-08:00 and in the afternoon at 16:00-18:00. The calculation performed was based on Greenshield method. The analysis revealed that the largest maximum flow was on the fragment of road before narrowing, which was 2376.30 pcu/hour. The maximum density found on the fragment of road during narrowing was 322.33 pcu/hour, and the highest free speed regarding to the road condition before the narrowing was 57.21 km/hour. The relation between flow, speed and density showed a significant result (R2> 0.5). Shock waves obtained were in the mornings and afternoons on Wednesday and Saturday,

The animated Schoolhouse Rock! shorts that ABC ran between Saturday morning cartoons from 1973 through 1985 (and again in the 1990s) formed many children’s understanding of civics and US history. The Schoolhouse Rock! cartoons, however, were better at celebrating the accomplishments of the United States than presenting varied perspectives or addressing difficult historical issues. So what lessons can this program offer to twenty-first century historians seeking to offer children a more inclusive and nuanced story of the past? This article uses oral histories, promotional materials, and corporate records to examine the process of making these wildly popular models of public history. It also hypothesizes how a Schoolhouse Rock! for the 2020s could bridge scholarly and public discussions about the relationship between civics and history, while simultaneously creating diverse and critical historical narratives that are (hopefully) as engaging and memorable to young consumers as the original series was for their parents.

I will try to focus in my talk on the history and significance of the so-calledSaturday Morning Meetings—a scien-tific seminar that John Langshaw Austin (President of the Aristotelian society 1956-1957) organized in 1947 at the University of Oxford—forthe development of Oxford philosophy. The ideas that were discussed at these informal meetings were subsequently seriously developed within the philosophy literature, and many participants of the seminar became world-famous philosophers. The success of the Saturday Morning Meetings can be explained by the fact that it was not a formalized University institution, but a community of like-minded people who believed that only through joint discussion philosophical problems could be clarified.

AbstractObjectiveTo estimate the daily dietary energy intake for me to maintain a constant body weight. How hard can it be?DesignVery introspective study.SettingAt home. In lockdown. (Except every Tuesday afternoon and Saturday morning, when I went for a run.)ParticipantsMe. n=1.Main outcome measuresMy weight, measured each day.ResultsSleeping, I shed about a kilogram each night (1.07 (SD 0.25) kg). Running 5 km, I shed about half a kilogram (0.57 (SD 0.15) kg). My daily equilibrium energy intake is about 10 000 kJ (10 286 (SD 201) kJ). Every kJ above (or below) 10 000 kJ adds (or subtracts) about 40 mg (35.4 (SD 3.2) mg).ConclusionsBody weight data show persistent variability, even when the screws of control are tightened and tightened.

My close and direct association with Srinivas (MNS) as his last student began in 1976 that lasted till I joined the University of Hyderabad in June 1991 as a faculty in the Department of Anthropology. After joining the University of Hyderabad, I physically got distanced. I also learnt that he was a bit annoyed with me as I was moving out of Bangalore and he never wanted me to leave Bangalore. I was also not very happy to get distanced from him physically. Professor Srinivas and Mrs Srinivas always treated me as a family member and almost like a son. However, my condition was such that I had to get out of the Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC) to get into a secure academic job, as I was on a tenurial project position at ISEC. Also, I was not growing any younger. V. S. Parthasarathy (hereafter VSP), a close associate of MNS, told him about my plight but still, the hurt feeling remained. I feel that I have always been unlucky in this regard. These things apart, I have immensely gained academically under his tutelage. If I count my meetings and interactions for my PhD thesis, they are only a few and far between. However, during my frequent interactions with him (every Saturday morning, I used to visit him from 1987 till I left Bangalore in 1991 June, and I tried to make a catalogue of the books in his library), I have learnt about many scholars of all hues, the discipline of anthropology and sociology, academic politics, and much more. Each meeting with him was a rich experience of learning. That is why, it is difficult for me as to where and how to begin to write about my journey under MNS’ tutelage. There were also some misgivings created by circumstances (maybe also by some persons) which also had impacted the relationship with MNS sometime in the middle. Because of perseverance, they all got dissolved and the relationship was always in a buoyance state. In other words, there were times of trials and tribulations in this journey, but patience and perseverance always paid in managing my relationship with MNS. He used to enquire about my problems and always tried to comfort me. This I have always tried to do with my students as it helps them to overcome any psychological trauma that they face. Anyway, I will not discuss in this write-up non-academic or personal matters. Let me make this write-up a little structured. I would like to divide this into five parts of timeline events that happened during my association with him and how each one taught me many things, including also as to how to face problems in career and life.

Food amid humans is a great pleasure in the world because food is one of the sources of human life. Allah is the Rabb who gives food to humans to relieve their hunger. Among the characteristics of the occupants of Heaven is that they often feed the needy. Situbondo Regency is located on the north coast of Java, in the Tapal Kuda (Horseshoe) area. This research aims to investigate the motives and concept of feeding other people on Friday, the benefits of feeding people on Friday, and seek for ahadith that advocate feeding others. This research used a qualitative approach with the study of living hadith model. The results of this study indicate that: (1) The motives for feeding people are to get the benefits of sharing food with fellow Moslems, the desire to share, and be part of the social activity. Regular and non-permanent donors support the feeding concept. Food distribution is made every Saturday morning on the east side of Asembagus Great (Jami')Mosque. Food is distributed to farmers, pedicab drivers, waste pickers, and people who could not afford it. (2) The benefits of feeding others are social care, more people, and laypeople interested in joining the study. (3) Several hadith that prescribe to feed other people.
