This paper deals with studies into the personal archive of the musicologist Ona Narbutienė (1930–2007), including a number of previously unpublished documents. Narbutienė’s musicological heritage, which has been little investigated so far, consists of books, articles, lectures, radio and TV shows, musical evenings, texts for record sleeves and CD inlays as well as the conceptual framework, the programme, and texts for the International Thomas Mann Festival in Nida. Within the context of this heritage, her lessons and lectures stand out for their special role in shaping the views, attitudes, and professional choices of the musicologists of the younger generation. The evidence of all these activities can be found in Narbutienė’s private archive compiled over many years and thus displaying the content of great historical and musicological value. The paper examines Narbutienė’s musicological interests as revealed in her personal correspondence and their relationship to certain professional imperatives. Narrative, interview, historical-analytical, and empirical research methods were employed in this study.

This article is aimed at revealing the specifics of the professional choice made by students-future teachers. The increased interest in recent years of young people in studying pedagogical specialties provoked our research attention towards differentiating the factors influencing their professional choices. This article presents the results of a study conducted with students majoring in "Primary school pedagogy with a foreign language" who study at the Faculty of Education at Trakia University, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. The results of the study indicate that in their professional choices, students are influenced by a wide range of social and personal factors. The most important social factors are: proximity of the university to the place where the student resides, the high social assessment of the quality of education at the university/faculty, and the prestige of the teaching profession in society. Among the personal factors for choosing the profession of pedagogue, students rank in leading positions their desire to work with children and their love for the teaching profession, formed under the influence of the high professionalism of their good teachers.

The aim of the article is to analyse the significance of farming and agriculture in the lives of young rural university graduates in Poland. Their educational and professional choices are discussed. How many of them graduated from agricultural higher education institutions and agricultural disciplines? Do such decisions translate into taking up farming after having completed the studies? What are the reasons that young people with higher education living in rural areas may be or may not be interested in farming? Another objective is to identify the main factors potentially “pulling” them towards agriculture and those “pushing” them out of this sector. The article is based on 92 in-depth interviews with university graduates aged 25–34 and 27 in-depth interviews with competent local informants conducted in ten purposely selected rural municipalities across Poland. The results show that farming and agriculture are more present in young university graduates than their educational and professional choices suggest. However, the interviews reflect the dominance of the modernisation paradigm shaping the perceptions of farmers and agriculture in Poland.

In this article, we analyse the teachers' agency after participation in an international training master’s in educational research. Sixteen teachers, from various African countries, accept to participate in a semi-structured interview at the end of an international master. The data collected was analysed qualitatively through thematic dimensions. The interviews highlighted how the teachers expressed their agency in consequence of their participation in the international master. At the end of the master, the emerged dimensions of teachers’ agency are related to the professional choices, the scholastic local community, the professional practices acquired during the master as well as the transformation of their personal and collective professional practices.

The article examines the impact of transnational interactions on the lives and professional choices of four Russians from Vietnamese-Russian families – writers Alexey Milkov and Eldar Sattarov, musician Vyacheslav Kovalev and film director Konstantin Fham-Malkin. The author analyzes four mixed families, in which the father is an ethnic Vietnamese, and the mother is a local resident: Russian / Tatar / Jewish. It is shown how children who grew up in such interethnic families, under the influence of various factors and circumstances, form an attitude to ethnicity – their Vietnamese origin, and make career choices.

The research attempted to recognize students’ comprehension in adopting a set of procedures in the translation process compared to the translation-professional choices in real-situation. Thus, two sets of questionnaires were provided for students and professional translators. The qualitative method was employed in conducting the research. The first questionnaire enabled students to express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas concerning the translation course and process. This reflection revealed the students’ strategies, interests, and motivation in attending the course. It also allowed the student to see the importance and benefit of the course. On the other hand, the second questionnaire drew some insight into professional translators’ choice in doing a translation, particularly on strategy in dealing with texts. Those finding provides an opportunity for teachers to identify the students’ needs in learning and practicing the translation as close as the professional does and finally to find the best approach in teaching translation.
