Abstract Quantifying tissue-infiltrating immune and stromal cells provides clinically relevant information for various diseases. While numerous methods can quantify immune or stromal cells in human tissue samples from transcriptomic data, few are available for mouse studies. We introduce murine Microenvironment Cell Population counter (mMCP-counter), a method based on highly specific transcriptomic markers that accurately quantify 16 immune and stromal murine cell populations. We validated mMCP-counter with flow cytometry data and showed that mMCP-counter outperforms existing methods. We showed that mMCP-counter scores are predictive of response to immune checkpoint blockade in cancer mouse models and identify early immune impacts of Alzheimer’s disease.

This paper focuses on the protagonist in Venom (2018). The debate is based on the double character of Eddie-Venom and traces the Deleuzean desire of this folded identity. How Eddie’s dark desires are suppressed and united by Venom, a symbiote? Schizoanalysis, a counter-method of psychoanalysis, assumes a dual identity for dealing with the rational space surrounding us. Psychoanalysis however, establishes a family-based representational system. For Deleuze and Guattari, free associations during schizophrenic life are to be preferred instead of the representational approach in psychoanalysis. schizo-esthetics, a network of desiring machines, is the liberty of the subject to remain in the world non-hierarchically and the abandonment of the order of symbols.

Spoofing of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals threatens positioning systems. A counter-method is to detect the presence of spoofed signals, followed by a warning to the user. In this paper, a multi-antenna snapshot receiver is presented to detect the presence of a spoofing attack. The spatial similarities of the array steering vectors are analyzed, and different metrics are used to establish possible detector functions. These include subset methods, Eigen-decomposition, and clustering algorithms. The results generated within controlled spoofing conditions show that a spoofed constellation of GNSS satellites can be successfully detected. The derived system-level detectors increase performance in comparison to pair-wise methods. A controlled test setup achieved perfect detection; however, in real-world cases, the performance would not be as ideal. Some detection metrics and features for blind spoofing detecting, with an array of antennas, are identified, which opens the field for future advanced multi-detector developments.

Abstract By taking the recent legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan as a point of departure, this paper attempts to differentiate a “bloc asia” as a virtual aggregate from an “Area Asia” as a concrete geo-historical region in order to theorize the possibility of taking Taiwan or Asia as a counter-method. The paper starts with an examination of Takeuchi Yoshimi's 1960 “Asia as Method” in light of the two possible Asias—Asia as entity and Asia as method—suggested in Koyasu Nobukuni's poststructuralist reinterpretation. It then moves on to the two possible methods as disclosed in Kuan-Hsing Chen's Asia as Method—one adopts an “Asian studies in Asia” approach with an inter-referencing system; the other foregrounds a dynamic process of turning and hybridizing that occurs between Western colonial powers and local structures—to warp up the similar differentiation of Area Asia and bloc asia, as well as that of Asia as entity and Asia as method. The second part of the paper focuses on Taiwan's recent “Pikaochiu” incident, which uncannily conflates questions of same-sex marriage rights and ancestral tablet terminology. Instead of regarding it as merely an Internet kuso, the paper takes it to demonstrate how out of the old clan patriarchy in East Asia there may emerge new “homophobic” forms that rely not on a proscription of specific sex practices but rather on defending the integrity of the family surname and patrilineage. Yet its potentiality as a rollback against a Euro-American model of marriage, kinship, and family, and simultaneously a reversal against East Asian Confucian values, makes it a bizarre yet challenging case to explicate how Asia could function as a counter-method, a virtual “not yet.”

Abstract Background : Stroke volume variation (SVV) is reportedly affected by ventilation settings. However, it is unclear whether positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) affects SVV independent of the effect of driving pressure. We aimed to investigate the effect of driving pressure and PEEP on SVV under various preload conditions using beagle dogs as the model animal. Methods : Mild and moderate hemorrhage models were created in 9 anesthetized, mechanically ventilated beagle dogs by sequentially removing 10 mL/kg, and then an additional 10 mL/kg of blood, respectively. In all animals, driving pressure was incrementally increased by 4 cmH 2 O, from 5 cmH 2 O to 17 cmH 2 O, under PEEP values of 4, 8, and 12 cmH 2 O. Stroke volume (SV) was measured using the pulse-counter method and the thermodilution method. Results : The driving pressure did not significantly decrease SV under each preload condition and PEEP; however, increased SVV significantly. In contrast, the increased PEEP decreased SV and increased SVV under each preload condition and driving pressure, but these association were not statistically significant. According to multiple regression analysis, an increase in PEEP and decrease in preload significantly decreased SV (P<0.01). In addition, PEEP did not affect SVV, but the increased driving pressure and decreased preload significantly increased SVV. Conclusion: The SV decreased with an increase in PEEP; however, the SVV was not significantly affected by PEEP. Driving pressure had more influence than PEEP on SVV.

Marion gives a new interpretation to the phenomenological notion of givenness (of a phenomenon) by attributing to this phenomenon a »self« which is, in a certain sense, independent from and prior to its reception by the subject (as »the gifted one«, adonné). In this way, Marion pleads for a phenomenological turn which can also be described in terms of counter-intentionality and counter-method. However, this turn is not a logical necessity, but a (rationally grounded) decision which the subject, or adonné has to make. In this paper I would like to interrelate this decision to the notion of acknowledgement. The adonné, by acknowledging the priority of givenness over its own receiving capacities, adopts the attitude of humility in every relation to reality (not understood ontologically, but in its »saturated« phenomenality). This attitude is of fundamental importance with regard to (the possibility of) the phenomenon of revelation.

The article is devoted to the problem in diagnostic for axes of wheel sets of rolling stock at the railroad lines. It shows that the time counter method of magnetic powder control has low productivity and is characterized by high subjectivity and the impossibility of automating the control process. To eliminate these defects and improve the reliability for detection of defects on the surface of the stepped axis a method based on the using of fluxgate transducer is proposed. It was carried out the analysis of magnetic fields near the surface of the axles of wheel sets using the developed mathematical models, which made it possible to calculate both the defect fields and the stray field of the stepped surface of axis. Spatial and frequency selection of useful signals based on the analysis of information parameters of magnetic fields of stray of surface and subsurface defects and fields induced by the stepped surface of the magnetized axis is proved.
