We consider the XY spin chain with arbitrary time-dependent magnetic field and anisotropy. We argue that a certain subclass of Gaussian states, called Coherent Ensemble (CE) following [1], provides a natural and unified framework for out-of-equilibrium physics in this model. We show that all correlation functions in the CE can be computed using form factor expansion and expressed in terms of Fredholm determinants. In particular, we present exact out-of-equilibrium expressions in the thermodynamic limit for the previously unknown order parameter 1-point function, dynamical 2-point function and equal-time 3-point function.

In conventional superconductors, Cooper pairing occurs between electrons of opposite spin. We observe spin-polarized superconductivity in Bernal bilayer graphene when doped to a saddle-point van Hove singularity generated by large applied perpendicular electric field. We observe a cascade of electrostatic gate-tuned transitions between electronic phases distinguished by their polarization within the isospin space defined by the combination of the spin and momentum-space valley degrees of freedom. Although all of these phases are metallic at zero magnetic field, we observe a transition to a superconducting state at finite B ‖ ≈ 150mT applied parallel to the two-dimensional sheet. Superconductivity occurs near a symmetry breaking transition, and exists exclusively above the B ‖ -limit expected of a paramagnetic superconductor with the observed transition temperature T C ≈ 30mK, consistent with a spin-triplet order parameter.

AbstractSpontaneous C4-symmetry breaking phases are ubiquitous in layered quantum materials, and often compete with other phases such as superconductivity. Preferential suppression of the symmetry broken phases by light has been used to explain non-equilibrium light induced superconductivity, metallicity, and the creation of metastable states. Key to understanding how these phases emerge is understanding how C4 symmetry is restored. A leading approach is based on time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory, which explains the coherence response seen in many systems. However, we show that, for the case of the single layered manganite La0.5Sr1.5MnO4, the theory fails. Instead, we find an ultrafast inhomogeneous disordering transition in which the mean-field order parameter no longer reflects the atomic-scale state of the system. Our results suggest that disorder may be common to light-induced phase transitions, and methods beyond the mean-field are necessary for understanding and manipulating photoinduced phases.

AbstractThe phenomenon of ageing transitions (AT) in a Erdős–Rényi network of coupled Rulkov neurons is studied with respect to parameters modelling network connectivity, coupling strength and the fractional ratio of inactive neurons in the network. A general mean field coupling is proposed to model the neuronal interactions. A standard order parameter is defined for quantifying the network dynamics. Investigations are undertaken for both the noise free network as well as stochastic networks, where the interneuronal coupling strength is assumed to be superimposed with additive noise. The existence of both smooth and explosive AT are observed in the parameter space for both the noise free and the stochastic networks. The effects of noise on AT are investigated and are found to play a constructive role in mitigating the effects of inactive neurons and reducing the parameter regime in which explosive AT is observed.

Gupta and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were performed to investigate of structural and magnetic behaviors of 19 atom FenRh[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]–19) nanoalloys. A double icosahedron structure was considered for FenRh[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]–19) nanoalloys. Significantly, the effects of Fe atom addition on the chemical ordering, stability and total magnetic moments of the nanoalloys were investigated. Local optimization results at the Gupta level show that the Fe atoms are located in the center of the double icosahedron structure and finally in the equatorial region on the surface. The mixing energy analysis obtained that Fe[Formula: see text]Rh7 and Fe4Rh[Formula: see text] nanoalloys are the most stable compositions at Gupta and DFT levels, respectively. It was found that FenRh[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]–19) nanoalloys are energetically suitable for mixing at both Gupta and DFT levels. Also, the bond order parameter result is compatible with the mixing energy analysis result. The total magnetic moments of the FenRh[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]–19) nanoalloys increase with the addition of the Fe atom, which is a ferromagnetic metal.

We review some recent developments about strongly interacting relativistic Fermi theories in three spacetime dimensions. These models realize the asymptotic safety scenario and are used to describe the low-energy properties of Dirac materials in condensed matter physics. We begin with a general discussion of the symmetries of multi-flavor Fermi systems in arbitrary dimensions. Then we review known results about the critical flavor number $N_\mathrm{crit}$ of Thirring models in three dimensions. Only models with flavor number below $N_\mathrm{crit}$ show a phase transition from a symmetry-broken strong-coupling phase to a symmetric weak-coupling phase. Recent simulations with chiral fermions show that $N_\mathrm{crit}$ is smaller than previously extracted with various non-perturbative methods. Our simulations with chiral SLAC fermions reveal that for four-component flavors $N_\mathrm{crit}=0.80(4)$. This means that all reducible Thirring models with $\Nr=1,2,3,\dots$ show no phase transition with order parameter. Instead we discover footprints of phase transitions without order parameter. These new transitions are probably smooth and could be used to relate the lattice Thirring models to Thirring models in the continuum. For a single irreducible flavor, we provide previously unpublished values for the critical couplings and critical exponents.

The conditions for the appearance in systems with defects of the "random local field" and "random local anisotropy" type of the Imry-Ma phases, in which the direction of the order parameter follows large-scale fluctuations of a random field or random anisotropy, are considered. It is shown that the anisotropy of the distribution of random fields of defects in the space of the order parameter can lead to the appearance of the long-range order. An attention is paid to phase diagrams arising as a result of competition between random fields of defects and anisotropy induced by defects. By the example of a system with random anisotropy (nanocrystalline ferromagnet), the dependences of the coercive field on the crystallite size are considered.

The evolution of a heavy ion collision passes close to the O(4) critical point of QCD, where fluctuations of the order parameter are expected to be enhanced. Using the appropriate stochastic hydrodynamic equations in mean field near the the pseudo-critical point, we compute how these enhanced fluctuations modify the transport coefficients of QCD. Finally, we estimate the expected critical enhancement of soft pion yields, which provides a plausible explanation for the excess seen in experiment relative to ordinary hydrodynamic computations.
