Purpose/Thesis: The article presents the concept of university course in digital humanities for future information professionals. Approach/Methods: The concept of university course in digital humanities draws on the author’s deep knowledge of digital humanities as well as the particular models of research project lifecycle. The concept consists of three elements: the description of educational aims, the graduate’s profile, and the learning outcomes. Results and conclusions: The author proposes that university course in digital humanities should be provided as a part of specialization within a Master program for information professionals. Classes will give students a basic knowledge of a given discipline in the humanities and the theoretical aspects of digital humanities, as well as its structure and history. Students will also learn about information and knowledge organization, digital sources used in humanities, information systems, digital collections, research data management, and scholarly editions. Graduates would be equipped to work at research institutions running digital humanities projects or providing research infrastructure for digital humanists, e.g. academic libraries, museums, archives, digital humanities centers and laboratories. Practical implications: The concept may be used to prepare a detailed program of specialization by faculties offering information science programs. Although the concept has been developed in the context of Polish higher education, it can be modified and adapted successfully in other countries, especially in the EU countries which, like Poland, need to meet the European Qualifications Framework. Originality/Value: Formal university course in digital humanities for information professionals is not very common. The concept of a specialization within a Master program proposed in this article fills this gap so that a new generation of librarians and other information professionals will become more proficient intermediaries between humanists and information.

The collected data have shown gradual increase of internationalisation process indicators and allowed concluding that the introduction and support of lean management principles in higher education promotes the intensification of the internationalisation process.

In Poland, Englishization is subsumed under the concept of internationalization, which is considered a nationwide tendency of the development of the higher education sector. It is highly recommended to use English as a lingua franca of research and scientific communication, and it is common to implement programmes using English as a medium of instruction (EMI). Therefore, one of the key aspects discussed in this paper concerns the equalization of the status of Polish and English as languages of instruction. Other ‘tangible’ exponents of this English-Polish ‘alliance’ are to be seen in the area of job competition procedures, which have to be stated in both Polish and English. Emphasis is also placed on the development of English versions of university websites.

The study is focused on translation technology within the system of higher education in Poland, specifically English Studies offering translation specialization at BA and MA level, as well as postgraduate studies aimed at translators of English. The conducted analysis of translation curricula of Polish universities investigates the presence of courses devoted to the use of translation technology and seeks to determine whether such courses are offered at a given level of higher education, where in the system most of the courses are placed, and when they are mostly organized. First, however, a brief overview of different aspects determining the inclusion of translation technology in curricula are discussed. Here, the main stress is placed on its importance for the translation markets, the skills and knowledge obtained by students entering the market which are desired by translation agencies, elements affecting the selection of given translation software, the necessary infrastructure to run such courses, the costs of the programmes, ‘human resources’, the policies of universities, etc. The short discussion is followed by an analysis of the available courses, with each section devoted to one of the levels of the Polish higher education system, namely BA, MA and postgraduate studies. The courses within each level are briefly compared to provide some general tendencies for each type of studies. The final, concluding part of the study summarizes the results and stresses the need for further introduction of translation technology into translation curricula.

Abstract Research background: Total Quality Management – TQM consists in managing an organization in which the continuous striving for quality based on the Deming Cycle is an important assumption. Even though the ‘product’, in reference to higher education, is not the same as in reference to industry, higher education can be improved in terms of quality and the manner of conducting classes, and administrative work by applying the TQM methods. Purpose: The main purpose of the research conducted at the University of Lodz was to identify and compare the determinants affecting the opinion of the students and lecturers on the assessment of the possibilities and effectiveness of introduction of the CQI methods in the Polish higher education. Research methodology: Multivariate statistical methods – cluster analysis were used for the analysis and cross tabulations. Results: Students and lecturers of the University of Lodz positively evaluated the CQI methods. The research shows most of the assumptions of the CQI concept can be adapted to the conditions of work at Polish universities; 68.92% of respondents stated that the CQI methods may be perceived as a concept of improvement of the quality of a university institution; 89.86% of respondents believe that the CQI methods are appropriate on the concept of the improvement of the quality of given classes/lectures. Novelty: The value of this paper is a contribution to the debate on needs and improving the quality of education at Polish universities.

The contemporary socioeconomic reality poses a number of new and difficult challenges for higher education. In this context, it is vital that a perfect fiscal and legal environment be created. A significant role is also played by local taxes on real property held by higher education institutions. On the one hand, it is commonly argued that a well-developed infrastructure facilitating modern forms of education and innovative research is a direct measure of a university’s development. On the other, one must not overlook the increase in fiscal obligations related to the same. This paper analyses the problems of legal cohesion in terms of the provisions of tax law, Commercial Law, and the system of higher education. With due reference to the scarce available literature, case law and decisions of fiscal authorities, the study provides a comprehensive analysis and verification of the structure of property tax exemptions applicable in this context. Given the legal character of said exemptions and ratio legis, the paper presents practical difficulties pertinent to the application of such legal instruments, flaws in their normative construction, and interpretative discrepancies – to arrive at specific conclusions and evaluations.
