In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this article reflects on the work of the Christian counselor through an eschatological lens, specifically exploring the notion of what it means to counsel in the “already, not yet.” The counseling process is presented as a place in which the dialectics of this eschatological tension are present and outworked. Pain and suffering are encountered and explored as the counselor stands in solidarity with the sufferer, and yet the Christian counselor also anticipates hope and the power of change in the present, particularly as ushered in by the eschatological Spirit of God. To this end, the author explores three practices, as undertaken by the counselor, that demonstrate a sensitivity and ability to minister effectively in the tension of the already, not yet—companioning, lament, and re-storying.

Abstract Counseling is an essential strategy for preventing sexually transmitted infections, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, research on counseling practices in targeted HIV prevention interventions is limited. We conducted a grounded theory study to develop a theoretical model explaining HIV counseling practices within Targeted Interventions (TI) in Gujarat. Using constructivist grounded theory methodology, we conducted in-depth interviews of 14 counselors and observed counseling sessions of five counselors. Data were analyzed using a constant-comparative method, performing four levels of coding: open, axial, focused, and theoretical. Our theoretical model illustrates key culture-specific features in HIV counseling and how counselors facilitate the counseling process in the local cultural context and programatic environment. Present study reveals the values and practices reflective of the Indian culture that inform the counseling process and yield behavior change in clients. In the end, authors highlight challenges and recommendations for HIV counselors.

During in COVID-19 pandemic, counselors switched the face-to-face counseling process to online counseling or in terms of guidance and counseling, namely cyber counseling. The application of cyber counseling services can be the right solution when psychological problems require immediate resolution. This cyber counseling service can also be applied by education counselors. This research was conducted to determine the application of cyber counseling during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the counseling process and media used by counselors. The method used in this research a literature study. The results show that the cyber counseling process is almost the same as the face-to-face counseling process, but several things need to be considered, such as the preparation stage which includes the availability of supporting and adequate hardware and software. Furthermore, the media used by cyber counseling can be in the form of applications, websites, telephones, chat what apps and video conferencing, and other social media. The advantages of cyber counseling can be accessed anywhere and in an adjustable time, the counselor can reach a wider range of counselees. Counselees and counselors can carry out the counseling process when and where by mutual agreement, although in the counseling process it is sometimes without signs and physical the counselee is easier to express thoughts and feelings. The weakness is that the diagnosis is less accurate and the intervention is less effective because the instructions and directions are given are less specific and non-verbal information becomes difficult to provide. There has been a recent rise in online counseling applications in response to the increased need for counseling during this pandemic. Unfortunately, the concept of online counseling apps in Indonesia is still premature because the apps just connect counselee and counselor via chat or call. These apps cannot monitor the self-development tasks that the counselors gives to the counselee, even though this is a requirement of the counseling process. The researchers in this study used M. Asimov’s model to design a new mobile app. The features to monitor self-development tasks divide into yearly, monthly and weekly planning. The information system categorizes into time and fourth quadrants of time. It is hoped that the counselee can use this to manage their activities based on the importance level to help achieve their goals. Keywords: Mobile apps, online counseling, self-development tasks monitoring, four quadrants of time
