In this study, based on the bottom-up spillover theory, the effects of living area satisfaction such as housing, public transportation access, access to medical institutions, access to cultural facilities and natural environments, and access to public institutions on life satisfaction were analyzed. For the analysis, raw data of the “Regional Resident Needs Survey for Establishment of the 4th Local Social Security Plan” conducted in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do in 2018 was used. After allocating ‘eup’ and ‘myeon’ for the survey, a researcher visited the area and conducted a direct visit. And in the final analysis, the data of 195 people were analyzed using SPSS version 23.0. Logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze factors affecting life satisfaction. Based on the research results, practical and policy suggestions were presented to improve the satisfaction of life for the elderly in the island area.

The present study assessed spatial variations in several biological characteristics of Scorpaena porcus Linnaeus, 1758 and estimated length structure, dietary composition and growth parameters for the species. Sampling was carried out in two areas, about 200 km apart, in the coastal Adriatic Sea, which is the northernmost region of the Mediterranean. A total of 388 specimens of S. porcus were caught, 233 from the Split area and 155 from the Pag Island area, and a higher proportion of individuals in the ≤15 cm length classes were found in the Split area. The results of the age, growth and diet analyses demonstrated that the black scorpionfish is a slow-growing and long-lived species that feeds on a wide variety of plant and animal taxa and shows a high selectivity for crustacean decapods. Detailed comparisons and multivariate analyses showed significant fine-scale spatial structuring of the investigated species, as observed length, dietary and age compositions were heterogeneous among the two areas. Fish from the Pag Island area ingested a greater diversity of the prey types, fed to a greater extent on fishes, reached the highest total length and showed a higher growth rate. Such intraspecific variations could reflect adaptations to different environmental conditions and support the geographical scale at which local black scorpionfish populations should be managed.

According to the characteristics of physical geography and hydrogeology in Pingtan Island area, an independent regional groundwater evaluation system is established according to the four-layer model structure of target layer, criterion layer, attribute layer and index layer in the system. AHP (Analytic hierarchy process) is used to determine the weight value of each index in the study area, and a set of groundwater function evaluation system suitable for the island area is established. A groundwater function evaluation model with high systematic order degree is constructed and applied to the groundwater function evaluation of Pingtan Island. The results show that the groundwater in Luyangpu plain, Longwangtoupu plain, Lianjiupu plain and Qilipu plain can be developed and utilized well; The function of groundwater in the south of Aozhen and the foot of Junshan mountain is general, so we need to pay attention to the protection of ecological environment; The comprehensive function of groundwater in reclamation area, Huoshaogang salt area and Tianzhuyukou seawater intrusion area is weak, which is not suitable for exploitation and utilization. The research results are suitable for the evaluation of groundwater function in independent small areas of islands, and can provide technical support for the sustainable utilization of groundwater resources in similar islands.

The Urban Heat Island (UHI) concept is one of the most serious ecological and social challenges of the urbanisation. As a result of these events, several man-made urban areas have displaced the rural areas with increased thermal conductivity surfaces, resulting in higher temperatures in the urban areas. Thus, this paper analyses the variations in Land Surface Temperature (LST) and the heat island area using Landsat 8 data and NPP VIIRS night-time light data. The data sources during 2013-2015 of Zhengzhou city, China, are selected to be a case study in this research work. According to the research, the economic centre of Zhengzhou city is shifting eastward, and the mean centre of urban area acquired from NPP VIIRS night-light data is extremely similar to the heat island area derived from Landsat 8 data. Also, the heat island areas obtained from the NPP VIIRS night-light data, and the yearbook data of Zhengzhou Bureau of Statistics are comparable with the accuracies of 96-99%. Hence, our proposed procedure can be implemented practically to point out the urban areas, to identify the UHI areas with high accuracies in other regions and also can be used to indicate how large the UHI effects on the urban area with increased population and industries.

We compiled a list of the ground beetles that have been confirmed to occur to date in the southern Kuril Islands, Russian Far East. The list includes 168 species, all of which are known from Kunashir Island and the species richness on the remaining islands ranges from 68 (Shikotan Island) to 21 species (Tanfil'eva Island). The species richness is shown to depend sublinearly on island area, this being unusual for island faunas (Triantis et al. 2011). A large part of data is published here for the first time on the records of ground beetles in the southern Kuril Islands with precise localities. This allows not only the taxonomic composition of the faunas, but also the composition of local faunas to be discussed.

The study to calculate the water quality index was conducted in the Gulf of Tonkin at the surface water in August 2018. The calculation results showed that out of 48 surveyed points, there was 1 point in the Northeast area at poor water quality, 15 points in the Northeast and coastal areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue at medium water quality, 14 points in the Gulf of Tonkin, Northeast and Con Co Island at good water quality, the remaining 18 points in the Gulf of Tonkin and Bach Long Vi Island at excellent water quality. Overall, the average water quality of the whole region was good (average WQI = 79). Considering each area, the Gulf of Tonkin area had good and excellent water quality, the Northeast had water quality from poor to good level, the coastal areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue had medium water quality, Con Co Island area had good water quality, Bach Long Vi Island area had excellent water quality.
