This study explored the move-step structure of the Results and Discussion (R&D) section of electronic engineering research articles (EERAs) written by Chinese and Thai researchers. Two corpora, with each containing 12 R&D sections, were compiled for analysis with reference to the three frameworks of Kanoksilapatham (2005, 2015) and Maswana et al. (2015). In addition, variations in terms of move-step structure between the two corpora were examined. Findings firstly demonstrated a newly proposed framework of 3 moves and 12 steps. What’s more, all of the three moves were found obligatory, and the variations between the two corpora mainly existed in the steps under each move category. Findings of the present study could provide insights into EERA construction for novice writers. Moreover, generic variations that are acceptable within the discipline might expand RA genre knowledge for both EE researchers and genre practitioners.

The step structure on the (0001¯)C facet of 4H-SiC boules grown by the physical vapor transport growth method with different nitrogen doping concentrations was examined in various scales, using different types of microscopy, such as differential interference contrast optical microscopy (DICM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). DICM observations unveiled characteristic macroscopic surface features of the facet dependent on the nitrogen doping concentration. AFM observations revealed the existence of step trains of half unit-cell height (0.5 nm) on the facet and found that their separation was undulated with a characteristic wavelength dependent on the nitrogen doping concentration; the higher the nitrogen concentration, the longer was the undulation wavelength of step separation. Based on these results, we discussed the origin and formation mechanism of the separation-undulated step structure observed on the (0001¯)C facet of nitrogen-doped 4H-SiC boules.

The article outlines the problem of combining professional and personal qualities in the choir conductor. Research gaps in the profession of choir conductor are outlined. We established that the art of conducting, and choral performance as its component, currently requires professionally trained personnel, who have an active life position and are able to provide a creative approach to choral singing. It was found that conducting should be interpreted as a creative process characterized by a step-by-step structure and a combination of analysis and comprehension of the choral score, its artistic interpretation, which allows embodying the formed musical image in the real choral sound. It was found that the conductor’s professional qualities are based on the conductor’s individual style or his “creative method”. It is established that the emotional sphere of the conductor is the result of a combination of qualities that will allow the conductor and the choir to demonstrate a bright and convincing revelation of the originality of texture, expressive timbre colors of numerous choral scores, and a rich palette of nuances.

Writing is a challenging and demanding skill for EFL learners in Vietnam. Teaching writing skills at Vietnamese universities is problematic since different approaches to writing have not been implemented effectively. Mainly, a genre-based approach to writing has not yet been implemented in EFL writing classrooms successfully. This paper investigates how the genre-based writing approach has been taught and learned at Van Lang University. The study mentions some critical notions of systemic functional linguistics, genre-based writing approach, and the importance and effects of genre-based approach to writing. 128 students turned in their midterm essays in week 5 of the 10-week writing course. These 128 expository essays were analyzed and synthesized using Microsoft Excel to calculate the differences in move-step structure. The findings indicated that the students had difficulty following the fixed move-step structure, and they also faced challenges of lexico-grammatical usage for the expository. Hence, the study suggests some implications for applying a genre-based approach to writing for EFL teachers and students and suggests further research.
