Corruption, often described as all that is rotten in the modern society, has become an increasingly dominant theme in contemporary political discourse, one that is related to specific practices, concepts and evaluations that vary across regions, cultures, spheres of action and disciplines. This volume, through case studies, investigates corruption in the Global South (especially India and Brazil) and West (especially Switzerland) to gain a more nuanced view of the phenomenon. The chapters in this volume are organized into two loosely structured and overlapping parts: the first part consisting of Chapters 2¬¬–5 covers conceptual questions related to corruption discourses from different perspectives such as economic ethics, social capital theory and literature; the second part consisting of Chapters 6–11 details the complexity and diversity of corruption practices within and between countries and regions, providing different interpretative frameworks, which in turn flow into discourses on corruption. Kalpana Kannabiran is an Independent Sociologist and Lawyer, Hyderabad, India. Bettina Hollstein is Managing Director, Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, University of Erfurt, Germany. Florian F. Hoffmann is a Professor of Law, Department of Law, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has ravaged the world, has led to a rethinking of the relationship between humans and nature and the clichés of the economic-centered model. Thus, the ecological economy has been reviewed, especially from an ethical worldview. This paper uses statistical methods to retrieve and categorize 3,646 wildlife crime cases for analysis and quantitative research. It adopts legal and ethical perspectives to analyze the subject and the subjective, incidence, and sentencing factors of wildlife crimes and uses the ecological economic ethical model to measure wildlife crimes. We argue that the existing judicial system fails to answer the difficulties of the economic ethics of wildlife crimes. It is recommended that ecological and economic ethical awareness be internalized. We suggest calling for comprehensive legislation on wildlife crimes from the perspective of ecological economic ethics to effectively prevent and reduce wildlife crime and eventually promote public health.

Various kinds of interpretations of usury and interest in modern financial institutions (banks), both from jurists and Muslim economists, seem to occur because the 'illat usury put forward by the jurists is seen as inaccurate in the development of Islamic legal thought. Gharar which is translated as speculation is equated with gambling because of the uncertainty for the parties (seller and buyer). This research uses a literature study, which is carried out by collecting, studying and reviewing books, scientific magazines and related documents such as theses and scientific journals. Many modern societies carry out such practices, such as buying and selling agricultural products that are still on the land with a wholesale system. When viewed from the ethical side of Islamic transactions, both usury, interest and gharar violate the ethics of transactions. Ethical considerations prohibiting usury, interest and gharar, due to unfairness, exploitation and unproductiveness. While the system of economic ethics emphasizes products, fairness and honesty in trade, and fair competition. In this case, good ethics will give good business, good ethics: good business. Ethics that is in the spotlight in this study, especially ethics in the operations and transactions of Islamic financial institutions. Then the sharia financial institutions in question include sharia banking, sharia pawnshops, sharia insurance, and sharia capital markets, all of which are some forms of representation of sharia macro financial institutions that are certain. have a significant impact on the nation's economic development. So that behavior that is not in accordance with Islamic ethics, such as related to usury and bank interest, must be avoided for Muslims.

Islamic economics has existed since the start of Islamic civilization. However, Islamic economic thoughts established by Indonesian scholars are limited. This exploratory research was carried out to determine the spiritual values of Islamic economics on Hamka's works entitled Tasawuf Modern. Primary and secondary data were collected from Hamka's works entitled Tasawuf Modern and from several papers or books that are relevant to the focus of the research. The data collected were analyzed by combining topics relevant to Islamic economics in modern Sufism and other secondary sources. Content analysis was used for data analysis. The results of this study revealed that, according to Hamka, the richest people are those that need the least. The true wealth lies in the contentment of the soul (qana'ah). Good wealth represents virtue and prohibiton for extravagancy and excessive consumerism. Further, humans need to be in between to carry out good deeds. The results of this study contribute to enriching the discourse of Islamic economic thought, especially in Islamic economic ethics and the role of ethics in business.
