The focus of this study was to assess the influence of green recruitment and selection on the sustainability of selected tea factories in Kericho Highlands region, Kenya. The study was anchored on human capital theory. It adopted a correlational research design, with a targeted population of 915 respondents drawn from tea factories in the Kericho highlands region. A sample size of 278 respondents was determined scientifically using the Yamane taro formula. Primary data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The validity of the research was checked together with the supervisors and subject experts, while instrument reliability was determined through Cronbach's alpha coefficient, where a coefficient of 0.7987 was obtained. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis was used to analyse data. The findings established a significant positive relationship between green recruitment and selection and the sustainability of the tea factories. The study concluded that green recruitment and selection influenced the sustainability of the factories.

The purpose of this study was to examine the contribution of secondary education towards economic growth in Ngara District. The study was guided by three research objectives which are; to identify the contribution of the education achieved in secondary school graduates on economic growth, to assess the relationship between secondary school education and economic growth and the last one was to analyze the challenges that face secondary education leavers in the job market. The study was guided by Human Capital Theory which was developed by Schult and Becker .The research used mixed approach technique which entails qualitative and quantitative. In qualitative, the study analyzed the findings by looking at the physical trends while quantitative, the findings were analyzed using measurements in terms of inferential statistics. From the findings, the results reveal that there is a direct connectivity between school education and practical implementation of the knowledge gained in classrooms. Moreover, the findings established that there is low contribution in education achieved in secondary-by-secondary school leavers which cannot cater for their economic income. The study recommends that the government should device friendly curriculum which is environment friendly. This will help secondary school leavers to translate their education into economic growth activities. Moreover, the secondary school leavers are advised to link what they gained in their course of schooling in order to avoid depending much on their guardians and parents.

PurposeDrawing on social capital theory, we extend the concept of supply chain capital to examine whether structural and relational capital can strengthen the complementary capabilities of suppliers and enhance their performance.Design/methodology/approachThe empirical study was conducted on 161 precision mold equipment suppliers. To evaluate the mediated moderation model of supply chain capital, we applied multiple linear regression to test our hypotheses.FindingsWe found that both structural and relational capital positively affect the complementary capabilities of suppliers and that these capabilities mediate the relationship between supply chain capital and supplier performance. Furthermore, structural capital positively and significantly moderates the mediating effect on the relationship between complementary capabilities and supplier performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis study provides suggestions for suppliers that are equipped with sufficient structural and relational capital to effectively enhance their complementary capabilities. By considering the interaction between structural capital and complementary capabilities, suppliers can effectively improve their performance.Originality/valueThis novel research develops a theoretical model to examine the antecedents and consequences of supplier complementary capabilities. We contribute to a new line of research on supply chain capital, which aims to explore how it affects the complementary capabilities of suppliers by examining a practical supply chain activity setting.

This research project examined the social barriers to gender equalities in rural Chinese educational contexts in order to identify impediments to educational advancement and, thus, career mobility and poverty reduction, especially for rural girls in the long-term. The research questions of this study were as follows: In what ways and to what extent do different social factors influence the gender gaps among rural Chinese students' academic outcomes? The examined barriers were (1) gender, (2) parental educational attainment, (3) opportunities to practise Mandarin at home, (4) social welfare entitlement, (5) adequacy of educational facilities, and (6) transport accessibility. Human capital theory and dependency theory were used to develop the conceptual framework. Low paternal and particularly maternal education are associated with the widening rural Chinese cohorts' gender gaps in educational attainment; the magnitudes of the found associations are moderate.

Corruption, often described as all that is rotten in the modern society, has become an increasingly dominant theme in contemporary political discourse, one that is related to specific practices, concepts and evaluations that vary across regions, cultures, spheres of action and disciplines. This volume, through case studies, investigates corruption in the Global South (especially India and Brazil) and West (especially Switzerland) to gain a more nuanced view of the phenomenon. The chapters in this volume are organized into two loosely structured and overlapping parts: the first part consisting of Chapters 2¬¬–5 covers conceptual questions related to corruption discourses from different perspectives such as economic ethics, social capital theory and literature; the second part consisting of Chapters 6–11 details the complexity and diversity of corruption practices within and between countries and regions, providing different interpretative frameworks, which in turn flow into discourses on corruption. The article considers the most important achievements of the human capital theory. Taking into account the theory’s versatility and ambiguity of approaches to its main theses, advisability of a systemic view on its evolution and role in modern science is indicated. The 60th anniversary of the official birth of the theory in 1962 was taken as a special reason for rethinking its achievements. There are given the main scientific human capital theory’s results, which expanded, deepened and supplemented the scientific knowledge over the period from the end XX century until the beginning of the XXI century. Among the results are the increasing importance of investments in human development, development of economic growth theories, classification and systematization of human productive qualities, development of interdisciplinary researches of human being and human capital, accumulation of empirical researches’ data bases, optimization of investment policies in different countries and regions, actualization of studying trends and problems in the field of science and education, development of futuristic ideas, extension of labor market researches, improvement of the personnel management theory and methodology. It has been emphasized that the existence of modern approaches to human capital development does not mean their widespread implementation in practice: an objective reality imposed by many factors does not always contribute to the effective use of individuals’ productive qualities. For Russia there are singled out the following factors: the economy’s structural problems, imbalances in supply and demand in the labor market, discrepancy between available human capital and quality of jobs, and some other factors that can neutralize positive effects of the human capital development.

PurposeBased on the principles of the human capital theory, this study investigates the role of the quality management system (QMS) in higher education institutions (HEIs) in developing successful employability attributes among graduates. Considering industry as a prominent stakeholder in academia, the authors took industry–academia collaboration as the mediating variable.Design/methodology/approachUsing the European Foundation for Quality Management model, the author analyzed how QMS in public HEIs located in London, the United Kingdom (UK), impacts business management, computer science and engineering students' employability. Following the nonprobability convenience sampling technique, this study included data from 324 local and international students.FindingsThe structural analysis identified QMS as a significant factor in enhancing students' employability, and industry–academia collaboration is found to act as a partial mediator in this relationship.Originality/valueThe management of HEIs in developing countries can take valuable guidelines from this study and integrate QMS in their institutions in developing their students' employability, as it is being done by HEIs in the UK.
